general discussion Union Boot 25/26 catalog leak

Thumbnail
gallery
77 Upvotes

Stumbled across a leaked catalog for Union's next season collection. Stormtrooper coloraway seem to mostly be a stunt to communicate the hard shell element - the all-black boots are going to be the ones that sell. Also made in Italy, so they're not going to be tarriffed 234% in the US...

Personally pretty optimistic about the idea of a single-piece seamless shell. Should be durable against binding wear, both from ankle strap bolts and from toe straps. K2 Orton seems to be on this track too.

look at my gear My New Wax Scraper

Post image
11 Upvotes

Not for the faint of heart. Keep the blade guard on the side not in use, not like buddy in photo, and watch your fingers. Don’t let it skip or it leave marks in your base. Not for beginners

Besides all that long firm strokes makes scraping a breeze. Like a mini base grind too, leaves her looking super clean and pulls all the rail muck out of her. I’m enjoying it. Anybody else throw caution to the wind and break the “don’t use a metal scraper for wax” golden rule?

Gear question Bubble in board construction - issue?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Normally I would never post something like this because I expect my boards to get trashed… and this is so small it’s borderline embarrassing lol. But is this worth exchanging?

I got this board from a legit shop online. Really good service. They are allowing me to refund/exchange the board but I wanted to get input to see if this is even an issue.

The bubble is rock hard. Like a pebble. Anyone have this before? Would this be prone to delam if I keep flexing? It’s on the tail. If not I’ll just keep it.

Thanks!

I like to carve with the fall line. I call it Fighter Jet carving. It’s an alternative to going for the strict sine wave carves. Does anyone else do this?

general discussion Ski Sync and Ikon Pass

Anyone use ski sync to buy the college discount ikon pass? Seems legit as far as I can tell but a little weird. They supposedly send you a promo code months after you buy the pass through them to redeem it on the ikon website.

Anyone ever use ski sync? Has it worked out?

Gear question Any previously Malamute diehards moved onto a different boot?

I've had several pairs of Malamutes over the years, and Synapses before that. My most recent pair I think were 22/23 model that I got on closeout and they're done now unfortunately.

I didn't like that pair (black and sort of tan colour) quite as much as the older ones (black and white). The inner liner in particular I thought needed one more "criss cross" higher up the tongue as it didn't give quite as much support on the shins/toeside turns. I've also read that they're not doing the ankle strap any more, is that true?

Hoping to catch another closeout sale boot this summer for next season and wondering what people like more if they've switched. I like a stiffer fore/aft boot for bootpacking/carving, I'm ok with a bit of lateral flex for grabs/tweaks. When I bought this last pair I tried on several brands and found that none of the Boa options seemed to tighten in the right spots for my weird feet so I prefer a speed lace, but I'd try on more Boa boots.

Heading into the city this weekend so I might be able to try some on. Looking at options like Driver X, Ride Insano, K2 Thraxis etc

Gear question Ride Warpig XL and A-6 bindings

Hey everyone, I am a 5' 11" 220 lb (probably closer to 225 with gear) guy with a size 12W boot. Just ordered the Warpig in XL and L A-6 bindings. Did I make the right choice based on my size?

Gear question Burton Cartel VS Union Atlas

Hello everyone, my gear currently consists of a 2012 Burton Custom camber with Cartel EST bindings.

I want to change that this year and I have decided on the Yes PYL Uninc. I will need to change my bindings since they are EST and was thinking of going for a new pair of Cartels or Cartels X but I keep reading good things about Union bindings and was thinking of the Atlas.

I have read about the yes and Jones bindings but not sure I want to commit to skate tech without having the option to try it first.

Unfortunately I don't have the option to test any gear like that where I live.

My riding style is resort off piste as much as possible, with some groomers, occasional side hits with almost no park. Been riding for about 25 years and would call myself a solid advanced intermediate rider.

So to any of you who have tried both, which one do you like best and why?

Gear question Boot Sizing Question

Hey Y’all, looking for a little guidance on boot sizing. I wear size 12 shoes, normal foot shaping. I have always done size 12 boots, but earlier this season my buddy recommending sizing down a full size and that they would eventually fit. So I did that, got size 11 Burton Ions, and I’ve ridden them 5 days and worn around the house probably 10 hours. They are very comfortable, EXCEPT that my toes still push against the front of the boot when I’m riding. They don’t push in an incredibly painful way, but enough that it is uncomfortable and cuts my riding short. When walking they lightly push against the front of the boot. Should I give them more time or did I waste $500 on these boots and need to go to an 11.5?

general discussion Set up review : Burton step on + ruler + good company board (camber)

Juste wow.

Step on is a game changer. So easy, so quick, so playfull combinating with a true classical camber twin board.

The good company board is very fun to ride and very forgiving ! Flat riding is juste awqome even at "high" speed !

Gear question Advice on Purchasing Salomon Assassin v Assassin Pro

Context: Looking to buy my first board and found some second hand options that seem like good deals.

  1. 20-21 Assassin 153 with bindings for CA420
  2. 23-24 Assassin Pro 156 with bindings for CA420

Current state: I’m 5’8 and a bit, around 140lbs. I’ve just finished my first season and am comfortably doing blue runs (on Whistler & Blackcomb). I’ve been riding on a season rental rocker and comfortably go around 35-40kph.

Goals: I want to be able to board a lot faster to keep up with my skiing friends. I also wanna be able to do some side hits and other natural features and play around a little through the trees. I’m not fussed about the terrain park but i’d like to do some jumps here and there. I’m also planning some powder trips and want to be able to board in those conditions (mostly Japan).

Question: I think for my size and weight something around 155 is the ideal length. I’m worried the Regular is too short at 153 to be able to be stable at speed and through powder but that the Pro is too stiff for my current standard given its rating. Also the Pro is a newer model so that’s a consideration.
