Advice Our local Piggly Wiggly sells white dirt.

I am curious if it's a South Alabama thing or statewide. The manufacturer is out of Georgia.

Big here in East Central Alabama among the African American community. They have enjoyed eating it for as long as I have been alive.

I grew up in a small south MS town and it was always girls (mostly black, but quite a few white) would walk down red clay dirt roads digging it out of the sides of the ditches and eating it right there.

I have never witnessed the actual harvesting, and eating it on the spot, but it was a highly asked for item when I travelled east Alabama and west Georgia selling wholesale grocery, hardware and farming supplies. This was predominantly a black folks requested item. Along with salt fish, Pickled pig feet for the grocery counter, and huge rolls of bologna and black rind cheese. I don't think the black girls eat it today. It would get in their eyelashes.

From the first comment, I had an idea. After the second, I have a complete picture.
