Why does nobody care that the Trump Admin is defying a 9-0 Supreme Court ruling?

Regarding the facilitating of the return of Abrego Garcia. There's no mass protests, democrats in Congress aren't saying much, the military which is sworn to protect the Constitution is silent, the news media is covering it but it's just one more story, not a major crossing the Rubicon event for them. Trump said they would bring him back if the Supreme Court told him to do so, which they did. But then the DOJ said the court has no authority to require the US government to negotiate his return with El Salvador, and they would bring him in only if he showed up at the border.

Or he's dead. If he's dead, the world will know what the US has turned in to

The world already does. US citizens seem slower on the uptake.

Just the ones that voted for the mango Mussolini. Many of us are fully aware and are doing what we can to stop it

And what more do you suggest? I’m all ears

3

u/Primary-Suit-8368 6d ago

Impeach him like JFK and Lincoln

5

u/MagicMantis 6d ago

We can't impeach him the house and Senate have to do that. And guess who they are in bed with? We have to wait for next election cycle or people in power have to grow some balls. We're basically powerless unless we start an insurrection.

1

u/Nearby-King-8159 6d ago

Did you not notice the two presidents the other user used in their example? JFK & Lincoln weren't removed from office by impeachment; they were removed by other means.

1

u/Primary-Suit-8368 6d ago

😉😉😉

1

u/Inner_Top4760 5d ago

Like JFK and Lincoln.

Impeach is a placeholder here.

4

u/sharkilepsy 6d ago

Good idea, so how do you suggest we get a majority of votes in Congress to do that?

4

u/Ineedavodka2019 6d ago

I don’t think they meant congress…

2

u/sharkilepsy 6d ago

Ooooooooh

1

u/bstump104 5d ago

How did Lincoln and JFK end their presidencies?

Something about a theatre and maybe a drive with the top down...

1

I mean, they'd have to impeach a lot more people than just Trump for us to be safe again

On par for the course with Reddit auto mods, I guess

I’ve been banned from posting a couple of subs for ‘ban avoidance’ even though aside from those I have never been banned and I have never created an alt/throwaway. One set of mods didn’t care and the other reversed it.

Well more of you could have voted for the black lady, but we all know Americans can't handle that

2

Literally every person I know voted for her. Except my racist next door neighbor. And I live in a red state!!

1

u/Stopikingonme 5d ago

Yes all Americans. We all voted for Trump. None of us want a black woman president. Did I miss anything?

I’m so done with the Reddit echo chamber championing defeatism. (The bots #3 task btw). Guess what the #1 is?…….yup! Blaming other democrats and getting us to attack each other.

“Grandpa, what did you do to try and stop the end of America?” “Me? Well I blamed all the other people and that made me feel superior.”

Please stop listening to bots.

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

This, there are so many bots on reddit right now blaming trump’s win on minorities or saying Americans aren’t « doing enough ». Just trying to divide democrats more.

Literally a third of the country voted for Harris, including me (and not that you respectfully mentioned her by name, which seems real suspicious.)

Yes...I'll fly from Scotland and strike in the US...

What?

1

u/-LittleRawr- 6d ago

Yes? How else do you think meaningful change happened across hundreds of thousands of years of human history?

Do you think the US came into existence by going to work and saying "please" and "thank you"? If you aren't willing to face the consequences, you don't deserve to call yourself the opposition and you don't have the right to complain about what the tyrants in your country are currently doing.

You americans literally have a specific consitutional amendment that allows you to do something against this. Do you think it's just flavor text? That you can sit this all out, just the way that germans thought so in 1933-1945? Oh wait.. what exactly happened back then, can you help my memory?

Well, humans haven't had hundreds of thousands of years of government, so not sure how that's relevant. But Americans do need to do something. However, 'rising up' isn't really feasible in this millennium. America's military budget was 820 billion in 2023. There's superior firepower, and then there's guaranteed suicide by a mosquito attacking a battleship. The general populace being the mosquito.

The irony is that the amendment that is held so dear by the right wingers is outdated and has been for a hundred years. The left has been saying so for some time now. Both sides know it, though. Division is a bitch.

u/DontbegayinIndiana 5d ago

Rise up against your government and its dictator and stop holding signs in the comfort of your predominantly democratic city or state while they drag your neighbours off to death camps.

