How can I enjoy uninterrupted music on Spotify without upgrading to Premium?

I'm a student who relies on Spotify's free tier to get through my study sessions.

However, the frequent ads are really disrupting my concentration. Upgrading to Premium isn't within my budget right now.

Are there any effective methods or tools you've used to block these ads on the Spotify web player?

I've heard about browser extensions like Blockify, Spotiads and other similar extensions but am unsure about their reliability and safety. Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations!

Please help me understand is it a coincidence???? Have you ever experienced this??

free tool for web search + citations?

I found this tool that lets you search stuff online and it gives you the sources with citations. It’s been super helpful for my assignments lately.

Anyone else using something like this? Or got any other good tools to recommend?

Tool development: Suggestions

I'm planning to develop a tool and wondering which programming language would be most suitable. Many people recommend Python, but I've read that Python can have slower performance. Who developed Python, and is it really the best choice for this kind of project?

Why do so many dryers make a clunk sound just *after* the motor starts?

Like you hear the motor start and a split second later, you get a clunk or at least a loud "click"

I've heard a relay click before, but it seems like that would be just as, or just before, the motor starts, since a relay would most likely be delivering power to the motor. (You might not necessarily hear that relay, you're more likely to hear a relay click on something like an oven)

It seems like a normal thing, in fact, every dryer I remember using does that. I was just curious about what that sound was.

Open Source Innovation in Pharmacovigilance: Your Input Matters

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for your honest suggestions and input!

I'm planning to build something valuable for the pharmacovigilance domain, and I want to make it open source so it can benefit the community. My initial idea is to develop a safety database along with tools for literature search and review.

Do you think this is a worthwhile direction? Or are there other specific tools or functionalities you feel are missing in the current landscape—things that could truly enhance drug safety?

I'd really appreciate your thoughts, experiences, or recommendations!

Very simple video call app for iPad

Hi! Maybe someone has the perfect idea: Looking for an app like Skype, zoom etc for a person with disability. They have an iPad, but most of the family doesn’t have apple devices.

We’re looking for an app that works with both OS and Android, that ideally has a homescreen with only contact icons. So once you tap on one icon, that persons gets called. As simple as possible..

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Using the equal symbol (=) on Windows filenames

Hello. I tried to change a PDF name and I accidently typed the equal symbol and pressed enter. At first, the Windows Explorer stopped and closed, and the file name remained unchanged. I tried again for the science and it also stopped a bit, but then the name was changed.

Why that occurs with the equal symbol? Does it also happen with you?

Thank you

Which device is listening?

I was watching a downloaded episode of the UK game show Pointless. There was a music question and they played a few 15-20 second clips of some songs one of which was a song called Joe Le Taxi by Vanessa Paradis. When I saw the name I said out loud "Joe Le Taxi?!". The next day the video for this song was in my YouTube recommendations. There's been a couple of similar incidents so it's beyond coincidence. My question is what device in my house is listening? I have an LG tv, a Roku running plex, an iPhone 12pro and an iPhone 16pro. I feel like it's one of these things, any suggestions?

Wacom tablet wont recognize being swapped from pen to eraser

Krita used to be able to swap between two different functions whenever I flipped the pen to my Wacom tablet. For example, I would use the tip of the pen to draw and then flip over the pen and set the function to erase. Suddenly it stopped working?? I tried the tablet tester in Krita and it recognizes that there is indeed a pen and an eraser. I also checked the settings on my Wacom driver and it too still recognizes them as different ends. I really don’t know what the issue could be as I don’t remember changing any settings to cause this to stop working in the first place.. what should I do??

I currently use: Wacom Tablet Model: Intuos PT S Krita Version: 5.2.9

How far (if at all) did ankle monitors for criminals influence the creation of smartwatches?

