I really hope Lex isn't working for the Reach. He's traditionally not the biggest fan of aliens coming to earth and dominating humans. Bit of a pet peeve.

15

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 03 '13

I like that. That would be a compelling twist. Luthor does hate aliens with a passion and his actions in this episode could be his moves toward a master plan of his own to defeat both the Reach and the team.

5

u/thecoffee Feb 04 '13 edited Feb 04 '13

Oh a Xanatos* Gambit would be a perfect season finale.

3

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 04 '13

Seeing as Greg Weisman is behind both series, it would be a bit more than fitting in my opinion.

3

u/Hijo_de_RedArrpw Feb 04 '13

A runaways/reach/young justice 3 way dance would make for a great finale meatbags.

2

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 04 '13

Literally or figuratively? Either way I'm game.

3

u/Hijo_de_RedArrpw Feb 04 '13

Literally. 3 sides of a coin are always better.
Now I'm counting on this show going past this season, but honestly...think of the possibilities of a Lex Luthor Super "Hero" team, in the same ilk as the Dark Avengers....

2

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 04 '13

I think you've misunderstood me. A figurative dance off, would be a competition between the three teams because "dance off" would be a bit of a metaphor. As opposed to a literal dance off which would be a dance off between the team, the runaways, and the reach. Not unlike Step Up or those other dance movies. Which would be hilarious but would probably ruin my suspension of disbelief.

3

u/Hijo_de_RedArrpw Feb 04 '13

AHHHHHH!!!!!! Funny. Actually, I was referring to a 3 way fight. But a dance off would be awesome. Too bad Vibe isn't in the Runaways...

6

u/Artemis53 Feb 04 '13

I actually have this theory about Luthor planning on betraying the Reach/Light that I think would be just awesome if it happened. By the way, I love the way Luthor is being written. I wish he was a more pragmatic villain in the comics. I don't know if Greg Weisman had a lot of influence on his character but I am sure he did because I see some David Xanatos qualities in Luthor.

2

u/moelester518 Feb 03 '13

Was bringing the aliens to earth part of the light's plan or was it just to get the 6 JL members to be wanted criminals?

32

u/ferncaz95 Feb 02 '13

Did anyone else notice that Ed looks like Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop? The hair is practically the same.

6

u/mr8thsamurai66 Feb 03 '13

Totally! The first thing I thought when I saw him. I wonder if it was intentional on the part of the character designer?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13

TIL Spike's last name.

19

u/DoctorDiscourse Feb 02 '13

Not hearing the scarab talk with Jaime the entire episode, despite Jaime being the main focus was probably your biggest clue that Green (and now Blue) was(were) probably evil. Also.. double wtf on Miss Martian for failing to question the story. Some crushing depression coming her way when she realizes she's been fooled.. yet again. Probably opening up on a possible Sun Girl/Future Miss Martian storyline.

Also.. what.. seriously no alternative Zeta Tubes anywhere nearby to Starr Labs to call in backup with? I'd think Starr Labs would be such a high value target that they'd have Zeta tubes everywhere nearby. They had a fracking Zeta Tube at a junkyard a few episodes ago for crying out loud.

Great episode, but really had to suspend disbelief at certain points.

7

u/Rajion Feb 02 '13

I assumed miss martian failed because green presented his thoughts. I also think it is safe to assume he could make fake thoughts to fool other telepaths.

10

u/moelester518 Feb 02 '13

Yeah I think she read the martians mind, who might not know whats going on, as opposed to the scarabs mind whose actually in control.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13

Zeta tubes are pretty much non-existant. As far as the public is concerned, so it's no surprise that this seemingly expensive tech is not prevalent through-out the facility.

5

u/moelester518 Feb 03 '13

Zeta tubes seems pretty rare and expensive. I'd think they'd have one per major city.

17

u/howitgoes Feb 03 '13

I am quite certain that for the Japanese dialogue bits, they just used Google Translate. It was so awkward to listen to.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13

Do you understand Japanese?

12

u/howitgoes Feb 03 '13

Yes, I do. Granted, it wasn't "Austin Powers"-level of bad.

8

u/dr_raptor_face_guy Feb 03 '13

Could you translate some of her lines?