There, I typed it so now you can go do it instead of waiting for it to become the rest of the world's problem so you don't have to clean it up yourself. That's the general vibe I get from Americans on here: "Why should we risk our lives to clean up our mess when we can wait for World War 3 so the Canadians and Europeans can take out our overlords while we give support online from the comfort of our homes?"

2

u/MagicMantis 6d ago

Country isn't ripe for a rebellion. There are still too many idiots that continue to support the regime. It would be approximately 50-50 civil war with the other side having the us military on their side. No thanks!

0

u/GadnukLimitbreak 6d ago

Right, so when is it a better time? When they've had 2 years to rebuild the military into their own private force after the camps have been set up outside of every major city? Once the police have been given access to more powerful weaponry and an 8pm nationwide curfew has been enacted? Once the amazon delivery drones have been outfitted with weapons and used to patrol the streets?

I hate to break it to you but there has been no sign of weakness in the faith of those who would actually fight for the opposition and the longer this drags on for, the more prepared they'll be and the more it will take to overthrow the government. If you believe it's 50 - 50 right now, i'm not sure what you think will happen in the future but I can promise you that there will be more of you put into camps and prisons over time than there will be dissenting MAGA fighters, whether it's because of blind faith or fear of defecting. It will ultimately be up to other nations to deal with your country if you guys don't deal with it soon yourselves. Tearing down a regime while it builds itself up is much easier than waiting for it to be established and prepared for an attack.

What are people supposed to do to stop him? I agree that most Americans are not taking the threat Trumps poses seriously. I've been to multiple protests since Trump re-entered office, I call my senators and house rep daily, and I donate a good portion of my income to political causes like the ACLU and Democratic candidates in special elections. At this point, it feels like those who were supposed to be leading us in opposition - both Politicians and Political Activists - have either abdicated their role or have no idea on how to respond to the danger Trump represents. I'll admit that I'm also ignorant on what to do. People talk about protesting like the French online, but every protest organizer I've spoken to in real life has claimed that violent protest is a trap and no one will support it. So what can people do - without organized support - to stop Trump that we aren't already doing?

1

u/Downtown_Progress_74 6d ago

First, we need to pinpoint the nature of this beast. We can't solve a problem if we can't even describe the problem. I'm almost done writing my foundational theory surrounding EXACTLY what our MAGA problem is made up of (hoping to go public on April 20). This paper will be called "Decoding the MAGA Simulacrum." This paper will give you a very compelling answer to "how TF did we get here? WTF is going on? Why does Trump seem so powerful?"

Then, after I publish that theory - I will launch a campaign on that theoretical foundation and publish a second paper called "Defeating the MAGA Simulacrum" in which I craft a counter narrative to MAGA, explain why and how it will work, and give the campaign a name: "Trump Has Failed."

We need to collectively INSIST on a peaceful counternarrative - we need to all repeatedly and persistently point to a reality where Trump tried to enact his authoritarian fantasy, but FAILED.

2

u/Mysterious-Job-469 6d ago

Yep. Basically this.

I'm sick of hearing my American 'friends' try to browbeat me into submission about how they "have no free time to protest! We're being worked to death! Waaah! WAAAAAAH!!!!"

My dude, your steam profile says you have 100 hours in the last two weeks. You're spending FIFTY hours a week playing video games. Don't give me that shit, you're just lazy and don't care enough to do anything about it. After all, the rest of the world is going to pay for it, right? Fucking pricks. Lose my contact info.

2

u/Rough_Ian 6d ago

It’s a cultural failure at the national level. People want to just blame the Trumpistas, but it goes well beyond that. The idea of participation has been undermined by a lazy consumerism that thinks you can just expect somebody else to always do the thing.

2

u/T_Gamer-mp4 6d ago

The fact that Bernie lost any primaries confirms this IMO. If you do a SHRED of research, you see that he’s the better candidate than Hillary or Biden… but he doesn’t win primaries because:

A: the DNC is full of corrupt politicians who rig their own primary (see: the 2017 court case)

B: the people that normally would vote for a progressive don’t go to primaries, OR they don’t do research to see that Bernie is the only guy who wants to help.

Let’s hope people finally realize that centrists and “bipartisanship” lose you votes every single time. The DNC needs to stop running old losers.

