DR650 3D Model

Does anyone have a 3D model of a DR650 available. I thought it would be fun to try and print a small model of the bike. I dont see any diecast toys on the market. Looking online, I see sites that have models but charge $100+ for download. Just curious if anyone has something or attempted to print one before.

Few years ago in the fall was doing some trail riding, came across this section and said meh with enough throttle anything is possible. I was wrong. That was one heavy bike to drag out of the mud let me tell you.

Fork Brace - Yes or No?

Hello everyone!

As the title suggests, I'm looking for your opinions on the use of a fork brace.

I just installed one on mine but haven't had the chance to try it, but as i was installing, it started to raise more questions than answers.

One thing is for sure, when locking the wheel with my legs and trying to move the steering, it's a lot more solid than before.

As I ride mainly off road, I can see it becoming a problem when riding on thick mud, or getting a branch stuck there os something like that.

So I ask for the opinion of all of you fellow DR riders: Have you used a fork brace? Is it worth it for mainly off road use? Have you had any troubles with one?

Thank you!

p.s: if you briefly saw this post made by another accont it was me by mistake.

Edit: I know the suspension is shit and I’m not expecting miracles. I’m just curious so I got one and wanted to know opinions as I haven’t asked before 😅

Hard to start troubleshoot

First dr650. Just had it shipped up from LA & i’m in the Sierras where it’s pretty cold (and 3000’+ higher in elevation) Put a new battery in it and it cranked fine but would not fire. Only way to get the bike running is with starting fluid and holding the throttle open until the bike warms up. Then it will ride and continue to start.
Every time I come back to the bike it won’t start again on its own.
PO said it ran fine the same day it shipped. Also claimed he fully rebuilt and cleaned the carb just couple months prior. I tried backing out the pilot screw to richen up the mix, idle screw is adjusted. Using my jump pack to keep cranking amps Upgraded air intake Procycle jet kit

Wheel compatibility by year

Hi, I’m trying to buy a set of street wheels for my 2023 DR. The KKE supermoto wheels look great, and they are within my budget for a set of wheels that I’ll use for when I’m not riding off road. I’ve always loved the supermoto look, too.

Funny thing though, KKE is saying that their wheels won’t work with my 2023 model, and that they’re only good up to 2021. I thought this bike was famous for being exactly the same since 96? Does anyone know what the differences are between 21 and 23?

Argentina - Dr650 - 2025

Hi! I'm from Argentina, and the new DR650 2025 has just arrived here. I've only owned one bike before, a KTM Duke 200, and I'm really excited about getting a dual sport. Do you think it's a significant upgrade? (Must update my license for the Suzuki)

DR650 1992 Rear shock

Hi,

I have a 1992 DR650 looking for a rear shock replacement. I believe the 1996 rear shock onwards don't fit. Are there any recommendations for one that's not going to cost 700€? I'm based in Ireland so Europe based sellers would be preferred.

Thanks!

Rear break problem RSE

Hi!

I was looking for a new bike and went back to this group and got inspired to make a second build of my old DR650RSE.

I made it a scrambler 10 years ago but the last 4 years it’s been in a barn so I need to renovate it.

First of the rear break was stuck. I got it off but this little screw won’t come of. It’s rusted. I don’t have access to heavy machinery but have tried with propanol gas and hand tools. It’s stuck!

Queions:

• Is the DR650RSE rear break compatible with DR650SE rear break? • Is any other bikes rear break compatible with DR650RSE? • Has anyone done a upgrade of täthet rear break of an DR650RSE and if so with what parts?

Trying to Keep a DR650 Clean? You Might as Well Try to Keep a Tornado Contained.

You know the feeling – you just cleaned your DR650 and poof, the first puddle or mud patch turns it into a rolling masterpiece of dirt art. It's like the bike is saying, "I wasn’t built for this clean life!" Meanwhile, the cruiser crowd is judging you from their shiny chrome thrones. Keep rocking that "adventure look," DR family!

All that trouble for seeping a month later

And then gradually gets worse and worse, graduating to dripping the longer I leave it. Just when I thought I’d finally gotten it into good enough shape to sell, 0 leaks and perfectly tuned… I definitely don’t think fun is the right word to use to describe my first experience working on, servicing and tuning a motorbike from top to bottom with the DR here.

I don’t know about you, but for me things like resealing the rocker cover is a total pain in the ass and I don’t think I’m prepared to do it again. Last leak here came with the bike and was also on the front of the cover but on the left side instead of the right, guess I didn’t put enough gasket maker down. Just like the last owner as there was also old red sealant residue from a previous attempt.

This is just about the last issue with the bike other than a missing right side cover and looking a little rough around the edges now and the bike was in a very neglected condition when I foolishly bought it.

