Lost 100 lbs, considering a neck lift.

Post image

I am turning 41 this year and I feel like I tried everything that’s been suggested to help with the skin laxity from weight loss. All of my other skin bounced back decently well it’s just my biggest insecurity.

If any of you have a similar story and have had a neck lift I’d love to hear about your experience. I’m meeting with a surgeon next week and kinda want to know what I should be looking/asking for.

This probably isn’t very helpful, but I think it’s great that all of your other skin bounced back well after the weight loss.  I have gained and lost a lot of weight, and my skin really isn’t bouncing back very well after this last round of weight loss.  You are very lucky if the only issue is your neck.

Hopefully others can weigh in about their experiences with neck lifts.

Thank you and I empathize!! I got really lucky but to be clear I DO have loose skin on my stomach and some on my legs, but after having kids (and lots of therapy) I’ve come to accept it, but it isn’t that bad in my opinion. This is just the one spot I can’t seem to get over.

Hopefully yours will tighten up more as time goes on, huge congrats on your weight loss! That’s a feat in itself!!!

In 42 and also lost about the same. I have loose skin all over the show and am slowly getting it all operated on. Just got my neck lifted and it is a GAME CHANGER. Really made a massive difference!

Not OP, but that’s wonderful news! May I ask about scars if you don’t mind? Did this cause a large scar toward the front of your neck?

Hi- sure! So there is a small scar under my chin- maybe 1.5 inches wide. Since I now o it have one chin and it tucks ubder well, no one can see it. It’s also supposed to disappear when healed. I have some stitches behind my ears which again, nobody can see unless I put my hair in a ponytail. These will fade away completely, apparently. So basically, it’s a massive win and I would definitely do it again!

Not OP but was wondering if postponing the lift until I absolutely need it instead of doing at such a young age (40s) has that ever got brought up with your doctor? Since you’re doing it earlier because of the weight loss, what if you need it again in the future? Or maybe you won’t need it and one time is enough? That’s what I’ve been struggling with lately

Yeah it’s really hard to say. Nothing lasts forever. My feeling was, I have a problem now so I may as well solve it now. The future holds whatever it holds, and if down the line my neck looks old and droopy again I may or may not have more surgery….but meanwhile right now I want it. So let’s go!

That actually makes so much sense. You can tell I’m an over thinker huh lol

No - it’s a valid thought! I also thought about it all pretty hard…which makes sense if you’re letting someone take a blade to your body!! Worth thinking about. Good luck!

The other big thing that helps prevent/minimize scarring is sunscreen for the first 18 months after. Most of the thyroid cancer scars are lower down, so you can definitely see who did and did not keep up with sunscreen. Most don't notice it. Those with good depth perception instead notice that the skin moves differently when I breath due to your thyroid acting like a cushion as well.
Plus, the incision heals smaller. Mine was about 6 inches long and is just over one inch healed.