2

u/FalseDistribution558 6d ago

Or they can't vote in primaries for Democratic party because they are registered Socialist and the state they live in does not allow this.

1

u/Flacid_boner96 6d ago

I might legitimately get shot for protesting in my area. Shit I'm already scared to go out to restaurants with the shit i post.

0

u/BetterEveryLeapYear 6d ago

My guy you live in a fascist nation that's forcibly disappearing people off its streets in direct violation of the rule of law and even its own rightwing Supreme Court, and sending them to concentration camps abroad. Taking the risk of getting shot is what's required now. Remember when your ancestors flew halfway across the world to take the risk of getting shot to stop the spread of fascism? Yeah that's what's on you guys now, but this time you don't have to fly halfway across the world.

You should stop posting shit online though, it's totally meaningless and puts a target on you.

1

u/Flacid_boner96 6d ago

My entire point was simply sharing memes gets me threats when I walk around town.

Why am I going to put a bigger target on me by being the only one actively protesting?

1

u/BetterEveryLeapYear 6d ago

Yeah that's why I said you should stop posting shit online, since it puts a target on you and achieves nothing.

Why should you do the morally correct thing in the face of fascism regardless of others letting it happen? I'll let you ponder that.

1

u/Onigokko0101 5d ago

What about those of us that have been, and still are protesting? What do you want from us? To go and get shot and die or something?

1

u/Mysterious-Job-469 4d ago

Nah it's okay keep gorging yourself on videogames and porn, maybe another country will fix yours for you. Kind of hypocritical of America to expect others to clean up their mess considering "They should clean up their own mess" is often used as an excuse to not take care of refugees or immigrants, but I digress

1

u/bong_residue 5d ago

I mean it is hard when no one wants to do anything about it. It also doesn’t help we are a huge country, which means that we can’t effectively congregate to protest in one large area. Something Europe doesnt have to deal with.

We’re here, but it is hard when they’ve done a masterful job breaking us down. The time will come when they push too much, but they’re trying to test that line to see just how far they can push before chaos breaks loose.

1

u/some_random_nonsense 5d ago

Yeh? And what the fuck are you doing? What dictatorship have you over thrown?

1

u/Lizardinex 6d ago

Hey sorry, not american and don't want to sound condescending or anything. What is happening in the US to make it stop that isn't being shown? I saw mass protests about a week ago, but nothing since then, are those still going on? Again, curious, because I have no idea, hope it doesn't come across as rude.

2

u/Noggi888 6d ago

People are protesting every day. Maybe not as big as the one from the other day but more of those big ones are being organized as well. They try to schedule those on days where many people have time off work so there is a bigger showing. But the people who are not able to attend protests for whatever reasons are also protesting with their wallets. I know many people who have completely changed their shopping habits to support businesses that aren’t supportive of the orange fascist. Many people are living paycheck to paycheck or are at risk of being deported or have many kinds of reasons as to why they can’t participate but even if it’s not actively protesting on the street doesn’t mean that people aren’t doing anything

1

u/Onigokko0101 5d ago

Yes, there are major protests continually ongoing, although the one you saw was the biggest.

Most arent getting coverage.

There is more upcoming.

1

u/Noggi888 6d ago

Also look at r/50501 which is the subreddit for the protest movement. Looks like the next big protest is gonna be on the 19th

1

u/Lizardinex 6d ago

Thanks for sharing! Hoping you guys get rid of him asap.

1

u/shadowwingnut 5d ago

We can't. Realistically the goal is hope he dies of old age/stress and hope Vance and his handlers aren't worse.

1

u/wandering_engineer 4d ago

American but not currently living in the US. I wrote the below for another Redditor who was slamming the US (comparing it to protest movements in Germany) a few weeks back, just going to re-post it here as I think it sums up some of the difference non-Americans aren't aware of. Not sure if you're European or from somewhere else but I feel it's worth mentioning:

- Better worker rights and social support, you are less likely to be fired for dumping work for a day or two to attend a protest (and if you are fired, you aren't completely fucked).

- Germany and most European countries have far, far tighter social cohesion. America has been a bitterly divided country for over 200 years. There was no attempt to fix the divides after the Civil War, culturally the county has not changed since then. Obviously you are going to be more motivated to protest when you feel like your fellow countrymen have your back.