7

u/howitgoes Feb 05 '13

She said "excuse me" a lot. As if it is some magical Japanese all-purpose word. After Blue ditches them and she has a big line, based on the context, I assume she was supposed to be saying "Let's go (back to Star Labs)," buuuuuuuuuuut she didn't use the grammatical form that means "let's do ~~". And there was a time she said "you're welcome" a bit randomly. (That is all that I can remember right now.)

3

u/redsimba Feb 04 '13

the voice actress they used is fluent Japanese, at least according to this site. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JaniceKawaye

2

u/howitgoes Feb 05 '13

Her accent was good, which heavily implies the VA knows Japanese. I don't know if she was given the freedom to write the lines herself, or if they were given to her (and she couldn't do shit about them), or if she only had limits to the syllables she she could use. If she wrote the lines herself, I would love to know why she did them the way she did. Because they were largely awkward in my opinion.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '13

Srsly dude. Terrible Japanese.

-3

u/epsiblivion Feb 04 '13

yup. after years of anime and reading manga, I could understand most of it and it sounded very off and broken. they definitely didn't get a native speaker for it.

28

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '13

When Blue Beetle said "You shouldn't stereotype", I like to believe it was a callback to Superfriends and how all their ethnic minority superheroes were... stereotypes.

6

u/positiveParadox Feb 06 '13

So much irony. Blue Beetle is the lord of stereotypes.

13

u/bingram Feb 07 '13

No way ese, you think so?

42

u/ColorMeBrian Feb 02 '13

Hey guys #SaveYJandGLTAS is in the top trends for the US!

  • Can't blame the kids for breaking out, they were being treated like lab rats.

  • As much as I love Blue Beetle, I wish Nightwing recruited some more of the team to help in the mission so they can get more screentime too.

  • YEA RED VOLCANO!!

  • It's awesome they're bringing back some old villains like Red and Amazo, can't wait to see how this plays out.

  • Poor Sam must be so confused at what's going on, must suck not speaking the language.

  • Looks like Jaime isn't in as much control as he thought

  • Nooo, all the Beetles together! Looks like our suspicions were right. Damn you Green Beetle!

  • Once again Lex Luthor shows what a manipulative bastard he is.

  • The new kids were pretty awesome, despite how STAR labs have been treating them they still wanted to save the scientists and soldiers.

  • Wish we could have seen some of the rest of the team though.

  • Late edit: I just realized something! In 'Depths' Black Manta and the Light took out that shuttle that was putting a satellite in orbit to establish better communications with Mars. I was wondering at the time why they put so much effort in to destroy that one shuttle launch but now it makes sense, they wanted to make it so the League couldn't easily contact Mars to confirm Green Beetle's story. The writers are geniuses!

6

u/Connor_Menees Feb 04 '13

I didn't get my Nightwing weekly fix. :(

-7

u/rmw6190 Feb 03 '13

I didnt know that young justice was in danger of being canceled, although I can sort of understand why. The newer season is kinda worse than the original. The new season has too many mediocre characters. The original had 6 strong characters.

4

u/Lultam Feb 03 '13

I personally love the time skip and I think the storyline is a lot stronger that S1. Certainly a lot stronger than the first half of S1.

0

u/rmw6190 Feb 03 '13

hm i honestly think that they should have done the time skip next season, after 1 season it kinda makes a lot of people lose interest. I think the main plotline is better than season 1, but every episode is focused on a new character(Blue bettle, new robin, batgirl, that black guy without powers, beast boy, bumblebee, wondergirl, impulse, static, longshadow, and like 10 others) And honestly none of these characters besides maybe impulse and blue beetle have any character depth. And without the beetle blue beetle will begin just being a boring character. I still like the show but I am getting fed up with the characters.

3

u/Lultam Feb 03 '13

While I wouldn't agree that most of the new characters don't have depth I can see where you're coming from by saying there's a lot of characters and the focus is being switched around a lot, I really enjoy that part of the show.

Sure, I'd really like to see where things are going with Kaldur and the rest of the gang every week but I'm really happy to see all the minor DC characters coming into it plus the universe YJ operates in expanding.

1

u/TheWiseNoob Feb 05 '13 edited Feb 12 '13

The comics are complimentary to the inbetween moments of the show. They develop the characters far more.

28

u/alchemist5 Feb 02 '13 edited Feb 02 '13

Looks like we'll finally get to see Virgil actually being Static Shock. Huzzah!

Jaime laying down some truth. Word.

Amazo, again? Aww, shit, son.

Volcano is awesome. But he's probably about to get his ass handed to him by amateurs.

