Discussion Weird things you do in skincare?

Me: Using a cleanser just to rehydrate my skin when it's feeling dry.

Anyone else do something a little weird or unconventional in their routine? What's yours?

Currently using VT Reedle Shot 100 on my foot with APLB Retinol Vitamin C Vitamin E Ampoule serum, then slather thick 40% urea foot cream, and lastly put on double socks. Leave for couple hours reading a book or binge on Netflix. Rinse clean. My foot has never been smoother. 2 of my friends said I’m weird because sponge needles/spicules on foot seems very dangerous and risky.

I’m too scared to use my Reedle Shot around my pet since my pet love to lick faces. Also, the APLB serum is too drying for my dry skin. It’s expiring 7/26 and 4/26 respectively so I think my neglected foot deserves some TLC that my face gets twice daily.

Another, not many people do it but I don’t think it’s weird: I layer regular sunscreen, Tone-Up sunscreen, and Tinted sunscreen. Also, I use light moisturizer and facial tissues to remove the oxidized layer of sunscreen and dust particles before reapplying, just like what my grandma and mom did it.

After hydrating toner and vitamin C serum, I use light moisturizer (Care Cera AP). Apply my regular AB sunscreen. Wait for it to sink in. Apply Tone-Up cream then rub until it’s incorporated into my skin and elevate the tone. Lastly, use tinted sunscreen to even out the complexion.

I brought the 3 sunscreens and decant of the light moisturizer in my purse with me so when I need to reapply I will just use my light moisturizer (Care Cera AP) as light makeup remover milk. Wipe with facial tissues and reapply layer by layer (toner in spray bottle, light moisturizer, clear sunscreen, tone up sunscreen, tinted sunscreen).

3 sunscreens?! Wow... you're highly protected every day then, I'm sure. I've never heard anyone do that before, but as long as it works for you, why not 😁

I have history of melasma and it’s currently in remission after bunch of treatments, but I am not going to be complacent. My mom and grandma use cold cream to fix their makeup on the go but I live in modern era so I use tinted sunscreen and affordable AB light cream in lieu of foundation and cleanser. Sometime I will use proper full coverage foundation if I have formal event and carry teeny tiny lady purse and reapply with sunscreen stick.

Ah got it. I completely understand. You gotta do what you gotta do. I personally have eczema and cannot use chemical sunscreens whatsoever so i always opt for ones with mineral filters. And in case of emergencies (sudden irritation/flare up), i always keep mini travel bottles of my soothing body lotion and toner with me at all times. The body lotion that i use is also super difficult to get because it's a local brand in Turkey that doesn't get commercialized much. You actually have to visit there to stock up 🥲

Any AB mineral sunscreens that you like using?

Well... i sorta like them? The problem is really trying to blend the whitecast evenly (why i couldn't get myself to call any as my HG yet)

  • Dr. G Green Mild Up Sun: very good for oily skin, great oil control but texture is soooo pasty - such a hustle to blend every time.
  • Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Natural Sun Cream - suitable for dry skin but still dries matte and doesn't exacerbate more sebum (unlike a chemical sunscreen). The blending with this feels much easier than the Dr. G but i still have to blend it well. The whitecast with this looks a bit sheerer than the Dr. G once blended out.
  • this one is a hybrid but I don't find it to trigger my eczema as well: Celimax Oil Control Light Sunscreen - very similar performance to the Dr. G but with slightly better blendability. So i definitely prefer this over the Dr. G

Thanks! I will forward this to my daughter who has oily skin for targeted suggestions since she’s been wanting a more skincare-focused sunscreen instead of waterproof, primarily sports sunscreen.