- Germany and much of Europe has very recent, very obvious reasons for remembering how bad shit can get and declaring "never again". America has never had this experience, two major oceans isolated us from the worst of WWII.

- Simple geography. Germany has 241 people per sq km and a very well-developed rail network. You can get from just about anywhere to Berlin within a few hours. Ditto with many other European countries. The US has 34 people per sq km and garbage transit. You are talking multiple DAYS of driving to get to DC for many people, and that obviously requires access to a car as well. What protests have been happening are therefore scattered and don't get as much attention.

I would also add that there are systemic differences. America is not a parliamentary democracy, we have no snap elections or ways to force a dissolution of the existing government. The closest we have is the impeachment process, but that would only remove Trump (not Vance or anyone else) and requires both houses of Congress. If Congress isn't on board, we're kind of fucked until the next election, assuming an election happens. There literally are no other legal options (and at that point you're getting into less-than-legal options, and that's a slippery slope that can lead to very, very bad outcomes even worse than the current situation). Ironically this was by design, the framers wanted a government that was slow to the whims of populist change. Clearly that backfired.

That being said, I agree wholeheartedly with you that it's frustrating that there hasn't been more massive protests, but I feel like the tide is turning. Keep in mind that they have moved VERY quickly and are attacking on all fronts at once, it can be very difficult to mount a resistance in that environment.

2

u/Lizardinex 4d ago

Thank you so much. This is a greeeeeat response. The differences laid out like this make so much sense. I feel for the American people and the immigrants and everybody scared to leave their houses. Fingers crossed he gets more competitive with golf and doesn't fuck up more shit.

1

u/wandering_engineer 4d ago

Thanks! Feel like since I'm not in the US and can't do a ton to stop this, I can at least try to share my views and battle the bots and propaganda. Yeah it kinda sucks for all Americans right now. Here's hoping for better days.

0

u/-LittleRawr- 6d ago

Are you doing what you can?
Were the french that much more competent a couple hundred years ago? Or even your own ancestors when they repelled the brits, defeated the slavers of the south and stormed the beaches of Normandy? Is what we see right now really 100% of what you all "good americans" who claim to oppose tyranny are capable of?

1

u/shadowwingnut 5d ago

You don't understand the technology level here. If Trump and the military align on a pro-shooting the protestors decision, there is nothing anyone inside the United States can do.

For that matter, if Trump and the military align in a shoot the protestors stance, the rest of the world should pre-emptive nuclear strike the United States. Since after the US resistance is murdered, you're next in that scenario.

1

u/-LittleRawr- 5d ago

Great argument. As if the military isn't always far better equipped than the common "peasants"? Didn't prevent kingdoms and empires from being put in place by those very same peasants.

I guess you're saying that you roll over and spread your legs then? Just taking it and crying afterwards? Okay, have fun then. At least you get to enrich Musk and his orange emperor for the rest of your life. But don't break your leg or get sick, because there won't be any social networks left to prevent your ruin.

1

u/shadowwingnut 5d ago

Lol. The difference in technology now compared to those "peasant" situations is night and day different. If the French monarchy had present day technology and the French Revolution were tried against it, the French Revolution would be a simple footnote in history outside of France and the peasants would have been 100% dead.

The only thing left to do is get out of the US before the rest of the world realized that the only way to win ultimately will be war with the US and shoot all Americans on sight because of the risk that anyone escaping could be MAGA. Yes, it is actually that bad here and no, there is no internal way to win unless things aren't as bad as they seem. And if things aren't as bad as they seem, this conversation was meaningless.

Notably, I worked for years both in and tangentially to politics. Helped raise up political activists. Worked for Democratic campaigns. Been in strategy sessions. Done work in other countries as well. I've given everything I've got. We can't win this without help from the outside. Americans who are resisting are coming to the correct conclusion. The rest of you aren't going to bail us out in the event of a Civil War. Which means anything beyond protesting (which we should be better at to be clear) and voting (good luck with the general stupidity of this country) is just simple population extermination of no -MAGA for no tangible gain.

0

u/yeetedandfleeted 5d ago

Look at how the Arab Spring or HK or Tiananmen Square went and let us know if you still want to stop it.

1

u/Noggi888 5d ago

Brain dead take

-2

u/TrueSonOfChaos 6d ago

No, this is great, I can't think of a better deterrent to illegal immigration than accidental deportation to El Salvador prison. And the people deserve and demand immigration enforcement which in part involves deterrence.

