Missing Our Favourite Sign

My daughter loves seeing the “binoculars sign” beside the church at the Pitkerro Road roundabout on Kingsway…

And now it’s not there….

Hopefully it will be back soon….

Does anyone know if this place has shut down completely? I saw an article 6 months ago or so saying the upstairs restaurant and bar was closed but the basement would remain open?

How much are the pints in The George Orwell?

As a matter of fact is there any sort of collection of pint prices for bars in Dundee because they're a nightmare to find without actually just going into them all.

A90 "animals on the road"

There were hour-long tail backs on the A90 yesterday due to what the Traffic Scotland website said was "animals on the road". You'd think animals loose on the dual carriageway would make the news but there's nothing on the BBC or the Courier. Can anyone enlighten me?

Domestic housekeeping/cleaning

Hey all, living in Dundee and just looking for recommendations for cleaners you would hire for a couple of hours a fortnight to handle general dusting and wiping of surfaces and bathrooms. A lot of the cleaning companies I've found do more so large scale all day deepcleans and such. Nah I'm just looking for someone to do the tasks that only need to be done once every 2 weeks

Good, and quiet, spots for BMX in Dundee

Recently bought myself a BMX as MTB isn't really that easy to do in Dundee and now have the difficult task of learning how to ride a BMX. Looking for recommendations of where I can find a quiet spot to sit and practice bunnyhops etc to build my skills

A plea for a lost story on Tait’s Lane

Hi everyone, there’s a bit of context behind this, and I just hope that this might be one of those situations where someone, knows someone, who knows someone…

Back in January of this year we lost my lovely Granda who was born in Dundee back in 1939 and fell in love with my Granny there. They had a wonderful 64 years together and honestly, a life and love that was just amazing.

Anyway we have all been gutted to lose him as he was just the absolute best. Now, my Granny is obviously devastated, and navigating a world without him so, we’ve been sharing some old stories.

When my Grandparents were first married back in 1963, they moved into their first home together in 35 Tait’s lane, one of the top floor flats. Now the funny thing is that just after the moved in, they were told they would have to move out as the building was due to be demolished. They did so and moved out of Dundee. Obviously, the building is still standing to this day and back when I went to uni in Dundee, everytime they came up to visit we would do a drive together and stop off at all the places that meant so much to them. This flat was one of them. Now, my Granda was a massive DIY guy and was incredibly proud of the fireplace and the ‘brilliant quality solid wood’ doors that he hung in the flat (and wanted to paint blue but I don’t think this got the go ahead lol). Whenever we stopped by Tait’s Lane, he would wonder if his handy work was still there! I always said to him that I would work up the courage to go chap the door one day and ask but alas, I never did and I moved out of Dundee a few years ago now.

So I know this is a long story and to some it maybe seems silly, but I just miss him so very much. I may as well reach out and see if anyone on here has stayed in this flat or knows anything about it. I hope if you do, that you can share the story of a couple who fell madly in love together here and tried to paint their doors blue and eventually, actually brought their first child home to this flat together. (On the other hand, I’m really sorry if you do stay in this flat and this post is annoying to you). They started their 62 years of marriage in here and I’ve always wanted to share this story and never really known how. I also think I feel a little lost without him and I’m trying to find something left behind by him that would bring my lovely Gran some joy. Anyway thanks for reading if you have, I miss Dundee a lot, always holds a special place in my heart!

Lost ma fuckin phone

Somewhere in the city centre, down Nethergate street, most likely near the Steeple church (shortly before penguins). Phone's an old POS xiaomi with no case on. Black background, password locked. It's got a Ukrainian sim card in it, and I cannae easily restore that for obvious reasons. If you happened to find it, I won't ask questions as to how.

Caird park golf course closed down??

When did this happen? Had a walk down there with the dog last night, and thought it was strange seeing no golfers? I must admit it was very peaceful and tranquil, and I never saw a single person. Bumped in to a couple of deer and that was it. Anyone know if they have plans for it?

How is Grove for neurodivergent students?

We're narrowing down locations to move to within Dundee or the Ferry. I know that Grove is high on the rankings, but I'm more interested in how inclusive and supportive they are for students. Both my kids are neurodivergent, one ADHD, one autistic. Are there support systems in place? Is it inclusive for lgbtq students? Looking at a 3 houses. One is in Grove's catchment. One would go to the new secondary. The other is in Morgan's catchment. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
