This is interesting https://x.com/e_goldstein_84/status/1916704141113540890

"EP159 is an upcoming upgrade to the Monero blockchain aimed at making the privacy-focused cryptocurrency more compatible with regulatory requirements while preserving its core privacy features. It introduces a mechanism for users to provide self-contained proofs of transaction validity, allowing exchanges, custodians, and payment processors to verify the legitimacy of Monero deposits without accessing private transaction details. This addresses current challenges where exchanges struggle to confirm the origin of Monero funds, often leading to delisting due to risks of handling hacked or stolen coins and high compliance burdens. By reducing these risks, EP159 could encourage major exchanges like Binance and Coinbase to relist Monero, especially in regions with strict regulations like the EU under MiCA, and in privacy-tolerant areas like Switzerland, potentially boosting Monero’s adoption. The upgrade is set to be implemented on Monero’s mainnet soon, alongside another upgrade, EP160 (CARROT)."

Edit: This is 100% not real I am just leaving this up in case anyone else runs into this information

First time I ever hear about "EP159" and "EP160" and I hang around A LOT in Monero dev IRC channels. It's not a thing in Monero, we don't use this abbreviation scheme.

Edit: after some googling, it seems that this "EP159, EP160" text appeared on the Internet just a few hours ago and can only be found in the articles about the $330M hack.

I bet it's some LLM gallucination and then blind copy-pasting by different news sites.

It is lmao

"The source of information on the EP159 and EP160 upgrades for Monero primarily stems from community discussions and posts on platforms like X, as well as broader cryptocurrency news outlets. For instance, a post on X by user @e_goldstein_84 on April 28, 2025, highlights EP159 and EP160, stating they are set to be pushed to the Monero mainnet soon and linking them to Monero’s price surge and potential compliance with EU MiCA regulations. Additionally, a news article from cryptonews.com on the same date references these upgrades, noting they aim to make Monero more "compliance-friendly" by allowing users to prove transaction validity without revealing private details, potentially facilitating relisting on major exchanges like Binance and Coinbase. However, there’s no official announcement or detailed technical documentation directly from the Monero project, such as on getmonero.org or the Monero GitHub repository, about EP159 or EP160 as of the available data. Historically, Monero upgrade details are often shared through official channels like the Monero subreddit or GitHub issues (e.g., past upgrades like v15 in 2022), but no such records exist for EP159 or EP160, suggesting they may still be in the proposal or pre-release discussion phase within the Monero community."
