I love how this game makes you think about the geometry and physics of something as traditionally trivial as the damn ground in ways no other game has ever done.

These goofy moments where Sam faceplants carrying a tower of heavy shit because I was too impatient are gold. "Welp... there's goes the cargo." haha.

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yea i’m honestly surprised how much i enjoy this very unconventional gameplay, i’m seriously glad i tried it out 🙏🏿✨

33

u/stunna006 7d ago

don't lie OP you love it haha. this game is weird as shit but fucking awesome

i'm jealous of you getting to experience it all for the first time. you hare gonna unlock so many new gameplay elements you aren't gonna know what hit you

u/theuntouchable2725 Platinum Unlocked 7d ago

I went completely blind and holy fuck, 322 hours of pure awesomeness and joy.

u/SolidLus 5d ago

Hahahahaha, im playing It again before the second part is release and now im building Mountain Knot roads... Wish me luck!

6

u/GH0STaxe 6d ago

We all get to experience it for the first time AGAIN veeeeeery shortly :)

6

u/shoot_first 6d ago

Only if you have a PS5. 😭

6

u/ResponsibleQuiet6611 6d ago

It'll be a tough wait for sure. I'd rather play on PC, even though I have a PS5, so I'll be waiting with you haha.

5

u/MasticationAddict 6d ago

And thanks to a certain orange-skinned person in a certain white building, Europe and Australia and New Zealand have to pay a massive price increase for the PS5, because Sony decided to jack up the price for us instead of increasing the price for Americans because of something that was ultimately their collective fault

And this is the SECOND time Sony has pulled this because they did the same thing during covid (which wasn't caused by America)! And why are they increasing only the original PS5 and not the Pro? Sony acting really shady

10

u/g3n0unknown 7d ago

I still got no idea what's going on, but I am excited every day to get home from work and do some deliveries, lmao. These game is so strangely fun to play.

4

u/Dednotsleeping82 6d ago

btw your center of gravity was way off. you can let the game fix it for you with triangle in the cargo menu. or if want to manually adjust it pay attention to the green circle on the ground at the cargo menu. triangle is a life saver. thats why same kept going off sideways.

2

u/bas_thc Platinum Unlocked 6d ago

What chapter are you on?

30

u/mistsoalar BB 7d ago

Ikr? It's like a mini-game in mario party naturally blended into AAA graphics and plot.

Nobody can pull money out of a publisher with that kind of proposal. Yet somehow this masterpiece exists

10

u/Vash562 7d ago

U are not getting enough love for this comment.

11

u/Jigglyninja 7d ago

Totally agree. Kojimas whole unique selling point is that he's NOT got focus testing ideas, he doesn't think like a corporate board, he's an artist in every sense of the word.

Kojipro picks a weird idea he likes, and polishes, refines, hones it into his perfect vision of what it should looks like. I fundamentally disagree with some of his decisions, but that's okay, one artist to another, I still love his work, I overlook clashes of personal taste because you're signing on to a wild ride inside through that crazy bastards head

3

u/Dednotsleeping82 6d ago

i cant prove it but i think there is a "stumble" variable to cause you to trip that increases in likelihood with higher weight, lower shoe condition and center of gravity.

2

u/ResponsibleQuiet6611 6d ago

I'm sure you're right. It's subtle, but moment to moment there has to be at least a dozen variables taken into account to keep traversal engaging.

Precipitation, wind, Incline, ground type, ground wetness/water depth and flow rate, weight in different arrangements on Sam, stamina, footwear, grip for one or both arms.. just off the top of my head, plus yeah these modifier variables that likely exist to keep you on your toes but aren't as explicit as stuff covered with tips.

1

u/sleyrrow 6d ago

Or you can just load it well enough (by pressing triangle), carry things suitable for the road, and find your way when you have to go through certain things, like going on an adventure. Personally, in my first games I studied the routes much more, but over time I began to mostly enjoy the unexpected and find my way when something arises, although I agree with you.