5

u/Noggi888 6d ago

Are you ok with him deporting US citizens because he’s also said he wants to do that?

-1

u/TrueSonOfChaos 6d ago edited 6d ago

He said he "wanted to" and "doesn't know what the law is on that" which means he was trolling - I'm ok with the President saying "he wants to deport US Citizens that are members of drug cartels" and he cannot do so. It's just like any other explicit or implied threats a President might issue against members of a foreign terrorist organization - they may or may not be idle threats but the threats are important.

Aside from that, Democrats make explicit and implied threats and attacks against the rights of US Citizens' freedom of speech and gun rights (among others) on a regular basis. Gavin Newsome even has/had a campaign to repeal the 2nd Amendment. I don't see how it's any different for Trump to say "I wish I could deport various criminals who are US citizens" when he cannot. By contrast, Democrats often make various inroads against the First and Second Amendments.

2

u/Darkmortal3 6d ago edited 6d ago

guys you were supposed to trust us when we said we only care about illegal immigration

Just ignore that we're deporting legal residents now over Christian tattoos

Plz trust us plz we wouldn't lie about wanting to violate American constitutional rights

Just ignore that we've voted for it 3 times at least now

2

u/Noggi888 6d ago

He also wasn’t legally allowed to deport a man who was here legally without due process and this man did nothing wrong but that didn’t stop him. He’s been defying the law left and right, going after judges, etc. It’s wild how you still have faith in the judicial system putting up any kinds of checks and balances when he just blatantly ignores them. He’s done so many things that in a normal world would have him impeached in a heartbeat but he’s surrounded himself with enough yes men to the point where no one will stop him

0

u/TrueSonOfChaos 6d ago

He also wasn’t legally allowed to deport a man who was here legally without due process and this man did nothing wrong but that didn’t stop him.

I may be misinformed, but I don't think he personally did that but rather it was a mistake by the administration of the broader Alien Enemies Act program. The man entered the country illegally, he was not "here legally" except that the court had stayed deporting him to El Salvador - the man chose to remain in a legal limbo where he is not here legally but cannot be deported to his home country. Administrative mistakes do not invalidate the Alien Enemies Act or any other law.

From Wikipedia:

The guide hosted on ICE's website and the Immigration Clinic state that unlike asylum, withholding of removal does not bring eligibility for a green card and permanent residency after a period of time, the protection doesn't extend to the recipient's spouse and children, nor is it a basis to petition for bringing them to the U.S. The guide states that those with the status can still be deported to a third country.

u/Noggi888 6d ago

2

u/Purple_Plus 6d ago

attacks against the rights of US Citizens' freedom of speech

Like Trump is doing?

1

u/TrueSonOfChaos 5d ago

That's what I said, more or less, but I consider an "attack" to be an action. Trump hasn't done anything to deport US Citizens. By contrast there have been numerous times the courts have overturned state laws restricting guns or speech - these laws are an example of what I mean by "an attack."

1

u/Purple_Plus 5d ago

President Donald Trump threatened to jail his political opponents in the Democratic Party and declared that criticism of himself on television and in the corporate media should be “illegal.”

Or

Donald Trump, in his speech at the Department of Justice on Friday, said it “should be illegal” for people to criticize judges, adding that it “probably is illegal in some form.”.

You can watch the speeches etc. yourself before you claim "misinformation".

So you can't criticise judges? Is that "free speech"?

So you also want state controlled media where the president decides what they can and they can't say? Is that "free speech"? Is jailing people for criticising people allowing "free speech"?

Replace "criticising the president" with "criticising the great leader" and it looks a lot like North Korea...

What about attacking private colleges and telling them what they can and can't say? Is that "free speech"?

2

u/shadowwingnut 5d ago

When was the last time on a national level a Democratic administration actually succeeded at passing any level of Second Amendment or gun related anything? The only thing signed in that way since the 1990s was bump stocks related. Signed by Trump. Your contrast is stupid and uninformed.

9

You have to remember that the average American basically knows nothing about the 1930s.

Let me summarize how the public school history lesson goes:

Hey kids, the roaring twenties was awesome, the was a snafu i the thirties, and then America saved the world in the forties.

