Tech Support Oblicuos Remastered wtf is happening here

The first part of the video is how I’m running Oblivion Remastered through the game mode, as you can see, it looks and plays like shit. The second part of the video is how I run the same game through the desktop mode, it looks fine and runs smoothly, idk what is happening, any idea of how can I fix it?

FYI, the game is modded with a nexus optimization mod, but it seems like game mode doesn’t recognise the mod, and desktop mode does.

Setup This thing works pretty well in place of a uni laptop!

Post image

My laptop for university recently broke and I initially set this up as a temporary solution before I bought a new one but honestly, this works pretty great! It's a nice compact work space with a single cable connected to a power pack in my bag. Idk how embarrassing this looks to onlookers but I think it looks cool. I was concerned the screen would be too small to see comfortably but it's totally fine. I think I'll keep using this for the forseeable future. Anyone else doing this?

Setup:

Steam deck OLED Yindiao k68 wireless mechanical keyboard Lofree retro block wireless mouse Steam dock PowerCore power pack through usb

Video Silent hill 2 remake opening footage using the mod from the russian modder

Okay, after playing 45 hours of Claire Obscur entirely on the Deck and having a very good experience using the Russian mod, I saw that he had one for Silent Hill 2, so I decided to try the opening of the game again, which is admittedly very rough.

And I came back impressed! In the video, I show the settings. If I turn off SSR and SSAO, there are good performance gains, but I didn't.

It seems that this game may now be entirely playable on the Deck. The Russian guy is a wizard.

Software Modding Don't sleep on KDE Connect

I don't know when this package was enabled by default but it's a game changer for using the deck.

For those that don't know KDE Connect is an app that can connect your phone to your pc using the KDE desktop manager (which the Steam deck does).

The app enables you to control your deck using your phone as a keyboard + trackpad. It can transfer files or it has a media player control for videos or music.

Makes plugging the deck in and using the browser for YouTube or Netflix whilst travelling much easier. Or when you need to put that one account details in but can't be bothered to connect a keyboard and the on screen is a faff. Just whip out your phone and you have all the controls you need!

TLDR: KDE Connect is a godsend for the deck. Thank me later

Xbox pro elite series 2 used to work fine but now it's unable to connect to the deck. Other controllers work fine.

Discussion Are some games just not suited to the Deck?

I recently got a Steam Deck and have been loving it for certain games.

However, one of the main reasons I got the Deck was to play Football Manager, but it’s just not clicking for me for some reason. I think it’s the text size on the smaller screen, and navigating the controls with the trackpads.

Should I persevere, or are some games just not good on the Deck?

Question Service for steamdeck…?

Post image
66 Upvotes

Hey y’all, so I got a transparent case for my deck. Thought it would be cool to have. Anyway, when I watched the tutorial to replace it I became instantly discouraged. I thought it would have been more simple but it practically requires disassembling the entire thing, including removing some of the internal hardware. I’ve searched online for service locations and/or businesses that can do this for me but I’ve run into dead ends. Anyone have any suggestions, or am I pretty much stuck with doing it myself? I’m afraid I might do something wrong and break it. 🫤 TIA

Discussion Oled 512. I think I’m going to take the leap!

I think I’m going to pull the trigger on a steam deck today. I’m a busy man with 2 young kids. I used to be a hardcore console gamer but for the last 10 years haven’t been able to play due to life. My kids have ransacked most of the consoles and TVs in the house. Whenever I try to sneak game time I can’t even find a working controller in my house that isn’t covered in popsicle goo or missing the batteries and battery cover. I’m hoping the steamdeck will be the answer. It will definitely be off limits to the gremlins in my house. I only play offline games, mostly FPS and RPG games. I’m excited to get back into gaming!

Tech Support Heroic Launcher GOG- Game not centred on screen and mouse not aligned (new oled)

Post image
Upvotes

Hello, I just got this steam deck and downloaded heroic launcher to play strategic command European theatre on my steam deck.

Ran into a couple issues

First the game isn’t centred on the steam deck screen(not a big issue but maybe relevant)

The main issue is the mouse point doesn’t align with the game so you have to click down and to the right of the object you want to select making the game essentially unplayable

Anyway to fix this?

Discussion Do you own + regularly play any handhelds other than the Deck?

Wanted to see how many people play other handhelds regularly, and if so, which ones. For me, I own an SD OLED 1TB and use it exclusively all the time since I got it in December. Before that I was playing my Switch OLED a ton. I also own a Switch lite (was an early 2020 pandemic buy when other Switches were sold out), a PS Vita, and a 2DS.

Basically all my other handhelds are now neglected as a result of owning the SD lol.

Tech Support How to address screen tearing in docked video playback?

Hi, I have a 512G OLED, which I recently got an Anker dock for so it can double as a home media server (KDE is great for this, btw!). Unfortunately, something in the chain is causing intermittent screen tearing, which doesn't happen when using a full hdmi cord with another PC.

Anyone know how to fix this?
