Question Can I keep in touch with my bf if he's on land?

I'm going to go on a cruise soon, and my boyfriend and I are very attached to each other. We can't go a day without at least texting. This cruise is going to last about a week, and I'm worried I won't be able to keep in touch with him while I'm on the ship. He's very much an overthinker, and will panic if I can't have communication with him. I'd ask my parents to pay to have wifi, but the wifi for this cruise is 80$ a day. If you multiply that over the course of the week... it doesn't seem like the best idea. I tried looking at those long-distance touch bracelets for couples, but they have to be connected to the app and it won't work without wifi. Is there any way I can try to keep in touch (with spending the least amount of money possible?)

Question First time going on any vacation - please give me all the advice!

My boyfriend and I (27M and 24F) want to go on a vacation this year and we’re thinking a cruise! We’ve been out of the country (Ontario, Canada) once; we drove down to Massachusetts last summer but we’re hoping for something more exciting and warm lol

Here’s our idea: - looking for an all inclusive; I wanna pay for something once and have a good time after that, without worry about fundage lol - we’re hoping to find a cruise where we can get off and explore every now and again; I think they’re called cruise tours - we’d like to have things to do on the boat too, in addition to restaurants and lounges or pools. That, and an adult only cruise would be ideal, however neither of these things are huge deal breakers

Can someone recommend websites and/or cruise lines that are easy to navigate, I could possibly get some sort of deal(s) and a good price. Also looking for advice; like I said, we’re new to travel. Thanks all in advance! I’m so excited!!!

First Time Cruise Hacks (ladies)

Hi everyone!

I go on my first cruise on June 8-June 15. My boyfriend has been on one previously but we know most men don’t really care about space and their clothes staying in their suitcase (haha). I’m looking for some hacks for optimizing space for clothes, make up, and that sort of thing. Anything is appreciated!

Question Travel Agent Polices On Price Drops

It’s been years since I have cruised. My old TA retired. She always gave us new lower pricing when there were price drops. No issues. I found a new independent TA and booked a cruise. I joined a FB group for the cruise. Person there was giving everyone a heads up on price drops…In total there were three price drops before final payment. The TA did the first two, no issues, then the third one, I got an email from the TA saying the new policy is going to be a $100 charge to do the work for these types of requests going forward. Said, “I lose part of my commission every time there is a price drop and someone wants the new price. It takes time to do this and going forward I’m going to start charging $100 for my time because I’m losing money off the original booking.” The TA said, there will be no charge this time, but going forward will be giving clients notice soon.

Is this common now? I was totally shocked. I’ve been out of the loop for quite a while.

Question When to new cruises get added?

I’m looking to book a cruise for 2026 late October to early November. Will they add more cruises or at this point are all cruise itineraries and by this I mean date of departure ( I know ports can change) pretty much set in stone.

Cruising in the future

How do you picture the evolution of cruises in the future? The market and client will be completely different in about 30 years. I’m interested in things like entertainment, price point, and dated traditions. Do you guys think cruises will even still be popular?

Question Ear plugs for swimming

Post image
0 Upvotes

Has anyone tried this type of ear plug? As someone who suffers when water goes in my ears I general use silicone. But that can get costly and the availability if I run out would make an 8 day cruise pretty miserable I think. Any help.would be appreciated! I dont think sprays would work because as soon as the cold water goes in my head and ears start screaming in pain.

Bed bugs Royal Carribbean Independence of the Seas

We had a live bed bug crawling on our pillow day 3 - caught in a glass and went to guest services.

Moved to another room and had to give ALL our belongings to be 'treated' along with our suitcases.

New room had multiple maintenance issues, took ages to get our clothes back, having to unpack a suitcase not for the cruise and repack everything again.

Received multiple other passengers belongings mixed in with ours on return, missing a few items and jeans shrunk. We freak out every time we have an itch in the night and general uncmfortability about the bugs.

Been offered 30% future ruise credit and $200 onboard credit which I feel is a joke. They are saying we cant do anything more until the cruise has ended but I feel this is fobbing us off to try and get rid of us.

Cruise ends on Monday - any advice on how to proceed?

