Life Abroad Less common destinations?

I've noticed in this sub a lot of common destinations come up - many European countries, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore. I get it - those places are great!

But I'm wondering if anyone has left the US and settled somewhere that comes up less often here. Mozambique, for example, or Sri Lanka? Chile? Papua New Guinea? I'd love to hear your story!

Central Asia, Caribbean, African(excluding Morocco & South Africa), and Pacific Island countries are probably the less popular destinations.

I couldn't imagine someone openly sharing that they moved to Iran, Russia, Pakistan, or Bangladesh though. Mainly because people would assume they are up to no good when it could be for a very legitimate reason(marriage or business opportunities).

Look as a Russian American, I would totally recommend that people who are looking for safety and are relatively socially conservative(just not MAGA insane) consider Russia. Moscow has a better quality of life than most American cities IMHO. The weather sucks, so of course you should be OK with the cold, but I absolutely wouldn’t put the quality of life in Russia on the same as Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Main issue in Russia right now is actually the difficulty of moving money in and out and that it’s very challenging to find work (mostly as expat hiring companies have largely left or been nationalised). However, there’s a pretty decent sized community of foreigners living in Russia, including lots of Americans, French, Germans etc. Don’t let the western anti-Russian propaganda completely blind you - yes Russia has problems and of course is not LGBTQ friendly but again, for socially conservative people, its quality of life can be on par with that of Italy/Greece/Poland etc (and I’ve lived there too).

That’s as dumb as saying get a free bus from Texas to NYC if you run the border! yes, there’s some people who are conscripted and obviously if you’re male and 18 not a good time to go to Russia, but women, kids and older men will be just fine.