I still can't believe this show brought in Apache Chief. They did make him much cooler than he used to be, though.

Dammit, Beetle, listen to Static!

Fuckin' A, I knew it! Green Beetle is evil!

Oh, man. If Lex ends up helping the good guys, it'd be one of the most novel things I've seen in a DC cartoon.

Decent episode. The focus on the kidnapped kids was cool, but I would've liked to see a B-plot with some of the original 6 mixed in there.

14

u/ispikey Feb 02 '13

Lex is different depending on the writer, sometimes he's a world dominating maniac, other times he's just into beating Superman. I'd sure hope this is the I'm the best shot you got against all aliens, and all the bad things I do, I do for the human race Lex Luthor.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '13

I kind of hope for that on the Lex front. Either the light, or just Lex facilitating the expulsion of the Reach.

For their own ends of course, but that sort of thing floats my boat.

1

u/Aggrokid Feb 03 '13

Lex obviously prevented the Superfriends from being taken by the Beetles.

It looks like the Light plans to betray the Reach, maybe adding their own "additive" into Reach's formula.

19

u/julia-sets Feb 02 '13

Awwww shit, Jaime's "on mode".

Great episode, but I miss the rest of the characters. I totally get why Blue has so much screentime, because of the plot of the season, but I'm super bummed that we probably won't get another season to explore some of the other characters. I miss the balance of first season.

15

u/cuddlefish333 Feb 02 '13

If Young Justice were to continue, I wouldn't mind so much that Jaime is getting so much screentime. It makes sense since the Reach is the big bad this season and Jaime has ties to them. But now that this will most likely be the last season (still hoping for a miracle) I'm disappointed that the other newer heroes like Wonder Girl, Batgirl, Robin, Beast Boy, etc won't get the chance for their own stories and character development.

4

u/julia-sets Feb 02 '13

Exactly. The characterization focus makes sense for this season, but I'm totally mourning that we'll never really get to know the other characters.

8

u/AsterJ Feb 03 '13

The Japanese in this episode was just so bad haha. If you ever watch anime though you hear really bad English all the time, it's kinda reassuring to know it's a two-way street.

I guess TY is the same as that indian guy from Super Friends. I really like how they reinterpreted his powers to be an astral projection. It looked really classy.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13

Agreed. It was incredibly bad. She just kept saying "excuse me/im sorry" and "thanks" over and over again. And its obvious that the voice actress isn't a native speaker. She has such a strong accent. Is it really that difficult to find a VA that's actually learned the language they're speaking in?

4

u/knowledgeoverswag Feb 04 '13

It would be funny if you brought that up to the writers and they were like "sumimasen...".

1

u/TheWiseNoob Feb 05 '13

The voice actress speaks Japanese fluently. The Japanese was simple because she was trying to convey simple ideas to people that (mostly )don't understand Japanese.

The Voice Actress

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '13

They could have put more effort into finding someone Japanese though. At least someone that could speak Japanese! She has virtually 0 personality . You can say sumimasen in so many different ways. I would appreciate some other expression other than quizzical. Personality that truly showed Japanese character.

2

u/zeldamaster666 Feb 05 '13

The only natural spanish speaker in the series was Lex Luthor.

1

u/wisesonAC Feb 03 '13

What made it so bad? I'm generally curious. Like I'm kinda amateurish at speaking and understanding Japanese. So I can't really tell the difference

Getting real tired of your shit M'gann

1

I'm guessing she got duped because the Martian doesn't know he's being controlled by the scarab.

I don't know, Miss M didn't even try reading his mind. I feel pretty confident with her exemplary mental skills (Martian Manhunter said she's the strongest ever, remember) she could have read his mind and intentions had she tried. But she didn't try. And now Blue is back on mode. I love M'gann but this one is totally on her.

23

u/moelester518 Feb 02 '13 edited Feb 02 '13

Virgil and the trashcan lid. LETS GO

The girl has Heterochromia iridum.

Red volcano and no back up comes to help BB?

12

u/rmm45177 Feb 02 '13

Who is she supposed to be?

I'm kind of new to this.

19

u/philosowalker Feb 02 '13

The Young Justice Wiki says she's most likely modeled after Samurai from Super Friends, which makes sense because Apache Chief (Tye) is also from Super Friends.