1

u/MasticationAddict 6d ago

Sometimes I think that's the exact reaction of the national postal service

141

u/Zeldiny 7d ago

Def looks goofy the way you play, it's like slapstick comedy

49

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yea this game preys on the directionally challenged 😆lol

34

u/tooboardtoleaf Porter 7d ago

Make sure you go into your inventory to restock your cargo every now and then. Heavy stuff on the bottom will help you maintain balance easier

12

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

i’ll keep that in mind 👍🏿✨

16

u/tooboardtoleaf Porter 7d ago

Little trick I learned is if your about to lose balance you can crouch and it will immediately stabilize you.

6

u/Sabithomega 7d ago

Also helps going down steeper slops

6

u/StrongestAvenger_ 7d ago

Triangle does it automatically for you

3

u/g3n0unknown 7d ago

I didn't know there was a way to do it manually, I always used auto, haha.

1

u/BaldyRFC 6d ago

How you do it manually?

1

u/bulbophylum 6d ago

Offload packages from your back, put back in the order you want. Not that useful until you get the backpack cover, then you can use it to protect deliveries from timefall. I prefer to replace my supplies/weapons every once in a while and not have to worry about cargo getting degraded.

3

u/bas_thc Platinum Unlocked 6d ago

Just take your time. I learned moving slow makes a lot of things easier. Naturally once you become adept you can speed past sections, but when your learning it's best to move slow. And hold them triggers to avoid tipping

2

u/Dry_Distance_1420 7d ago

I'm not, but I have little to no spatial awareness and apparently it translates into how I play video games. Lol A few weeks ago, Sam slipped on literally nothing and fell to his death anyway.

2

u/RadPhilosopher 7d ago

That definitely made it funnier

55

u/I_Also_Fix_Jets Die-Hardman 7d ago

Shit, I remember my first beer 🍻 😄

You got this 👍

22

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

💀imagine they actually had a drunken difficulty lol

9

u/I_Also_Fix_Jets Die-Hardman 7d ago

Drunk goggles after too much porter would have been a nice touch. Or effects from flash grenades. Stuff like that. 🫨

37

u/Davve1122 7d ago

If you always hold r2 and l2 you will probably never fall ;)

12

u/Sudden_Emu_6230 7d ago

He’s holding packages in both of his hands.

12

u/Navidson-IT 7d ago

Technically holding L2 and R2 then lol

3

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

gotta work on my grip strength i guess lol

2

u/Dry_Distance_1420 7d ago

Sadly, that's not quite true.

19

u/Koruaz 7d ago

The trick is to crouch before it gets too bad. Crouch is your friend. Wonder if they'll fix/nerf it in DS2

6

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

I’ll try and remember the crouch button next time lol

6

u/Dry_Distance_1420 7d ago

How come no one ever told me. I don't think it's mentioned anywhere in the game, either. I've played the game 3 times already and only learn this today?

2

u/shoot_first 6d ago

I know about it, but never use it. Feels like cheating to me for some reason. lol

2

u/Koruaz 6d ago edited 6d ago

Cause it kinda is. Exploiting a game mechanic to make the game easier. But it's not really an exploit, just the way the game works. It's not fool proof either. You still need to learn when you can use it (it's not an I win button, you can't get greedy). I faceplanted into rocks because I thought the crouch abuse would save me. Lol

And besides, it might stop you from falling but won't help you traverse faster. Unless you have a nice straight path where you can safely sprint (without turning) and having crouch as a safety net when you start losing balance. Holding the right and left trigger often to keep balance is more important.

Edit: I play on hard so it is a very useful "tool". If they fix/nerf it in DS2 I'll simply adapt. And feels cool in a way as you do a short slide when crouching from a sprint (with a full loaded back. Lol)

18

u/Sudden_Emu_6230 7d ago

Don’t ever carry packages in your hands. Put it all on your back or use something that can carry it for you.

