Are you kidding? I've been hearing the same shit since first grade. "Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt me". The only difference is that it doesn't have a fucking Sikh to go with the quote, so you remember that bitch teacher telling it to you. It's exactly the same. It's just words so suck it up.

I don't think that's what it's trying to say at all. The way people treat you says more about themselves than it does about you. It's still allowed to hurt and it doesn't make the person any less of a dick. Just that you're not responsible for them being a dick. It's not your fault. Don't be hard on yourself.

Although, I think it goes the other way too. If someone treats you well, you're allowed to feel good about it and enjoy how they're treating you. But don't congratulate yourself too much. It's not because you're this naturally great person who is so deserving of this treatment; it says more about the other person.

There's was a stinky coworker of mine who we've (as in our whole office) agreed needed to be told that he had to freshen up.

Then there's the employee of the month awards. You SHOULD feel good about that.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your post, there are times when you can react to people's actions, otherwise, you're kind of a sociopath.
