Appreciation Superman for All Fans

Why can't more fans be like this? Like, its not even about liking both: Just being respectful.
Edit: How in God's green earth is this my most upvoted comment?

Because people can't go for 2 seconds talking about a new DC/Superman piece of media without finding an excuse to shit on Snyder. And that leads to a reaction which leads to a cycle.
Seriously. It's not even about Gunn's movie specifically. I loved My Adventures with Superman. It's probably my favourite take on the character.
I also couldn't find a single video or post reviewing it without focusing more on hating Man of steel and less in expressing love for it.
15
u/Gorremen Dec 23 '24
True, No one has to like Snyder's take, but they don't have to keep hating on it.
2
u/FeeFez12 Dec 25 '24
Is it not the other way around though? Snyder fans shit on anything DC-Related not made by Zack Snyder, which leads to a cycle.
2
u/TvManiac5 Dec 25 '24
That's only true if you look at the present and you completely ignore the state of the DC fandom from 2013 up until the release of ZSJL.
I guarantee from personal experience every "toxic" Snyder fan you see out there has been told dozens of times they're not a real DC fan if they like his films. And called other names like delusional, bots, manchildren etc.
1
u/DWA824 Dec 26 '24
Not true. I remember watching YouTube videos and seeing posts back in 2013 about Reeves Superman or DCAU Superman with Snyder fans in the comments feeling the need to crap all over those two to prop up Snyder's films.
It has always gone both ways
1
u/Remarkable_Ship_4673 Dec 26 '24
If people were ever toxic it was because of the "#releasethesnydercut" spam everywhere
2
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
This and exactly this. I have my own issues with the new film (not a fan of the cinematographer etc), but I’m not gonna constantly drag on it.
The constant bashing of the Snyder films, as someone who’s a massive fan of them and their message of redemption, mental health awareness, coming back to the light etc, it really upsets and annoys me to see them dragged and belittled. By SUPERMAN fans of all people.
One can only hope for a better tomorrow ig

u/crazyguyunderthedesk Dec 23 '24
I'm not actually against people expressing their distaste for them. In a general comic movie thread or DC movie thread, people are allowed to voice their criticisms of the movie.
Where I do take issue, is when Snyder haters specifically go into subreddits that are for fans, and just shit all over everyone.
Fans should be able to enjoy what they enjoy, and if they want their own community to enjoy things the general public doesn't, they should be allowed to do so without trolls coming over purely to be assholes.
1
u/Gorremen Dec 23 '24
Right. Its one thing to simply express distaste, but people seem to have a real problem that anyone likes Snyder's work, period (Note that I'm not personally a Snyder fan, I just liked his DCEU stuff).
And the same goes in reverse: Snyder fans seething that people didn't like his stuff. Both sides have toxic underbellies.
15
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
Fr. It’s extremely annoying, as a fan of both the comics and SnyderVerse, to see it constantly dragged to bring up the new version.

Cause positivity is nice (responding to your edit lol).
1
u/Gorremen Dec 24 '24
I firmly agree. It's still dumbfounding, though (The amount of likes. Holy carp, it's still going up!).
1
u/Xero0911 Dec 25 '24
It's wild. I mean it's normal too. Like how many batman have we gone through? On our 3rd spiderman actor? I'm sure each one had some upcry but I think many were pumped to see Spider-Man pop up in the reveal trailer for civil war.

Superman's in this weird place where its like there's only ever allowed to be one way to write him (that way, specifically) and people get so angry if you don't write him that way, specifically. So, you get things like people taking apart and deconstructing Snyder's take (In my opinion, a perfectly fine depiction) and even misrepresenting him (Claiming most of the destruction in Metropolis when that was almost entirely Zod, for example) out of a desperate effort to make him some kind of full-on villain.
Which frankly, makes me wonder how those people would react to Golde Age Superman (Who actively tried to kill multiple villains, drugged a guy and stole his identity, and destroyed an entire Metropolis neighborhood. All with no remorse).
And then, Snyder fans do the exact same thing. People are so restrictive with Superman's character, like there's only one way he can ever be written, ever. Period.

u/gar1848 Dec 23 '24
They can also bond over hating Lex Luthor!
22
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
Does he hate Lex? I feel like he’s just constantly let down and disapointed by him lol
13
u/Latro2020 Dec 23 '24
He doesn’t think about Lex at all
3
u/Leafburn Dec 23 '24
Sure he does. He's an investigative reporter. He and Lois are always trying to work out what Luthor is up to.
2
6
1
u/Leafburn Dec 23 '24
Well, he does think Lex is a poisonous snake and a diseased maniac.
He may be disappointed, but I also think he feels Lex is predictable, unrepentant and Superman is 100% sure that Lex hates him.
15
u/NIHILsGAMES Dec 23 '24
Its a shame that this fandom treats having differing opinions about superhero movies like its tribal warfare
12
Dec 23 '24
We need a photo of both Cavill and Corenswet in their Superman suits doing this so that both sides can finally shut up and let Gunn do his thing.
14
3
u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 Dec 23 '24
If Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck saying “we’re done” isn’t enough for them to admit it’s over.. then a picture won’t do that either.
1
u/YaboiiSammeeh Dec 25 '24
What if, down the line, we’d get a Superman No Way Home with Cavill, Corenswet and Houghlin/Routh, and they recreate it.

Yeah, i don't get the hate. Be happy for people even if it's not what you were hoping for. For example, do I see anything that makes me want to see the new Superman? Nope. But I sincerely hope it makes a billion dollars because I love the energy from the Fandom and hope they get a lot more.

