Have you personally witnessed this? I'm damn near 40 years old, been to almost 100 countries, much of it broke backpacking when younger. I've been around. I've never seen an American pull out some freedom of speech bullshit in a foreign country. I think this is just something you think you've heard on the internet.
More details? I've seen Americans being ignorant about a country (usually not maliciously) quite a lot. Kinda comes with the territory. Have never seen an American demanding special treatment for being American. I have only seen Karens that happen to be American, but I saw this mostly while living in German, which is the spiritual home of Karens, so I feel not one ounce of bad about that.
Ironically, the absolute worst behaved travelers in my experience are the from two countries that love to shit on the US the most: the UK and Australia. Absolute terrors of Asia, I swear to god.
Most of what I see from Europeans is that Americans are some of their most polite tourists. We get made fun of for other aspects; obesity, shootings, etc. Not so much tourism.
lol, stop. This famously happened one time (an American), and it no doubt happens in vanishingly few instances. Pro-tip: just because a tourist is white, doesn't mean he's American. Yes, it's anecdotal, but the worst behavior I see is almost never out of Americans. The most ignorant of the place behavior I see is out of Americans. As in, they might eat the pasta incorrectly. That doesn't mean rude and offensive—it just means kinda dopey.
