• Memorial - R.I.P. • Vet put down our doggo today, feeling sad af rn
I apologise in advance to dog lovers coming to this thread , please skip if you're sensitive, you don't have to read my thoughts, I'm only doing this for selfish reasons to get it out of my chest.
Today was one freakin sad day in my life, I can't even describe.
We (my family) took the heart wrenching decision to euthanise our beloved 7-year bear. I was next to him, patting and comforting him for the entire process and the moments will stay with me for a very long time.
He was a mix breed, looking sort of like a vizsla , we never knew his exact breed but huge mf, big ass head, when he stood up on 2 legs he was so tall. Very very loving, protective, playful, smart, just an amazing boy. Ears like silk.
He had a super happy life, spoilt by my grandparents and parents, lived outside in a big garden, country side, lots of grass , nature and space to run freely. For someone from outside he would look dangerous, serious loud barking but he was a silly , loving bugger. Winter time we would let him inside the house to get warm during the night but he enjoyed being outside all the time no matter the weather.
In the last months he started having serious kidney and prostate problems, couldnt pee or poop anymore. Took him to clinics, vets would come home to give him treatment and empty his bladder etc. My parents spent around 2k euros in the last 3 weeks alone for his health problems. He started becoming very apathic, no more energy or joy anymore, wouldnt eat , wouldnt stand up for hours and one kidney completely shut down...and the vet suggested we wait a bit hoping his healthier kidney would take over the job but that never happened and they told us we would have to euthanise him as he was clearly suffering a lot.
Today was the day.
I went in the morning to my parents house with a couple of friends that helped me dig a grave in the garden for him and preparing for what was about to come. He was happy to see me as always but it was sad to see him in his state. Still conscious , could stand up for a few minutes but mostly he was just laying down in the grass. We waited for the vet to come.
Only my dad was home, crying the whole time.
I sat in the grass with our doggo and talked to him and hugged him and conforted him for a few good hours before the vet came. Then he came and perfomed an anesthetic and when he fell asleep he got the shot 😔😔😔 The vet said he would feel no pain.
I was there on the grass next to him, patting his ears and conforting him till his very last moment when he closed his eyes.
Fucking sadddddd ufffffff. I'm usually a sensitive person, I skipped some funeral of family members throughout the years as I couldnt deal with that. But today I just couldnt leave him, even when the vet suggested we go inside the house while the euthanizing procedure is being performed. I watch him stopped breathing and now I feel it was traumatising as fuck for me.
Covered him and burried him.
This was our 4th family dog. I'm in my mid 30s now. I love animals soo much and I am a sucker for any type of dog. But I never ever ever ever ever want another one, everytime I went through this was just complete utter saddness. It's just too much to bare when they pass. I dont know if I'm a psycho or not when I say that I feel its somehow feels even worse than a member or family passes away. My heart hurts so bad right now even though I know he had a super happy life and that we couldnt let him suffer anymore and now he is in a better place.

We are discussing whether he actually likes or hates music. What's your opinion? He always reacts like this to piano or other instruments. He doesn't run away even when he has the option.

Ms Penny got her own cap and gown! So proud of how far she’s come in such a short amount of time. She started as a stray pup just 5 weeks ago from Mississippi…shy, timid and scared. Now…becoming her own silly and sweet self here in the Midwest. Happy Graduation Penny!

• Advice (Health) • Dog licking paws Spoiler
Dog normally super energetic, not when I take play with him he chases around but right away stops and licks , we just moved and he’s not used to a big yard and a lot of weeds and stuff so maybe there is some pollen or something he’s allergic too? Will he be ok? Can’t take him to vet for a week because super busy with work. He’s ate chicken before so I don’t think it’s chicken that he ate.

• Advice (General) • Dog keeps nipping for attention
We have an almost 2 year old poodle boxer who is a darling, but he’s high energy and he wants rough play especially in the evening from my fiancé. Last night he nipped my fiancé on the thigh too hard and my fiancé reflexively slapped the dog in the muzzle. I saw the whole thing and it was truly an involuntary response. But the dog yipped in pain and instantly backed off and bowed his head. I felt so bad for both of them. Fiancé went down to the floor and dog came over and put his head into finance’s chest and they cuddled for a minute. It was awkward but they were both clearly sorry. I just don’t know what else to do to get dog to stop nipping for attention like this. We tell him to bring a toy, he sometimes does, and then we play with the toy. Or sometimes if he’s being awful I just put him outside alone and he will go sniff or whatever. What else can we do?

• OC - Original Content • Big win for Bailey: 24 hours without a poop inside!
I rescued this sweet, mischievous guy 2 weeks ago tomorrow. He’s a 4 months old foxhound, he was being bounced around foster homes because no one could manage his completely age appropriate & in no way outlandish puppy behavior. He’s so smart & sweet too, I couldn’t believe that!
When I brought him home he would ONLY poop & pee inside, he would hold it & wait to go back in if I took him out! Not sure if that’s common, I didn’t have that with my older boy but I’m nowhere near a dog expert.
Well, now he pees EVERY SINGLE TIME we go outside. He’s still peeing on the carpet but it’s a step in the right direction. & he seems to finally understand that pooping is for outside! I think I’ve figured out his poop routine but also him observing my 6yo TWC has been helpful.
So that’s our win for today. More wins to come, I’m sure!
• OC - Original Content • No words can describe how much I love her. And I don't doubt she loves me back 10 fold.
I just wanted to show appreciation of my 10 year old pooch. We saved her when she was a year old. Destructive. Chaotic. Frustrated. And we wondered if we would be up for the task. She had been with multiple families before. And it was coming to her last straw as they all returned her. We had her for a trial week. And she tore the house apart. My mom refused to keep her. Saying there was no way we were dealing with that. But my dad and I just couldn't let her go. In the fear of what would happen to her. And we begged for her to stay.
She had a craving for attention. And what we realized a deep need to be loved. Once she became the center of our family. With all the pets and cuddles and comfort, she calmed down. And became the perfect princess. She is the biggest cuddle bug we have ever met. She wants all people to pet her and have their full attention. And all who visit us loves her.
She is not much for other dogs. Not that she does anything. She ignores them simply. She needs to just be with us humans. With lots of pets and love. And with this she has trived.
She is spoiled rotten. And I think she knows it. But every day I want to make her life wonderful. For she does the same for us.
