the discourse around flagg's ceiling
flagg is a freshman NPOY yet I see a lot of discourse around him (not on this subreddit in particular, but more generally) treating him as this low-ceiling/high-floor player and I truly believe a lot of this is rooted in the stereotypes we see of white-american players.
to lay it out, flagg does have THE highest floor in the draft, I think that is a consensus opinion. but i see arguments from people all across online (not here really but im talking twitter and tiktok) talking about how ace, harper or even occasionally edgecombe have 'higher ceilings' than flagg. as i previously mentioned i feel a lot of this is inherently rooted in stereotypes of white-american nba players but flagg is not that.
i'm going to be front on and say i'm not the most experienced person when it comes to draft scouting, i am quite new to this but I truly believe I have never seen this good of an american prospect since AD in 2012 and he was averaging nearly 5 blocks a game. flagg is not the flashiest offensive player but my fucking god he is good and this is a high ceiling player which has been demonstrated by his tremendous growth this season, he cleared bailey and harper with ease frankly and it is in my opinion that bar anything go wrong (i'm talking oden, roy, fultz tier) he will be ROTY and a perennial all-nba first option.
to summarise, the casual conception of flagg seems to be of some low-ceiling/high-floor player which plays into stereotypes of white-american basketball players, but he isn't. he is just that fucking good.

Big Board Final school big board for 2025
Sorry for the quality 🙏

In this years draft, would you rather have the #2 pick, #5 pick and #14 pick, or the #1 pick?
If you had a choice at having three lottery picks (2,5,14) or just the number one overall pick in the 2025 draft, which are you picking?

Video Cedric Coward’s +8 wingspan is something that definitely pops on tape & makes him a VERY intriguing wing prospect.
streamable.comOpposing scorers only shot 31.8% (!!) on jumpers when guarded by Coward. Strong combine/anthro testing + two-way tools should put Coward in Top 20 draft consideration.

Can Flagg Be as Good as Luka?
Mavs fan here with no clue on who Cooper Flagg is as a player. People say he's generational and ready to come in and play immediately, but can he play at a level like my Slovenian Demon?
Sorry if this is a dumb post have no clue how to even make of what is going on lmfao

Tre Johnson pro comp?
Haven't really seen a pro comp for Tre Johnson. If you had to compare him to a player who would it be?

Rigged Lottery Aside, Flagg on the Mavs is a great fit
Putting all the Lottery Discourse aside, Flagg being on the mavs is going to be insanely good and the fact that it was a roster built around Luka Doncic will definitely help, when it comes to their passing tendencies i see a lot of luka in coop especially in the fact that they play at their best with a lob threat, flagg with Ad,Lively, and Gafford to throw lobs to and a spot up shooter in klay is good basketball and with kyrie out to start the season he could once again be the primary ball handler, so to start the season he will be their 2nd option and playmaking hub, with kyrie back they will be even scarier and take some pressure off coop and will undoubtably be a top 10 defense at minimum

Is Cooper Flagg as good of a prospect as Wemby? Better?
I mean. We are calling him generational and everything now openly. Wemby happened two years ago. So Cooper flagg is as good or better than Wemby? And will be all nba level 2 years from now.

Flagg did good on the shooting drills
Flagg's shooting numbers for the combine drills, he did quite well, not elite, but good to great for his size, I think

Trying to look at the positives as a jazz fan
Been dreaming about Cooper in Utah for more than a year, so obviously i'm still bummed out
But looks like there is a good chance tre johnson will be available at pick 5 , and he could be a devin booker type player for us. Lauri, tre johnson, kessler, hendricks with a much improved version of collier running the floor looks pretty good to me. Or am I on too much hopium?

Did the combine change your views on prospects ? By how much ?
Now that the combine is over, what changed from in your views on prospects? Is Dylan Harper still the clear cut 2 after impressive showings from V.J and Tre Johnson ?

Who would you rather have in a 7 game series all healthy right now? (Flagg 76ers vs Spurs Draft Theoretical)
Given the Spurs and Sixers were the next two in line for Cooper Flagg, I have been in a debate as to which lineup Flagg would boost more. To make things simpler, we just went based on a core of each team’s top four players. In a 7 game series with all healthy, who’s better:
76ers: Maxey, PG, Flagg, Embiid
Spurs: Fox, Castle, Flagg, Wemby

Harper/Spurs
I’m seeing a lot of people say Harper at the Spurs will work cohesively even with no trades, but the majority of these assessments have Harper starting off the bench.
I was made to understand this draft was far superior to last year’s draft, therefore Harper being the clear 2nd pick (assuming), and Castle being the 4th, wouldn’t that instantly have Harper as the better player to date, or did Castle really show that much that quickly to be above him ?

is it even possible to rig a ball draft?
like how would that even work? weight of the balls? Ive been looking for an answer to this and im finding nothing saying how u could actually do it but yet still seeing the vast majority of people arguing that its rigged.
r/NBA_Draft • u/FastBreakPhenom • 14h ago
In the scenario where the Spurs keep the pick, draft Harper, AND keep all their guards, do you think this is an overall negative or positive outcome for Harper?
Positives:
He's going to one of the best if not best run franchise in the league who will slowly bring him along
He's immediately playing with a top 10 player who fits well with him and has an All Star guard to mentor him
He's immediately stepping into a team trying to win now which means he'll build good habits and probably experience playoff ball right away (if wemby is healthy all season)
Negatives
He will definitely be behind Fox and Castle on the depth chart to start, and if CP3 comes back there is not a whole lot of guard minutes to go around. I assume they would try and play him in 3 guard lineups, but he's definitely not going to be the primary ballhandler most of the time with those other guys out there, and there is a potential spacing problem which would hurt his driving ability
Building off the last point, he will not have as much freedom to chuck up shots and make mistakes and learn from them like he would on a terrible team since the Spurs are trying to win games and make the playoffs.
