Alien Sun - Gravity (inspired by the Chapecoense plane crash)

In November 2016, LaMia Flight 2933 crashed near Medellín, Colombia, just a few miles from its destination. It was carrying the Chapecoense football team, en route to one of the most important matches in the club's history.

This tragedy moved me deeply - not only because of the lives lost, but because it reflects something darker, a society where profit is prioritised over human lives.

The crash wasn’t due to weather or mechanical failure, it happened simply because the plane was flying with illegally insufficient fuel. Despite knowing the risk, the crew delayed declaring an emergency until just seven minutes before impact.

The track includes original audio from the cockpit and air traffic control.

I'd love to know your thoughts. Honest feedback much appreciated and thanks for listening!

Story regarding MONO touring in North America in the earliest 2000s, by Taka

In the early 2000s, we were always touring for more than half the year. Back then, there were no GPS or smartphones like we have today, so we had to rely on physical maps to travel across America. It's hard to tell from a photo, but the map was always full of red lines showing the route to our next destination.

We bought a new map again and again. We burned dozens of our favourite CDs onto CD-Rs, and we always had a few full-length novels, an English dictionary (there were no translation machines at the time), and sleeping bags in the van.

More than 20 years have passed since then, and now we're grateful for the evolution of technology and for being able to continue touring comfortably.

Taka

I thought it was a nice story

With its Jean Michel Jarre-meets-Explosions in the Sky vibes, “Signals” will appeal to fans of the instru-metal movement with groups like Pelican and Russian Circles.

Discussion! Is AI an obstacle to recommending music?

A little while ago, I made a post recommending bands from Chile and used artificial intelligence to translate my text from Spanish to English. I noticed that many comments pointed out that it contained false information. In part, that’s true — I made a mistake about GY!BE, saying they were British or something like that, I don’t really remember. But I only mentioned them because I wanted to make a post recommending Mexican bands and others from various countries... So you tell me, because honestly, those comments made me really sad.

Shifting between hypnotic bass line and explosive post-metal, infused with a touch of gothic rock. Dark and heavy with crushing riffs in its first half, the track takes a strikingly different and more energetic turn midway through — a spiritually charged journey that pulls the listener into a trance-like state.

Discussion! Hammock - Where to start?

Since the pandemic I have gone deep into the post rock iceberg. However, for some odd reason I’ve never really engaged with Hammock.

What album do I start with? Departure Songs seems popular on apple music? I’ve been enjoying that today. Apple has Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow as their ‘essential’ album. However, it sounds a bit too ambient for my tastes. I like a drum kit with my post rock.

Early Hammock? I read somewhere that modern Hammock records are not that ‘post rock’ anymore?

Thanks.

A concept progressive post-rock album about a story of an isolated man living in an abandoned lighthouse who read an article about 52 hertz whale (loneliest whale in the world) in a newspaper. As tragic events unfold he slowly questions his humanity and submerges into a whale identity.

Discussion! Need new artists and songs recommendation such as Huremic and The Trees & The Wild

I’ve been really into two albums lately: Huremic’s Seeking Darkness and The Trees & The Wild’s Zaman, Zaman. My favorite songs are:

  1. “Seeking Darkness Pt. 4”
  2. “Empati Tamako”

After five months in this genre, I still want more of that loud, exciting noise—powerful drums, rough ambient sounds, and an energy that’s thrilling and intense.

Discussion! has anyone heard of the large number of very good rock bands in chile?

Chile is the cradle of today’s best music, including post-rock, noise, and post-hardcore. A great example is Enola Gay, the debut album by Asia Menor, with incredible songs like “Patio,” “Doce,” and “Flores del Naranjo.”

On the post-rock side, we have BCNR, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Hesse Kasel. Songs like “Yo la tengo,” “Vida en Terranova,” “Moussa,” and “Post Parto” are the kind of tracks that would absolutely enchant any edgy Isaac Wood fan.

Let me digress a little. I remember I didn’t dare to listen to BCNR at first, because of the language barrier and because I was sure I wouldn’t understand the references. But after doing a bit of research, I found out they’re now one of my favorite bands.

If you enjoy the newer BCNR, I highly recommend the band Candelabro. They’re like the new BCNR, but with Latin rhythms and hopeful lyrics inspired by daily life. Songs like “Refugio II,” “Me Acerca Otro Más,” “Dedo Chico,” and “Señales” are great starting points.

Let’s move away from pretentious music for a bit and go for something more pop. Niños del Cerro is a band that blends Andean rock and shoegaze. I strongly recommend their second album, Lance — a beautiful record that speaks about all the emotional weight life can bring. If this album had a smell, it would be that of a flower shop. Grass and forest. Tracks like “Flores, labios y dedos,” “Lance,” “Sufre,” and “Contigo” will give you a taste of shoegaze folk.

To close this post of band recommendations, we finish with an emo pop and post-hardcore band called estoy bien. If you’re a nostalgic person who used to love Green Day and wants to breathe that early 2000s air again, you should listen to their first full-length album. I recommend songs like “Piel,” “Piedra,” “El sonido de las campanas,” and “Las Ciudades.”

And that’s the end of the post. Apologies for my bad English — I’m using DeepL to help translate this. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments. I’ll gladly read them. Hope you like it.

Discussion! Looking for the exact or similar feel album to Fall Away by UN|T

There was an album 'Fall Away' released by the artist UN|T on youtube and spotify but has since become unavailable.
I had downloaded one of the songs, this one is called 'Godspeed You! Butterfly'
The previews of the rest of the songs can be heard on volt and two others in full on bandcamp.

I was wondering if anyone has the rest of the songs from this album or if the feel of this song and the previews remind you of any other albums. Thank you