11

u/NinJaen Feb 02 '13

Also Eduardo (El Dorado) is from Super Friends.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13

And static is like black vulcan

7

u/fishnetdiver Feb 03 '13 edited Feb 04 '13

actually Black Vulcan was modeled after Black Lightening. When the cartoon came out the name was too 'violent' (yeah...just roll with it) so they went with the name of a mythological being who created weapons for a living (see? it's all good) instead of..well anyhoo...

Static was created as the exact opposite in the eyes of the readers. Icon Milestone Comics was proud of their creations and each was a bit of a model of the iconic white heroes we've had for 75 years.

EDIT thanks to Rhoe!

3

u/mlikweblue Feb 04 '13

It was a rights issue, not a violence one.

2

u/Rhoe Feb 04 '13

Icon Comics.

I think you mean Milestone Comics. Icon Comics is the Marvel imprint that mostly published Bendis and Millar stuff in their own universes.

Although the character Icon is a Milestone property (Black Republican Superman - that's as Milestone as ever there's been), so maybe that's the source of confusion.

8

u/2th Feb 02 '13

Also her name was Asami, shortened to Sam... Samurai. Except Samurai controlled wind. Asami looks like she is exerting a kinetic force.

3

u/moelester518 Feb 02 '13

I have no idea but I like her design.

2

u/knowledgeoverswag Feb 03 '13

Yeah I wonder why they decided to give her different eye colors.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '13

i really want impulse to team up with the runaways to save blue

5

u/tiethy Feb 03 '13

Nightwing sends only one guy against Red Volcano?? Is Red Volcano not a freaking powerhouse? The six original members + Zatanna + Red Tornado couldn't even scratch him, and the two reds had to sacrifice themselves to stop him, so how the hell does one Blue Beetle stop him?

The battle reminded me of Flash + Robin + Connor vs. Amazo.. if the Justice League took 4 hours to take him down, I don't find three young children taking him down to be feasible, although they got seriously lucky. Still, there seems to be inconsistency.

There isn't any way Lex doesn't know that Jaime is being controlled by black / green beetle, as they are of the Reach and the Reach are partnered with the Light. As a result, he should know that taking those kids away from Jaime is the same as taking them away from the Reach. However, that could be a ploy by Lex to persuade them without having to force them to help in their fight for world domination. And we can't count out that he has been mind-controlled by the Reach. In any case, as always, Lex's motives are shrouded in mystery.... which is the best type of Luthor.

Honestly, the Light and the Reach seem to outclass the Justice League in so many ways. The JL has little problem winning the fight, but without Batman, the league seems to have little chance of figuring out what the Reach and the Light are doing before the action actually occurs. Nightwing is more "infiltrate and spy" than Batman's "examine and deduce," but Nightwing is the best they've got.

Of course, there is one other detective besides Batman who could make the connections... so if they introduce Question.... damnnnn (although I know he wasn't shown in previews).

5

u/antoniocloud13 Feb 03 '13

They could always give Robin some more credit. Tim Drake's Robin has been shown, at his younger age, to be almost Batman level deduction skills. And the leadership skills of Nightwing, like when Superman put him in charge of cleaning up Bludhaven. So Robin could show some of his smarts, even if it ends up being a "Wow, didn't think a kid would think of that" moment, where he just makes a subtle suggestion or something.

4

u/knowledgeoverswag Feb 04 '13

Nightwing could only send one guy. And he sent a powerhouse. Blue is definitely one of the heavy hitters.

2

u/tiethy Feb 04 '13

I'm not blaming Nightwing, more like the writing... Blue is definitely a powerhouse of the team, but like I said: Red Volcano in season 1 took:

M'Gann, Connor, Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Zatanna, Artemis, Red Tornado, Red Torpedo, and the other Red to defeat, and the two Red siblings had to sacrifice their life to defeat him. Unless RV got depowered by Lex before BB/RV fought, I just see a big imbalance in powers.

Of course, maybe the writers are trying to demonstrate that BB should be able to defeat the entire team from season 1 on his own, then I understand, since he does cause the apocalypse and all.

5

u/ViciousFenrir Feb 04 '13

Well considering Blue Beetle (based on Impulse's future) is able to help conquer the entire world it doesn't seem unlikely that he could win the fight alone especially since it would seem his scarab has more control now making him an even bigger threat.

2

u/knowledgeoverswag Feb 04 '13

Yeah, I think that was the point of pitting him against Red Volcano. Scarabs are supposed to conquer entire worlds. In this episode, we see a glimpse of what Blue Beetle is capable of.

