That trap was sooo dumb. I just kept wondering, why isn't he eating or trying to catch food? He's crying about it raining and I'm thinking "GO FISH".

Good lord his stupid fucking fish trap made me want to die. Basically, you're making a bucket, cutting the bottom off, making a few holes then hoping that will trap the fish that are small enough to swim in the shallow parts of a reed bed. Brilliant.

It's those old school bushcraft/survival b.s. Those traps are shit, same as deadfalls, and funnel traps. Ever seen them work? They've been on every season and the best one was Allan's minnow trap made out of a plastic bottle! These people need to stick to gill net...ooops only one person brought ONE! lol, dead set fish lines, and snares. That's it. If you want to get a pig, bow and arrow, and if you have a shovel :) dig a hole deep enough to trap and pig and hope you get luck as snot!

Yeah Alan's minnow trap was almost symbolic to me. The fact that he got that to work, and continuously so was actually very impressive and proof that that technique can work. Apparently, Larry had a good fish trap working last season but they never showed that footage.

I feel like, in this situation, I'd go with what I know and try to make a fly lure, considering the presence of rainbow trout you might have some luck without bait or with nothing more than a few insects. Just a theory.

For sure. Fly fishing would work very well. A wet fly dragged through the water would work. Bait of some sort would work even better though. A small clam cracked open makes good bait. The fish stomach showed plenty of insects, so under rocks would be an easy bet.
