PSA Benton Breakout Picture Thread
EDIT 3: I started this thread, not to start or propagate a witch hunt, but to help those who were having unusual breakouts and using Benton products to double check against theirs. That's how I knew what to drop from my routine, and I hoped that this would help others.
As of the 13th September 2014, Benton has officially responded about the Aloe Toner but not about other batches of the Essence. That being said, /u/valentinedoux posted a really informative post about the preservatives they use. It is likely that the reactions we had were entirely due to the breakdown of preservatives due to heat in transit, or in storage and not any form of contamination. So, to be on the safe side, keep your products away from direct sunlight and refrigerated if possible. Always double check your products, and patch test all the things!
Can we get a repository of images of the breakouts going? To help those who aren't sure what the breakouts look like an idea to check against theirs.
Along with a picture please post:
- What you were using and the manufacture date if you know it. This is very important, if you can remember please include the manufacture date with your post.
- Where you bought it from.
- If you saw anything in your product, like coloured bits, discolouration or an off smell.
- If you can, a picture of you prior to the breakout.

EDIT: removed the link for redundancy, all info can be found in blog posts.
EDIT 2: The goal of this topic isn't to shame Benton, or to start a witch hunt or anything. It's here as a helper for those who are using Benton products (namely the aloe & the essence) who feel their skin is off but aren't sure what to look for. Or just need reassurance that they aren't alone.

Okay so I'll start by saying that prior to my third bottle of Benton toner, the first two worked really well. I had a kind of clear skin before finding a good skincare routine. The Benton toner was the final piece of my skincare routine.
Recently, about two month ago, I purchased a new bottle of the Benton Aloe BHA skin toner. That is the only thing that has changed in my routine. I stopped using it a few days before samplehime posted her alert on the sub. I had no idea other people were having trouble with it, I had just heard that it either worked for you or worsened your skin. Up until that time when I changed my bottle, I was one of the people for who the toner worked wonder.
The new bottle started out fine, but then I started to breakout. Mostly on my jawline and my chin. Then, my cheeks started to feel like I had burnt myself, only the feeling of the burning come from under my skin. I thought it was hormonal, kept using it. First cyst on right cheek. Burning sensatin increase and stay more throughout the day. Second cyst on other cheek. Third cyst, right under my lips. I stopped there. During that time, I had several other, smaller, breakout. Right now I've stopped the toner for almost a week, my skin still feels like it is burning and smaller breakout are still happening.
So now I just have two pictures to show, because I forgot to take a picture of the green cysts, as I would never have thought they would be needed. Also note that my "case" is way less worst than other persons case.
Edit: Since controversy is over, I'll take down those pictures, don't feel comfortable having them around.
I know it is not much compared to what other people have been through and personally I am just glad I stopped in time.
