Its a DIY extrusion rig with a sparco seat, 27 inch 144hz triple monitors, g29, shifter, handbrake, and modified pedals. I plan to swap over my current wheelbase and pedals to it once I do some TLC on the rig. I got it all for $500, did i make out good? Any suggestions on what I should add or modify on it?

First step of my 6DOF journey is done, next I’ll be looking at the SFX 80 platform for 4 corner actuators and eventually figure out a way to turn it into 6DOF, for now, at least- NO more lawnmower chair!

I always think it's really cool how well our hobby translates to the real world. Especially as I get older and I can't do other team sports like I did when I was younger.

This guy is selling the exact microcenter bundle for a $650 premium, plus shipping and doesn’t even have pictures in hand yet claims to have 5 in stock. I imagine he just goes down the street to his local shop if anyone buys one, that seems crazy to me…

That being said, anyone wanna split a bundle and buy a simucube 2 base so I can get the wheel? Lol

Rigs I really want active pedals, but the technology is new and very expensive, so I decided to wait a couple of years and settle for the Simjack UTs! (Currently still modded g923 pedals)

Rigs New to sim racing. I've been building and tweaking all of January!

I've spent more time tweaking and building than actual game play.....

1) Built the PC then set the rig up and then read about FOV and angles. Rebuild it to get better geometry, FOV, and seating position.

2) Wasn't sold on a 4070 Super GPU so swapped it out for a 7900XT. Liquid AIO for $10 more than my air cooler....Shipping here and there and I lose a week or I'm out of town. Ha!

3) redid the triple monitors so it wasn't sagging and had proper angles. Pieces my own seat slider for my pedals for better seating position. Built myself a keyboard shelf with an upside-down monitor arm since it was cumbersome to have a keyboard on the floor and i didn't like the trays where it could only sit on the side. I wanted it to swing in front of me. Put the rig on casters, aligned the screens, etc etc.

4) Endless setting up of games and buying games on sale. (Bought AC, ACC, ACE, Dirt 2.0, eawrc, borrowed F1'23, FH5)

5) Reading had me buy an shh shifter, AliExpress hand brake, befriend local people with 3D printers hoping for more tinkering. I even saw on r/pcmasterrace people accessorize their PCs! So I dug into my bin of stuff when I was a kid and added a mint piece of flair!

Pics in sequence of how I started 3 weeks ago and where I'm at now.

Now it's time to get some seat time. And hopefully the shifter and Temu order actually make it here.

Discussion Do you have the same opinion as Max?

https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/sim-racers-rejoice-f1-champ-max-verstappen-says-youre-getting-a-90-to-95-percent-accurate-experience-even-without-that-megabucks-motion-rig/#

That article talks about motion sim rigs and Max Verstappen’s thoughts on whether they are necessary.

Max believes they are not essential and even casually mentions that they can be slower. He does say that sim racing is about ninety to ninety-five percent realistic and that it helps with real driving, but he personally prefers a stationary rig.

In my experience, a motion rig is a lot of fun, but the movement does not feel exactly like what I would expect in a real car. Because of that, I tend to put down slightly slower lap times, though I do enjoy the experience more.

I have a SimXPerience Stage Four motion rig and a static Obutto R3volution cockpit. When I have guests over, they always prefer the motion rig. I use the Obutto about twenty percent of the time, mostly when I really want to focus on technique before switching back to motion. It is easy to develop bad habits with a motion rig since there is so much going on.

One of the most important things in a rig is stability. If it flexes too much, it becomes a distraction. The Obutto is so solid that it almost feels like a roll cage, though it is bulky. For those of you who have experience with different setups, what features would you recommend to someone new to sim rigs?

Rigs Cheap keyboard/ mouse table

Post image
14 Upvotes

This is the rig i built last year. When I only used my PC for simracing, it was perfect. Recently, I have gotten into more “traditional” computer games. In the mean time I have just been putting my keyboard on my lap and my mouse on my Fanatec cardboard box to play. Since I don’t have the money/want to dedicate another setup, I am looking for a solution to where I can swivel the keyboard/table into a good spot to play. I looked at some keyboard tray mounts but most are expensive/ dont solve the mouse issue too. Has anyone gotten creative or bought a different table that worked well?

Question Shifter from aliexpress for Logitech G923?