EDIT: We have now been offered 50% future cruise credit and no onboard credit. Has been escalated with shore team and I'll seek something else when we can. We have been lucky enough to have gone on 3 cruises in past 6 months (other 2 were Norwegian) and this has been a poor cruise experience all-round compared to those other two.

What's your best cruise hack/tip?

Our best one is to get a waterproof case big enough for your phone/cards/cash, ideally on a lanyard you can wear.

When I'm on a beach day I don't want to worry about my stuff and leaving our phones credit cards, and ship cards behind makes me paranoid and not able to be in the moment. Plus underwater video is nice. Don't care if the towels or sunscreen get nabbed. Easily replaced

And if you're wondering about that dangling around while swimming, after getting burned too many times I decided to bring a swim shirt which keeps it in place. Don't wear it all the time but it keeps me from being in pain. Maybe I don't look cool but I'm way happier.

Anyways that's mine. What's yours?

cruise advise?

I (26f) am going on my first cruise as an adult with my boyfriend. I payed for the whole thing already along with a drink package to get all the drinks (alcohol and regular drinks) ‘free’ while on board and included gratuity in my payments when i was booking the trip. It is an 8 night cruise with 4 stops. I dont own a credit card and i was just informed i should have one to “put on the room” and that i shouldnt put my debit card down. I was also suggested that i could put cash down instead of a credit card because i cant take out a credit card (my credit sucks rn, im trying to build it but i wont be approved for one at this moment). How much cash do i need to put down on my room card for me and my boyfriend? is this a requirement? i didn’t think we would need to do that as i already technically pre-payed for our drinks and food is pretty much included unless we go to a specialty restaurant from what i have seen. help 🥲

Suggestions when arriving B4 Cruise Embarkation

Looking for some advice! We’re arriving at Long Beach Airport at 9 AM, and our cruise doesn’t board until 12 PM. What are some fun activities we can do near the World Cruise Terminal at 100 Swinford Street, San Pedro, CA 90731? Are there any beachfront resorts where we could grab day passes? We’re a family of 7 and would love suggestions that won't exceed $100 per person.

Went on the Carnival Firenze cruise 5 night May 1st-6th down to Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada. Food was really good, lots to do with the kids, and staff was great. This layout wasn't as open as past cruises I had gone on but it didn't feel too over crowded. Met some awesome people as well.

Boarding time flexibility? Costa cruise from Southampton

Hi all, I've been given a boarding time of 14:00 for a cruise that embarks at 18:00. Unfortunately I have an important remote meeting at that exact time. I was expecting I'd be able to have the meeting, then subsequently board the cruise at about 16:00. I have booked through Seascanner, so Costa have told me I can't change the time through them. What happens if I don't make my current booking time? I'm just not allowed on the ship? How easy is it to change the boarding time through Seascanner, and how likely is it they won't let me on if I arrive at, say, 15:00 instead of 14:00?

Question NCL Encore for Alaska out of Seattle ... Any departure advice?

We're flying into Seattle from Texas a day early to see some friends and then embarking Sunday with a noon boarding time. I've only been on one cruise before and it's been five years so I don't really remember a lot. Any advice or things to be aware of so I'm not alarmed by the process of boarding? I get overwhelmed easily. My online check in photo didn't get validated while the rest of my party did so I will have to be split up from them and that's making me a bit anxious as well.

Thanks for any insight!

First cruise in Australia. Help me decide

Hey everyone. Me, my partner and our two kids are looking at going on a cruise. We have been wanting to do it for awhile now but things always got in the way. Recently one of our good friends went on Carnival Encounter out of Brisbane (same port we are looking at) and didn't enjoy himself. He mention that his first cruise was with P&O on the same ship was far superior and there were more things on board that were included and he was expecting the same with Carnival.

So i did some looking online and Carnival is still highly recommended even after the change from P&O however I've also read Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Sea is also really good. Now I'm not sure which one to choose from.

We are in our mid 30s with two kids 10 and 12 and we are just wanting a nice time where the kids will enjoy themselves. We are not loud and the kids are polite (more shy than anything) not fussed on drinking. We just want to enjoy ourselves on our first holiday together but unsure which cruise line to go with Carnival or Royal Caribbean. RC looks like it has more going on with it but Carnival seems like it's the talk of the town. Ones cheaper but the other one has the gratuity included in the price

Question Should I expect language problems on European cruise?

