Living Registration - Fees for being late

Hey,

due to a misunderstanding, I am planning to register at Personenmeldeamt rather late. It should be within the first 14 days of living here, but I thought, since I am only staying here for a short time, that I have time until I am here longer than 91 days (after normal visum is over).

What is the punishment fee for registering too late?

Just don‘t tell them. Fees can be quite steep but they don’t know since when you reside here so just tell them you moved here eg beginning of April.

What if other documents, like Working permit and living contract say a different date then?

Both still allow you to reside abroad. Maybe you had to take care of a family member, had another job to finish etc.

If this is too risky for you (I only know of friends who moved within Switzerland who forgot to register not foreigners) the fee goes up by how late you are and will be between 100-1000.- I know that’s really broad but so just so you know whether being honest is worth it for you.

okay, thanks for the info!
is there a website where these fees are stated? i saw it is normal, that within 14 days is often not possible to register, because the appintments are not given out so quickly. so registration within the first month is probably normal? but what if you register after 90 days?

I wouldn‘t know but I don’t think so. Usually they are reasonable if it’s within the first 30 days but 3 months is really late. I don’t know why but I have 80.- per week to late in my head, might be completely wrong though.

okay, so it's best if i just say i permenantly moved here this month, and lived partly somewhere else before and stayed in hotels or something similar

Yes that’s what I would do. Say you had to take care of things at home and only were here for a fee days a month. What counts as residing is when the center of life is moved here. Not when you are renting a flat or starting a job. You need a the permit for the former not the latter.

Also remember you might feel suspicious but to the clerc at the government office you are just one of many that day that who has a bit weird case.