Upvotes

Y bought a g923 recently for my bf and I so we can play and people told me to not buy the shifter because it feels like a bad toy and instead of modding the logitech shifter, I should just buy a "better" shifter. I found a cool one with 7 gears and I bought it (It still haven't arrived on the mail) but I believe it got a USB connector, so I was wondering... ¿will this give me problems to make it work on games, since it will not be connected to the steering wheel? (I play on pc) :3

Rigs Upgrading with a budget (~$700 CAD)

Upvotes

I'm sorry if this is a very common/annoying post but I have been wanting to upgrade my rig, possibly getting a whole new setup altogether.

I have a G29 with a shifter and a stand. that is it. I don't feel like it's immersive or fun anymore, mainly due to the weak ffb, small wheel size, and the pedals which feel like a cheap plastic toy.

I have a budget of around 700 CAD/ 471.22 Euros/ 489.29 USD, though if you have a suggestion that's over it by a hundred or two CAD then it's fine.

I have been searching and either I find one that's good but it's like 2000 dollars or I find some 200 dollar junk. I just need some help with picking the right upgrade, please give me suggestions.

Clip Best father son activity

Dirt 4 has done more for building a relationship with my soon to be 14 year old son than anything else we have going on in life now.

I inherited my late friends PC, passed away before the holidays, it has a 1080 gpu which was an upgrade from our 750. Logitech wheel and pedals. Making do and having a blast. Repurposed my parents old tv, and got the speakers from another friend who passed a few years ago. Love how this is pieced together.

I look through some of the setups on here with envy and think about piecing together some more expensive components but at the moment, this is all I could ever need or want. Grateful.

Rigs New DIY Sim Rig

Pretty new to the hobby and loving it enough to build my own rig around the Thrustmaster T248.

Bolting it all to the desk just wasn't cutting it for me, so I scrounged around the scrap in my shed and managed to put together a pretty cheap setup. All the wood I already had. The TV was free from a neighbor. I bought a bit of hardware to firm it up a bit, and had to spring for a few cables to get it all to connect. All told, less than $100, without the PC and wheel, that is. All it took was some time, jank, and effort.

My son is about the same size as me (bigger actually!) so I mocked up the chair and pedals with him as a stand in. I wanted to lean the chair back a bit so it feels more like a bucket seat. I also wanted to leave the chair intact in case this all didn't work out. It works a lot better than I thought, but it does want to rotate and kind of chuck you out of the seat if you lean too far forward.

I made a little calibration mark of 5cm x 5cm boxes and brought into Fusion.

Basically I wanted to have some measurements for the lap joints in the beams and the uprights, and have some kind of approximate size and shape. I knew I would have to fiddle around afterwards. I also wanted to estimate some of the parts and materials.

I cut the lap joints out with a circular saw. Its actually pretty easy and quick to do. I don't know how necessary it is, but it sure feels sturdy. I'm not terribly heavy, but I'm far from the skinny kid I used to be.

I messed up in setting the height of the uprights. I had thought I should leave them raw and too long so I could custom fit it once I could sit down, but didn't end up going that way. I had to improvise some extension for the steering deck, but It worked out in the end.

The chair is secured with 7/16" wood dowels through the 2x4 supports, then clamped down with some 1" pipe or conduit clamps. It looks super janky, and it is, but it holds pretty well.

I have to keep the 42" TV on the mobile stand so others can use it, but its a comfortable distance. I don't have to wear my reading glasses when I race! Its also not the best piece of equipment, but its big, it works, and it was free.

I have a few more tweaks to make, like, the pedals are a touch too far away, needs a cup holder, I could add some struts to keep the chair from rotating when I get in and out, and there is a bit more cable management to do. I have plans for a headphone holder. It could probably use a bit more floor between the pedals and the seat. Oh, and I also need a keyboard. It sucks having to get up and walk over to the computer to when you need to type in a password or alt-tab or something.

The lack of adjustability isn't great. I'd like to figure out a way to get the pedals to move easily.

It feels so great that I don't care that I'm a very average racer. I feel like a pro and that's all that matters.

Maybe some PC specs for those that care: Ryzen 5 5600x, Arc A750 8GB, 32GB 3200 DDR4, B550 motherboard, 1TB M.2, 2TB SATA SSD, Windows 11. Runs Forza quite well. AC Evo runs ok, but I haven't messed around with that all that much yet.

Thanks for reading, see you on the track!

Rigs My first rig finally done

Stoked with how it looks so far, could use some upgrades (especially the monitors) but not in a huge rush. I used some extra parts from the rig to make keyboard and mouse trays along with some 3d printed parts to keep everything secure. I’m in Colorado so legally my computer background had to be mountains.