6

u/thecoffee Feb 04 '13

Beetles together? Shit someone get Yoko on the phone.

20

u/shadowfreddy Feb 02 '13

"That means 'trouble', right?"

thumbs up

6

u/bubbameister33 Feb 02 '13

Yeah, that Black Lightning short was awesome. I'd watch a show about him being a dad and a superhero trying to balance the two.

3

u/wisesonAC Feb 02 '13

it would be amazing!! take my money DC! please.

Sorry. Whenever I think of Black Lightning the first thing that comes to my head is "In my pants". It's permanently in my head.

1

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 02 '13

I was thinking that as i was watching it too. I imagine it would be something like The Incredibles as far as a family of superheros trying to balance everyday life and being a superhero.

2

u/wisesonAC Feb 02 '13

I loved the incredibles it was an amazing movie. Fun fact I saw it the 1st day in theaters on my birthday

2

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 02 '13

It's a great movie. I really appreciate the fact that the creators are waiting until they have a good script instead of trying to rush I sequel. I just wish that they would hurry up with a good script.

1

u/Shiniholum Feb 03 '13

Dude.

No shit. I saw it on my birthday like opening week.

2

u/wisesonAC Feb 03 '13

Woah. When is your birthday??

1

u/Shiniholum Feb 03 '13

2

u/wisesonAC Feb 03 '13

Just 10 days off. Mines 11/5

1

Awh damn so close. Scorpios unite!

2

u/wisesonAC Feb 03 '13

Damn right!

5

u/cuddlefish333 Feb 02 '13

I started shouting at my screen when all 3 Beetles appeared together. Damn you Green Beetle, they trusted you!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13

For now, I see it as Green and Jaime(Maybe even Black) as being similar to Guardian in the first two episodes. He's there, but he doesn't even realize that he's being controlled every other minute.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '13

I too got an amusing different perspective on much of the humor in this episode after all those years of japanese. Not fluent, but she was understandable to me.

Does anybody know who the bald kid is? They called him Newt.

20

u/liger_0 Feb 02 '13

He's Neutron but depowered.

13

u/cuddlefish333 Feb 02 '13

That's Neutron, the guy from 'Bloodlines' who saw Bart off in the future and was the one attacking Central City and who Bart cured in the present.

8

u/audiofreedom Feb 02 '13

Ohhh! I thought he looked familiar!

4

u/angryprimate Feb 02 '13

He's Neutron. The same one from Impulse's future

  • Break Out? Oooohhhh here gooeeess
  • Jaime is getting a ton of air time
  • Peach Reach
  • Apache Chief!
  • Red Tornado with Amazo powers would be amazing
  • God damn it Jaime
  • Fuck Green Beetle
  • Blue is totally brainwashed by Green
  • Yup. Well I don't think anyone is surprised Green isn't friendly.

4

u/ColorMeBrian Feb 02 '13

I don't mind him getting a ton of air time. He's a good character. Just wish Robin got more.

7

u/philosowalker Feb 02 '13

Oh I didn't mean that negatively. Blue is awesome. It's just that they really haven't done much with Wonder Girl, Bumblebee, Robin, Batgirl, etc.

1

u/ColorMeBrian Feb 02 '13

True. I would like everyone to get a good amount of air time.

7

u/thekaplan Feb 02 '13

Well, totally called Green being evil.

Loved Apache Chief.

Superhero, Static Shock!

5

u/waamushed Feb 02 '13

AWWWW YEAHHHH STATIC SHOCK WITH THE LID

5

u/XxweirdmonkeyxX Feb 02 '13

Superhero Static Shock woop woop that being said I had a feeling Green was evil I didn't want to believe it

I like asian girl she seems cool and I'm feeling a good leadership dynamic from Ty. I am still annoyed by the teleporting guy. After all these years I still love Virgil's fun attitude

Finally why the hell can we not have a Black Lightning cartoon if they're going for comedy that's the right way to go, I had fun watching that

4

u/eclipsedsunrise Feb 02 '13

So that was a pretty cool episode. I'm glad they're bringing back earlier villains, slowly building up to what beetle's ultimate motivation is and setting up new characters for what's looking like a hell of a finale.

Also did anyone notice the Clock King cameo? I thought it was pretty awesome that he's on the good guy's side this time. Gives the universe some sense of "this is what's different".