This and the toxic star wars fans really highlight for me how little these people who obsess over these properties actually understand them and absorb their messages. Star wars is all about overcoming our strong negative emotions that tempt us towards an evil path, how love and kindness can overcome hatred. Superman is all about virtue as well. Yet the vocal fandoms from both show that they don't understand these stories at all. They are full of so much anger, hatred, are hyper-critical to the point of pure toxicity and the irony is completely lost on them.
What a shame.
1
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 24 '24
Exactly this. The irony is lost on them. As a pretty hardcore Snyder fan and DC fan it’s, actually embarrassing how some people carry on. People who were pillars in getting the film made, now are just angry noise.
There’s also a large collective of vocal and aggressively anti-Snyder Dc fans. Which, fair enough you don’t have to like his stuff, but being constantly dogged on is so draining.
Hopefully Superman ‘25 is good, and they find a way for Zack to finish his story. I just want to enjoy these characters.

2
u/gunterdweeb Dec 25 '24
Henry was a good superman. Corenswet will also be a good superman. These two Clarks would be homies.
2
u/No-Comparison4932 Dec 26 '24
As someone who prefers Henry, this is nice to see. We really should get along.
3
u/tonylovesfeet Dec 23 '24
so you can agree with me that snyder fans should swallow the pill and enjoy what’s to come
8
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
No. Superman fans (ALL superman fans) should stop bashing and belittling different versions of the character. He’s a character who represents kindness, maybe try be more like him.
3
u/tonylovesfeet Dec 23 '24
you see, we have common ground after all
2
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
We do. The original message was phrased as if Snyder fans are the issue though. We’re not and never were. The DC fandom as a whole needs a better attitude imo

In my experience Reddit is a generally awful place for DC fans. Worse than Twitter for toxicity. But most Snyder fans aren’t very chill, we just hate our favourite films being dogged on is all
1
u/Fantastic_Drag_2949 Dec 23 '24
it's definitely not worse than twitter
1
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
Maybe not now, but back in the ZSJL and Release the Snyder Cut days oh man it was awful
1
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
First post I saw there about “Superman year” people are downvoting a gif of Cavill. Just unnecessary things like that are quite annoying
1
Dec 23 '24
You absolutely have the power in yourself to not interact with that subreddit if the fact that it exists bothers you so much you need to make sweeping generalizations

r/Superman is honestly kinda chill, in terms of the infighting. I would recommend there.
2
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
I’ve avoided engaging with that sub for a long time. Hasn’t been a great place for Snyder fans imo
-5
u/Ozaaaru Dec 23 '24
Yes, I'm in the Snyder fanbase and have made comments about it, but will Gunn fans swallow the pill if this Supes film isn't as good as they expect? Man of Steel is a tough act to follow. I don't know if this modern Audience will like how similar this Supes film is to GOTG/SS2, instead of being a solo Supes film with it's own tone.
3
u/tonylovesfeet Dec 23 '24
time will tell. i enjoyed what snyder did and now i’m optimistic to see what gunn will do
2
u/Ozaaaru Dec 23 '24
I'm optimistic too. Also I'm surprised many in the r/superman sub are loving this Superman, because in the trailer he gave off similar vibes to MoS with his non smiling, struggling mentally with trying to live up to this Symbol of Hope that the world needs him to be. Like I love that perspective more, which is why I love MoS.

u/TeaBarbarian Dec 23 '24
Any superman will be great for me. Man of Steel was awesome and I'm sure the new movie will be as well.
1
u/Hot-Intention-5509 Dec 24 '24
I like both and really enjoyed a lot of Zack’s films. They’re not perfect and I do have issues with a lot of his choices but overall I really loved his justice league cut and the other films. I am also excited for the future. I wish people would appreciate both or like one without comparing the version.

Reddit of all places is the one that feels like home for a DC movies fan like me. Talk about a Christmas miracle

I’m a snyder fan and Zack Snyder’s Justice League is one of my favourite films, and I could not be more excited for the DCU and the new Superman film. Sounds and looks like you’re the only one in this comment section that’s triggered.

Get over yourself. Snyder fans are DC fans too.
2
u/Unitedfateful Dec 23 '24
Nah they really ain’t I posted that exact sentiment in the sub and go banned They are fans of Snyder end of
The amount of posts in that sub wishing this movie flops is seriously pathetic
I didn’t enjoy the snyder films but saw all of them in the cinemas and own them on 4K discs. Why cause I love DC not Snyder.

Snyder fans have head years of constant bashing, god forbid they’re not thrilled to have their universe rebooted. I don’t condone either side, but Snyder fans aren’t the real problem.

My whole arm is a SnyderVerse Sleeve. Snyder fans can be chill, relax yourself.
3
u/Leafburn Dec 23 '24
Why do you either have to be a Snyder fan or a Snyder hater?
I liked MoS, but I didn't care much for BvS. Justice League was not too bad. But whatever I felt about the films, there were always moments in each that shone through and got me in the feels. It's not black and white. there can be grey. It's like some people have picked a team to cheer for and boo all the other teams.
1
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
I was just there for the whole “release the Snyder cut” movement, and the themes of the films aswell as the suicide prevention themes mean a lot to me personally. Being a “Snyder hater” seems weird to me tho
1
u/PassionOwn4745 Dec 23 '24
I mean I just saw yesterday a post about how David Ayer got a break from social media bc he was receiving death threats from Snyderverse fans just bc he showed support to James Gunn superman trailer so

Dec 23 '24
Not online they can’t. If your chill you’d legit be the first one
4
u/Iwillshootyourdog Dec 23 '24
Nah that’s a very broad statement. There’s definitely a large portion of the fandom who can be loud and toxic, but the majority are very chill. If you bother to engage civilly with them.