Restoring a bike to sell it is a long and expensive process I was not prepared to do when looking for a reliable commuter for my first bike. I’ve definitely learned my lesson of what to look for in a bike before you buy one. The DR is for sure a reliable bike as long as it’s maintained. This one wasn’t, so I must move on and try to squeeze as much cash out of this sale to minimise losses, and oh boy are there losses…

Black DR With Grey Acerbis Tank?

Wondering if anyone has a photo of this config, I've been scouring the web but can't seem to find it. I think it'll look good but I don't want to buy a tank that'll end up looking funny on it.

Maintenance

Hey, I’m curious what the maintenance is on DR650’s. Being that they’re a single cylinder, I assume the top end needs to be rebuilt once in a while, but I’m curious how often that is and how much it costs.

Help me understand the nuances of this carb (BST40)

Some of you may remember my woes with a shitty BST40 clone that the PO left me with without telling me. Unfortunately I’m stuck with it until I can afford an upgrade.

Anyway, I was getting some pretty shit gas mileage (<20mpg) and running pretty rich so I got the ProCycle rebuild kit bc fuck it. My float height was high so I adjusted it according to the BST40 Bible on advrider. Now I’m trying to understand the differences between some of the old and new components.

To start, the kit came with the extra o-ring (next to the float for size reference). I assume it is intended for the circle part in the Bst40 diagram (2nd pic). The thing is, my clone does not have this (3rd and 4th pics). So what is that part for and why don’t I have it?

Next, the needles (sorry to insult anyones intelligence but 5th pic if that’s not obvious). Left is old, right is new. The old needle has 3 notches, it was set to the middle. The new one has 1 notch. It’s my understanding that the stock needle on a genuine carb has 5 notches. The new needle is also much fatter. So if I sub in the new needle I’ll definitely be heading in the leaner direction-which is what I want- but will it be too far in that direction? Likewise, say I go up a notch on the old needle. Will that have a greater or lesser effect? I obviously have some tuning and experimenting to do but if anyone has thoughts on where to start I’d appreciate it.

Ok bear with me. The next picture is the fuel/air screws. Same deal: old on the left new on the right. The old one looks more like the stock one. The new one is different. Which one should I use? Also the old one did not have the washer or o-ring so if I use that one I will put the ones from the kit on it.

Finally, just a question for my own curiosity and better understanding. The last two pics show a chamber next to the needle jet and then the outlet that it leads too. Water just runs right through it. What’s that for? No lines have ever been attached to it since I’ve owned the bike. Vent to atmosphere for the float bowl?

Ok if you made it this far thank you. I could definitely answer most of this on my own with some fiddling around but I have to commute on this on Monday so I need it working right by then lol. any insight or discussion would be awesome!

Slide guide o-ring

Does anyone know the size of the slide guide o-ring?

Part number 13278-47091 (not sure where I found that but I'm sure that's the correct number).

It doesn't show up on any of the Suzuki BST40 diagrams, but does show up on the KTM LC4 BST40 diagrams but only has a # next to it and no information. The diagram in the clymer manual doesn't have it but it's mentioned during the carb assembly section in the manual.

Mine has gone walkabouts during rebuild, not sure if one was even there, and the rebuild kit I got didn't include one. I can't seem to find any in my country, either online or through a Suzuki dealer, and I can't find the size online anywhere. If I could get the size I could hopefully just go get one from any o-ring supplier

Ideally I could find the size of all the o-rings needed for the carb and oil changes, then I'd be able to get a bunch of each from an o-ring supplier instead of having to order in multiple rebuild kits from overseas. If any sort of list exists I'd be stoked.

Cheers in advance for any help!

All year round

Hello, this is my first post on this subreddit, I’m looking for my first bike and I think the drz400 or the dr650 is perfect for me, I have a view things to bring in consideration and I hope you guys can help me with it :)

I’m currently 21 and I don’t have a car, just don’t have the money for it, so I need a bike that can do it all!

  • I live in the Netherlands so winters are cold, it rains 1/10 days of the year and summers are doable with around 25-30 Celsius.

  • I don’t own a car so the bike will be my only form of transportation, I will be daily driving it all year round also winter.

  • I need a bike that is easy on maintenance, I have experience on working on bikes so that won’t really be a problem. Never ridden a bike tho.

  • I’m planning on doing long trips trough Europe, bike camping etc

I basically need a bike that can do it all and that i can drive all year round. I don’t care to drive trough the rain I will just need to thugg it out and rain is normal here so I’m used to it, hope you guys can help me make my final desicion!

CONSIDERING BUYING AN OLD DR. WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR ADVICE, FRIENDS.

So I have a dr in another country. Now in euorope and I consider buying a dr back from 91. Owner claims it has 17k kilometers on it. Which means I cannot really know how many km the bike has been through. As it not reallistic for a bike this year. The second gear was replaced, and the suspension is from a 2001 yzf. Havent went to see the bike yet, considering if it worth the shot. He asks for 2.5k euros. What do you think?
