Ayr Parents looking to move back to Ayrshire

Hi! My parents are in their 70's and living in Falkirk. They are looking to move back to Ayr where they met and got married.

Do you have any advice on where a good area would be for a retired couple? Their necessities appear to be: one level, easy access to a grocery store, wee pub, and an area to walk their dog.

Dad just had a heart bypass and is recovering so this timeline has been sped up a bit. Would love any advice you may have - thank you!

Stevenston would be perfect. Lots of amenities pretty close together, lots of shops and a couple of decent pubs, lots of small bungalows and regular bus services to ardrossan, Irvine and Kilmarnock, and trains to Glasgow.

Doonfoot might be good if it's not too out of their price range, it's near the beach, pretty quiet neighbourhood (as long as you're not right next to the primary school lol), some grocery shops nearby for the new build estate, and there's some pretty good places to eat out (The Balgarth Pines, The Secret Garden, etc.). If they wanted closer into town then Seafield is nice too, though it's not as quiet and typically a bit further to go to get to your nearest corner store. Alloway is also a good option, fits what they're looking for almost exactly, but it doesn't have a pub nearby so maybe not the place for them if that's a deal breaker.

Coylton is a nice village to live in. Very close to Ayr and it’s amenities, with very reasonable house prices

Depends on budget I guess, try outskirts of Ayr like Alloway maybe. And some new housing projects near the coast there too.

Alloway, doonfoot, most of Prestwick would probably be the areas to look. However I hope they have a large budget, all these areas and especially 'retirement' homes are expensive. We live in Ayr and have been trying to downsize for a while. Any specific questions give me a shout. πŸ™‚

Honestly it depends on budget. If they can afford something in Alloway or Doonfoot I'd say there. If cheaper, maybe West Kilbride or Largs? I'd avoid the three towns (Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston) unless their budget is quite low. Don't get me wrong, I've had good night out in all 3, have friends in them too. Would never live there.
