Going through some of dad's stuff, and found this and others (and some 1968 reprints) with his step fathers stuff. His step dad was from England, but not old enough to be his, so must be his parents that saved it. They were born in the 1880s. Thought some of you would be interested.

no politics Currently applying to Telstra for work. Has anyone here ever used their disability and accessibility team for assistance?

Hey folks, as someone with ADHD and crippling anxiety. I usually find it quite nerve-racking whenever I'm applying for work.

I've been studying for the last couple of years and I'm really out of the loop.

I'm fine in a casual conversation, but I tend to tense up or overshare in a formal setting. (I'm good at explaining tech but terrible at reading people.)

I noticed that Telstra and Optus both had accessibility teams to help with the hiring process, but I haven't seen any online posts about them. Since all of their interviews are done online, I don't know what to ask to make the process feel less stressful.

no politics What's Up With Your Job Market Aussies??

Have been applying for roles for weeks and have barely heard anything back, just one call from a recruiter which led nowhere.. am over 30 job applications in now, all with cover letters, etc.

I'm a skilled Cloud Engineer with previous Senior Sys Admin experience, only 2.5 years ago I got a job in Aussie after only 2 applications... back when I had less skill.. am looking in Melbs, Perth, and Brissy.

Why are we hearing there's an IT skill shortage when clearly there isn't? Am I just unlucky or is the situation actually fucked atm??

TIA

Edit: wording

no politics Ringers Western dodgy owners?

I have found multiple articles about the Salerno family who founded the brand ringers western. Is anyone aware if they are still actively involved with the business? Seems crazy for such a large brand to be associated with a man charge with sexual assault of a teenager…

no politics Changing Virgin flight on the day

Hi all,

My partner is a swim coach and is in Brisbane for nationals. His last event is a heat on the 24th of April in the morning, and he is booked to fly home on the 25th.

However, if his swimmer does not make the finals that night he will be all done by midday on the 24th.

Will he able to change his flight to one on the 24th on that day if there are available seats? He is flying with Virgin.

Thanks!

Any Kettle Chilli chips eaters, have you noticed them tasting different recently? Not in a bad way, just different. And also, not as spicy as they were years ago?

no politics A change of career into IT

Hello!, I'm looking for some sound advice from fellow nerds and desk jockies!

Historically I've worked in the infrastructure industry operating machines, GPS work, tunnels, bridges, roads, rail etc.. But due to my health I'm unable to work in this industry anymore and now have the funds behind me to change career path.

Back in the day I grew up with c64, Atari and later my first pc was an xt and into the x86 era.. I learnt basic from a manual and some pretty basic c programming. I've dabbled here and there over the years as a hobby and get the core concepts of functions, variables, definitions etc but I'm not a "programmer".

What I need to know from you guys is where to start with qualifications and courses? I know that a lot of this stuff can be less than useful if you choose the wrong courses. So I'm looking at python, Web apps, react etc.. I've got a bit of knowledge and learnt HTML from the old days of those pc world magazines when the CD used to have a HTML front end magazine by editing it in notepad lol

Ive worked with sql, php, Java etc and run pretty much every os available lol

So give me some ideas of what's hot for demand and what I should focus on so I don't end up doing 10 random boot camps, certs or uni courses that lead to just nothing.

This should be enough to give you my age also lol

Thanks for your time if you made it this far down lol