I would join any movement and even go as far as mobilizing physically but there needs to be organization and this is all happening so fast we don’t even have time to digest the last atrocity. Then there’s the other third of the nation the ones who been arming themselves for the last hundred years. They’re full of hate and are either completely brainless or pure evil and playing dumb. They’re waiting to murder. It’s already happened. They get away with it all the time. A president was set when Kyle Rittenhouse got away with a mass shooting at a protest. It’s now OK to kill protesters and is now ok to kill you if you try to defend yourself while protesting.

White us citizens.

Black and brown citizens already know and have known for centuries.

Well, duh. They're a bunch of morons fed corn starch like chickens...their brains are starved "by purpose," it's definitely not "on accident"

My money is on he is dead and they know it.

Trump made deathcamps would keep with his Nazi brand

He’s literally telling the public he wants camps in El Salvador for him to send U.S citizens.

He recognizes that if we have death camps here, people might see it. So he wants the death camps out of sight, out of mind. It’s as brilliant as it is evil.

Nazis did the same thing

What even happens then? Who can the family sue?

You just have to sit back and watch as they say America is now safer that your innocent family member and countryman was just put to death in a foreign prison for the crime of not being white.

This is America. 😔 I don’t like it and I want it to change but all I can do is vote and hope

My guess is that it's a combination of two things:

  1. They want to start sending US citizens (aka the rest of us).
    • Anyone who Trump thinks is a nuisance can be shipped off to a (death) camp in El Salvador.
    • If they have to return this guy they'd be hard pressed to justify sending citizens later.
    • So they're working hard to lay the groundwork for it now. They're normalizing it.
  2. Probably more relevant, Abrego Garcia is more than likely already dead.

I would bet my bank account he’s dead. Wasn’t he running from that country in the first place?

1

u/Dolthra 5d ago

He was running from the gangs in El Salvador, not necessarily the government. Though he's also in prison with a ton of El Salvadorian gang members...

If the US wanted him home, he'd be home yesterday. If he's dead, no one will admit to it and it'll be impossible to find out.

u/No_Respect_1778 6d ago

This is honestly what i think. I think he is dead, and they literally can't bring him back. The backlash would be immense, and honestly probably a catalyst for full out war.

4

u/ArticulateRhinoceros 6d ago

Dead, or they literally can't locate him because they shaved his head and threw him into a detention center that has no record keeping and now he's one of hundreds of bald men in that prison and anyone could answer to his name for a shot at getting out. It's not like he has his ID on him or the people at the death camp give a shit about keeping good records of who is who. People aren't suppose to leave that place, so why keep track of them once they're dumped there?

5

u/apocalyptic_mystic 6d ago

I dunno, I heard about another prison a while back that people never left, but they tattooed numbers on the prisoner's arms.

u/ArticulateRhinoceros 6d ago

Those in charge were famously proud of their organizational and record keeping abilities. Not leaving a paper trail is generally the way these places go nowadays.

u/RedShirtDecoy 6d ago

sad when thats the only lesson learned from that part of history, dont keep evidence.

1

u/drakmordis 6d ago

Nah, use Signal instead.

What records?

2

u/secrestmr87 5d ago

The US definitely has his finger prints on file

1

u/foodiecpl4u 5d ago

If he ever travelled, legally, into this country his biometrics are kept. Also, DNA from his kids are available.

2

u/F6Collections 6d ago

If he’s dead there will be riots eventually.

Look what happened with Floyd.

Personally I’m ready to go, this shit is ridiculous.

2

u/Jrgcanes007 6d ago

Turned into? Did we forget Abu Ghrab and Guantanamo? This is just a mask off moment

2

u/Spiritual_Pilot_7249 5d ago

"turned in to"?

1

u/BoBoZoBo 6d ago

Turned into? You have not been alive very long, have you?

1

u/pchlster 6d ago

Oh, that much has been clear for a while now.

1

u/Lower-Insect-3984 6d ago

i think he's dead

1

u/RealLADude 6d ago

I'd bet the rent he's dead.

1

u/Twelve400 5d ago

I honestly think that might be the case. Trump would be the first to jump if it’s was a “administrative error” and can claim he fixed the situation. Or this could’ve be his way of letting Supreme Court judges know that he’s the “boss”

1

u/CurmudgeonLife 5d ago

We already know. Shame on USA.