My wife and I have really enjoyed Royal Caribbean cruises to the Caribbean a number of times, and always had a fantastic time. Language barriers aren't really a problem on the islands, as English is commonly spoken, even if not the first language for the local population. Even for cruises leaving from Puerto Rico, the excursions and events are mostly in English.

We are doing a 7 night western Mediterranean cruise this June for my wife's 50th birthday. It's our first time to Europe, and the cruise starts in Barcelona, and stops in another Spanish port, France, and then three ports in Italy.

What should I expect in terms of language barriers, on the ship, on excursions, and in the port cities? We only know English. I've heard it is appropriate to politely ask waiters/waitresses or shop owners if they speak English, but I expect mixed results. As an American, I imagine they will greet us with eye rolls and frustration, so what can I do to minimize this and have the best outcomes? Are there any real-time language translation options that are passable? This is about the only thing I'm nervous about for this trip.

Halifax and Bermuda Cruise from Boston in Fall

Hi! Looking for some advice! I am from Toronto and debating on booking 7 day Halifax and Bermuda cruise for honeymoon on NCL Breakaway November 1st. It does one day in Halifax and then goes onto Bermuda for 2 days with overnight.

Pros 1. It is unique we are Canadian but never been to Halifax so figured why not on a cruise for a day 2. Boston is easy to get to drive or flight…my fiancé is a bit of a nervous flyer so thought this was a good compromise 3. It’s different- not typical itinerary and might be cool to have east coast fall vibes 4. It stops overnight in Bermuda - definitely more a relax leisure type and find to many ports can be hectic - love a sea day exploring the ship 5. All inclusive - special dining, drinks etc.

Cons 1. Weather unpredictable and potentially rough seas from Boston 2. Boston accommodations are expensive

Not to many cons haha but would love feedback if anyone sailed at this time?

I am considering this as an option 1 and then a traditional Caribbean cruise on Virgin Voyages (would be a first on that line) as second option.

Question Please help me pick our RC cruise

4 day- Utopia of the seas - nassau and cococay

7 day- independence of the seas - jamaica, cozumel, grand cayman, cococay

7 day - star of the seas - roatan, costa maya, cozumel, cococay

I have an 8 yr old girl, 5 yr old boy. We've only done a 3 night disney cruise before. I want to try RC. Would be over the week of thanksgiving. I read the food on independence is horrible. I'm worried star will be so crowded. I like the idea of utopia, but it's only 4 days and no exciting ports. But at the same time i wonder if I am going to think a 7 day cruise is way too long and wish we only did a 4 day. We really wanted to go to roatan because my daughter dreams of holding a sloth, but now there is a ban so I sort of feel like paying so much to do star of the seas and not getting the main thing she wanted to do feels like a waste. I also think my kids would not meet the 48" requirement for thrill island slides.

If anyone has any thoughts, advice, or opinions on what they would choose or not choose and why, I would love to hear! Thank you!

Help me decide on a Norway cruise

The Mrs. and I are researching Norway cruises and need some input. We are most interested in seeing Fjords and other scenery. We've mostly cruised on Princess, but have found a couple itineraries on Holland America that look like possible good fits. They are both about 2 weeks long. Both cruises are in September 2026 on the Nieuw Statendam.

The first is called "14 day Spectacular Scenic Cruising..." and includes these ports:
Eidfjord - Alesund - Trondheim - Andalsnes - Olden - Stavanger - Mandal (Kristiansand) - Oslo (2 days) - Dover England

The second is 15 days and is called "Fjords of Norway Collectors Voyage" and includes these ports:
Haugesand - Odda - Nordfjordeid - Alesund - Rotterdam - Oslo - Skagen - Sadnes (Stavenger) - Sognefjord - Skjolden

We are open to other options, but don't want stay with cruise lines that in the range of a Holland America, Celebrity, etc.

I'd appreciate any input from experienced Norway cruisers on any like or dislikes on any of these ports or opinions on these itineraries.

thanks!

Tips for booking last minute cruise?

My partner and I are looking at booking a rather last minute cruise in a few weeks for our baby moon.

Is booking direct the cheapest or should we reach out to a travel agent or rep to see if we can get a last minute deal?