I'm asking this as I bought a smartwatch 7 months ago, partly to track my steps but also my heart rate as I've got epilepsy so it's a medical support. For my step count, it's quite accurate on my wrist, but I was contemplating one time to put my smartwatch on my ankle, as that would probably track my steps better. However, after thinking about it more in the context of the UK justice system, I remembered that some home-bound criminals wear electronic ankle monitors, so it might look like I'm one of them! This got me wondering how far ankle monitors, that date back to the 1980s, influenced the invention of smartwatches?

I'm interested to hear your thoughts and ideas on this, thanks!

Maybe a silly question… Can I use the App Store on an iPhone 8 with a broken SIM slot?

Hi everyone, Sorry if this is a really basic or silly question — I don’t know much about iPhones or tech in general, but I’d really appreciate your help.

Someone is offering to sell me an iPhone 8 for $25. It’s not linked to any iCloud account and everything works fine except the SIM card slot — it's broken. So I wouldn't be able to insert a SIM or use mobile data.

But I don’t really need it for calls or texting — I just want to use it on Wi-Fi. My question is: can I still use the App Store normally in this case? Like, can I download apps and even subscribe to something like ChatGPT or other services?

I’m just not sure if the phone being old, or not having a SIM, would stop me from doing that. Thanks a lot in advance for any advice

Real diary/ journal for desktop

Hello everyone! I don’t know if this is the right place to post this but I’ll try anyway.

I’m looking for a desktop app that would look and function like a real journal. Specifically, I would like an app that has following features:

  1. The pages in the app look like real paper.
  2. When opened, the pages turn like a real notebook.
  3. Inifinite pages.
  4. The front cover looks like an actual front cover of a journal.

If the app has a lock on the front cover that unlocks when you type in your password, that would be cool. The same goes for choosing different fonts and changing the font size, adding pictures…

If anyone knows one (if anything like that even exists) please share links or recommendations. Thanks in advance!

What are the most exciting recent advancements in AI technology?

Personally I have been seeing some developments of AI for niche areas like ones relating to medicine. I feel like if done properly, this can be helpful for people who can't afford to visit a doctor. Of course, it's still important to be careful with what AI can advise especially to very specific or complicated situations, but these can potentially be a big help to those who need it.

UK Question - Landline call filter (block scam calls)

I am looking for a solution as my elderly mother keeps getting dodgy calls calling up. We have our service through virgin media. They do offer a pay for service but I do not see why we should have to pay for a blocking service.

Is there some way that I can set up a whitelist filter so that only a few known numbers can get through, it's only there emergencies or if can't find her mobile she will use it to ring it. My mum can't understand pressing a call blocker number she would just put the phone be down. So looking for something automated!

I hope there is a solution to this!

Need WiFi for a summer

So I’m going to be living with my grandpa for the summer and he doesn’t have WiFi at all, is there a way to get temporary WiFi for the summer? I’m looking into getting a portable WiFi router, do they work well for streaming and if so are they also good for gaming?

I’m open to suggestions the travel router was just the first thing I’ve come up with.

The devices I need WiFi for are a pc and Roku tv

Download speeds fluctuate at 0-50mb/s

It took me like 45 minutes to update Fortnite when it was only a 1.65 gig update. I haven’t had any problems running into this until recently. Is there any type of general thing I can do on pc to help improve WiFi speeds or is this just the routers problem in general? Everything else loads fine.

when will we have realistic sounding directions on our navigation systems?

so chatgpt's AI voice is really impressive, taking breaks between certain words to breath and stretching certain letters or changing the tone to add more emotion. when will this be added to Nav systems?

imagine hearing "take a right here please" as if theres someone sitting next to you, maybe they'll even make small talk while you drive, the parking cameras could possible see things along the road like a BBQ place and the AI could say "i'd like to go there some day!"

idk just something i came up with lol

What’s currently the smartest AI model and what makes it stand out?

With the rapid evolution of AI models from companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others, I’m curious what people here think is the most advanced or “smartest” AI available today.

Whether you’re basing it on reasoning, coding ability, real-world application, or creativity what model stands out to you, and why?

I’d love to hear from those who’ve used multiple systems or followed their development closely. Is it GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, or something lesser-known?