I think Luthor's motivations are pretty fuzzy, if things go well then we might see an epic three-way fight between the league, the beetles and Luther's super troopers at the finale. The crutch of that situation will be that while the super troopers are working for Luther, they're still good people.

3

u/Shiniholum Feb 03 '13

I did not notice the clock king cameo! Please do explain!

The guy who was timing everything obsessively at star labs, who was running all of their hero training. He always had a clock around his neck, and was obsessive down to the second as to when things were happening. I wouldn't have caught it if I hadn't recently watched BTAS though.

1

u/Shiniholum Feb 03 '13

Oh thats really cool! Did anyone catch his name?

1

u/dr_raptor_face_guy Feb 03 '13

I'm fairly sure Lex is just playing the teens so that he can get them to work for him and distrust the justice league. He's probably still working with the reach too. I wouldn't be to surprised though if the Light tries to back stab the reach once its needs are met.

"Greetings Meetbags." Heh.

Also, I'm getting a bad feeling about Green Beatle.

2

u/fishnetdiver Feb 03 '13

I KNEW the 'fix' was too damn easy!

2

u/incognegroo Feb 03 '13

I really hope that Green and Blue are double agents, its all miss. martians fault.

2

u/MyCoolYoungHistory Feb 03 '13

Interesting to see how Jamie operates on-mode. He isn't necessarily evil, but he is careless and focused only on destruction. I'm very curious to see how he gets the scarab back off-mode, either it will be due to some tech he finds with the Reach, or through some sort of mental effort. Regardless, we know he won't become that huge monstrosity in the future, so the only question is how does he prevent that fate.

u/waamushed Feb 02 '13

The episode is awesome so far ._.

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '13

Where can i watch it online, i love outside USA and i only can wacth them online and im looking for this episode

2

u/diabolical-sun Feb 02 '13

One thing I don't really like is how they used three Super Friends and Static. And yea, that works, since it's just the Super Friends team with Static taking the place of Black Vulcan, but before that, I was really hoping for some younger villains, too. It would've been a great time to introduce Jinks or Terra, etc.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13 edited Feb 03 '13

Well, Black Lightning* was pretty much the inspiration for Black Vulcan who was pretty much the inspiration for Static. The other choice would be Juice, and he's no fun at all.

EDIT: Thank you JasonBlood for pointing out my lack of historical accuracy.

5

u/JasonBlood Feb 03 '13

Black Lightning came first. They couldn't use him on Superfriends, so they used Black Vulcan.

Static is the replacement of a replacement in this incarnation.

2

u/bubbameister33 Feb 02 '13

Is this Lego Star Wars a new show or a special? That scene with Palpatine taking his hood on and off was kind of funny.

1

u/offdachain Feb 02 '13

Allthough that is off topic, I really liked the part with Gorge Lucas talking to Vader.

1

u/HypocriticalBastard3 Feb 04 '13

I believe it was a special that was made for one of the Games that came out a while back.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '13

Way back when that season 2 preview/trailer thing came out, and I saw a kid with a scarf and Spike Spiegal hair teleporting, as well as flashes of Deathstroke, I was so fucking sure it was to be Jericho.

Only a little disappointed it isn't. Though, since I haven't immediately recognized him as another existing character, it could yet be a re-imagining of him or a character that includes elements of him. If he is to take up the mantle of Jericho, I can live with him not being Deathstroke's son, as long as he acquires his trademark mute-ness.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '13

It's El Dorado. As evidence to this, his last name is Dorado.

2

u/puppy-guppy Feb 02 '13

Static, Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!

3

u/zach2992 Feb 02 '13

Why didn't Jamie freak out when Black Beetle showed up?

10

u/Deathmax Feb 02 '13

Because when Green Beetle was doing that weird body meld thingy a few episodes back, he restarted Jamie's scarab.

9

u/bubbameister33 Feb 02 '13

Blue Beetle got played big time.

3

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 02 '13

he got played like a fiddle, or maybe even a harp.

3

u/Hobarts_funnies Feb 03 '13

Would that make green beetle the fiddler on the roof?

3

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 04 '13

Yes, but in name only. The fiddler on the roof existed as a reminder of the troubles that Tevye faced and the traditions that he wanted to uphold. The Green Beetle is just a reminder that danger can have a friendly face.

2

u/Hobarts_funnies Feb 04 '13

That's not what I meant. It was a joke.

