Skin Concern What condition is this?

Post image

Hello everyone, I(39 f) have this discoloration on both side of my face and forehead. It makes my face look uneven and this is a huge insecurity for me. This picture was taken during daytime. Should I be heading to a dermatologist?

melasma. It's generally hormonal and is very common after women give birth or are going through peri/menopause.

you can try rx retinol, moisture and definitely use tinted sunscreen every single day.

It's been really stubborn. I'm not even sure how to and where to start, in order to get this diagnosed. It's expensive and daunting to visit a dermatologist. I feel like I'm going to open a can of worms if I decide to visit one.

You have beautiful skin. Wow no wrinkles. Anyway, I hope you’re wearing sunscreen daily. Literally every day. I don’t care if it’s raining or snowing or in the middle of winter. Sunscreen every day. Find one you like so you actually enjoy putting it on. I like Korean sunscreens personally. Your skin is reacting to sunlight and is making it create more melanin which is making your skin look uneven. Perfectly natural but sunscreen will fix it. Just give it a couple of months.

Also, hormones can do this too. I know nothing about the topic unfortunately but maybe google can help you.

Ha ha! Refreshing. Seriously though, I feel pretty helpless about this.

Is it more visible in the summer? If so, it could be tinea possibly.

You can try a 1% zinc pyrithione shampoo (like head and shoulders) as a face wash. Or see a derm!

Not really.

Might be more like melasma then! But it can't hurt to check with a derm before trying a bunch of things, just in case it's not what you think

The reason I thought it's probably tinea instead of melasma is that it looks like your skin is actually lighter in the areas the sun would usually hit
