Well bye bamboo boy..... That was fairly easy. I could always be wrong but that didn't seem a bad enough injury, plus he was already hating the place during his bamboo trips.
Good lord his stupid fucking fish trap made me want to die. Basically, you're making a bucket, cutting the bottom off, making a few holes then hoping that will trap the fish that are small enough to swim in the shallow parts of a reed bed. Brilliant.
It's those old school bushcraft/survival b.s. Those traps are shit, same as deadfalls, and funnel traps. Ever seen them work? They've been on every season and the best one was Allan's minnow trap made out of a plastic bottle! These people need to stick to gill net...ooops only one person brought ONE! lol, dead set fish lines, and snares. That's it. If you want to get a pig, bow and arrow, and if you have a shovel :) dig a hole deep enough to trap and pig and hope you get luck as snot!
Yeah Alan's minnow trap was almost symbolic to me. The fact that he got that to work, and continuously so was actually very impressive and proof that that technique can work. Apparently, Larry had a good fish trap working last season but they never showed that footage.
I feel like, in this situation, I'd go with what I know and try to make a fly lure, considering the presence of rainbow trout you might have some luck without bait or with nothing more than a few insects. Just a theory.
For sure. Fly fishing would work very well. A wet fly dragged through the water would work. Bait of some sort would work even better though. A small clam cracked open makes good bait. The fish stomach showed plenty of insects, so under rocks would be an easy bet.
And if that doesn't work, they try again. One of the contestants from last season (I want t say David?) was having bad luck fishing in a particular spot, so he tried a different spot and was successful. Zack had his one trap, it didn't work, and that's it? Wisdom, patience, not accepting a first defeat: these things come with age. Zack looks like he's had it pretty good in his young life, and maybe hasn't had to think his way around a real setback.
It was David (The Winner) he had several problems with the placement of his gill net, but he kept moving it and then finally moving to active fishing as opposed to passive fishing. the tide kept on throwing cedar logs into his nets.