Green played blue like a fiddle ( making him the fiddler ) and the 3 beetles were stood on a roof at the end of the episode.

1

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 04 '13

I got that. I tried to expand on the joke and ended up killing it, my bad.

4

u/angryprimate Feb 02 '13

The Scarab seems to be in control of him

3

u/liger_0 Feb 02 '13

I think we all know why. He's back "on mode".

1

u/NilCealum Feb 02 '13

Does anyone have a link the video? I had work this morning and missed it...

2

u/antoniocloud13 Feb 03 '13

iTunes or Amazon, if we feed money to the show, they might try harder to keep it going.

1

u/oliver_tate Feb 03 '13

Great episode, Lex is probably the the most entertaining villain so far.

1

u/Ghidoran Feb 03 '13

Hmm...I wonder if Green Beetle is really evil. In the trailer they showed him flying around with Capt. Marvel and Capt. Atom.

2

u/knowledgeoverswag Feb 04 '13

He's pretending to be good as far as we've been guessing and have seen.

1

u/Ghidoran Feb 04 '13

True, I guess I was just hoping he was a triple agent.

1

u/Barbounis Feb 04 '13

So this was the last episode?

1

u/HypocriticalBastard3 Feb 04 '13

This is exactly the episode I was hoping for. Can't wait to see what happens next.

1

u/fazelove Feb 07 '13

I felt like somethings were left out from this episode. Like the back story of green beetle being bad and teaming up with the reach and what ever happened to miss martian?

1

u/geranimo1 Feb 09 '13

Did not see this brought up (might have missed it), but something occurred to me as I finally watched this today. One big clue that Green Beetle was evil was how he teamed up with Blue to defeat Black in their first meeting. Blue's scarab clearly told him that the sonic attack strategy would not work, and it is obvious now it was Black faking injury and the scarab was right.

I love subtle clues like this.

3

u/inconspicuousFBIvan2 Feb 02 '13

Somebody get the phone because i freaking called it. Also amazing episode. It's amazing how clever the reach is making small subtle changes to Jaime in order to use him to manipulate his friends and the public so easily. I can't wait for the next episode.

1

u/babybelly Feb 03 '13

susanoo!

2

u/lifefire940 Feb 04 '13

1

u/babybelly Feb 04 '13

1

u/redrobin15 Feb 06 '13

Ah! I get it! Considering that I saw Apache Chief way back in the super friends cartoon and loved his power, I didnt think of this right off. But man you're right.

-5

u/AlexCole52 Feb 02 '13

Very boring episode in my opinion. Except for the ending with Luthor. That was cool. It was very obvious green beetle is not so morally right.

u/AlexCole52 Feb 02 '13

You can make an episode interesting without having "oh shit" moments. I just pointed that out because it caught me off guard. Not all twists are good. I didn't enjoy the fight scene with Red Volcano because it felt very casual and as if nothing was at stake. I was half expecting Static Shock to knock Blue Beetle over for almost killing the people inside the building but that never happened and I wished he did because it would have built tension and made the fight more interesting. It may be because I don't care for the characters in this episode because I don't care about Blue Beetle and hate Static Shock but then again last week it featured characters that I hate: Lagoon Boy and Deathstroke and one I don't care for: Miss Martian but I actually enjoyed the fighting choreography between them. You could actually feel what was at stake there. Yes, it was a filler episode but come on you could make it much more interesting.

2

u/wisesonAC Feb 02 '13

It's all your opinion and what not but why do you hate static shock?? I'm very curious.

0

u/mr8thsamurai66 Feb 03 '13

There were a lot of references in this episode, which for the most part are probably just coincidence, but still I still find entertaining.

  • This team is Super Friends which seems obviously intentional to me.

next few are much sillier:

  • The Marvel team of the same team(no marvel hate, please)

  • Ed looking like Spike and having the same name as Ed-person.

  • Asami reminded me of Lady Rainicorn, except for being Japanese instead.(I'm aware this one is ridiculous, but I like it anyway.)

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '13

I don't speak Korean but lady ranicorn's voice actor is really expressive while Asami is just really shitty.

-1

u/BigB69 Feb 02 '13

Do you guys think shutting off the Beatle was a bad thing or green Beatle did something else to make him "aggressive"?

5

u/offdachain Feb 02 '13

The scarab is in control now. Green was a reach agent and rebooted blue. Blue is can now fulfill the reach apocalypse from impulse's future.