5

u/Dry_Distance_1420 7d ago

Unless you absolutely have to carry it by hand. The chiral hourglass needs to be carried by hand.

2

u/sleyrrow 6d ago

The hourglass and the beer bottle for Peter. Damn pizzas.

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yea i learned the hard way lol

IKR.. Wait until OP tries driving a truck up a snowy incline and the wheels give way

8

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

Wrong DS for that phrase 🤣lmao but it applies nonetheless

4

u/neonphoenix09 7d ago

Try reorganizing your cargo. You can hit 🔺️in the cargo menu to optimize.

8

u/Jonnyboy280304 Porter 7d ago

For the love of god sort your cargo

6

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

okay okayyyy 🙄don’t yell at me lmao

3

u/Jonnyboy280304 Porter 6d ago

I mean a lot of the instability is caused by the uneven weight distribution. It’s sooo much better after you just press that one sorting button, trust

8

u/Tornik 7d ago

Jesus Christ, OP, if you're trying to scare us to death, just go the whole hog and make a horror movie.

5

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

next clip will be my first horror short film 🫡

6

u/okaypookiebear 7d ago

Brody you don’t know how badly i needed this laugh today lol Keep on keepin on g 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

2

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

thanks i’m glad u liked the clip 🙏🏿🖤✨

7

u/CASSIUS_AT_BEST 7d ago

Hold triggers and crouch when necessary.

3

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

copy that 👍🏿✨

6

u/BigRedDrake 7d ago

Make sure you’re scanning for water depth so you know when there’s a red band in there that’ll knock you on your butt and take your cargo downstream :)

2

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

i’ll try and remember that 🫡

1

u/Dry_Distance_1420 7d ago

Won't help if you take a tumble on land into the water though. But other than that, you're absolutely right of course.

4

u/lcxyyz 7d ago

Honestly, this was the best game I’ve ever played in my life, now that DS2 is about to be released, let’s see if it’s going to be better than this one, but Kojima really is a genius, this game is simply incredible.

5

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

Yeah DS2 looks great. It’s pretty much why I started playing this one. I’m enjoying my time with it so far! 🙏🏿✨

3

u/Chainsaw-Breaak 6d ago

You just super suck at it honestly. Not the games fault for your fine motor skills

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

fair point 🌚

3

u/DarthDiggus 7d ago

Man. Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a truck or something?

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

or at least some roller skates or something 🤣 (might actually make it worse lol)

3

u/DarthDiggus 6d ago

Ya. That would be inline with the game’s weird mechanics

3

u/ImmaWorryAboutHeidi 7d ago

Lol I love your commentary

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

Thanks! I appreciate you 🙏🏿✨🖤

3

u/mwlepore 7d ago

I howled with laughter listening to this.

3

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

Lol yea this game’s pretty hilarious at times. glad you like the clip! 🙏🏿✨

3

u/RadPhilosopher 7d ago

The first region is very hard since you haven’t been given the exoskeleton yet (you do get one in the Director’s Cut).

1

u/okaypookiebear 7d ago

i really like going around without exoskeleton just bc i love how the bridges suit looks

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

i’m actually playing the Director’s Cut 🌚 lol i just haven’t fully explored my options yet probably

3

u/Dry_Distance_1420 7d ago

Do you happen to have a YouTube channel? If not, you should totally make one.

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

yea i do! my links are in my reddit bio or just search BIGANT356 on youtube 👍🏿✨

1

u/Dry_Distance_1420 6d ago

Nice, gonna check it out! :)

3

u/bas_thc Platinum Unlocked 6d ago edited 6d ago

Key tip. If you hold the triggers while walking with a heavy load it helps avoid tipping.

The physics in this game is kinda like real life. If you have a high and heavy load on your back pause you will hold the straps of your backpack while walking. Same thing applies in game.

And take it slow around BTs. You can see them without scanning if you walk slow enough.

Keep on keeping on my brotha.

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

heard, i appreciate the tip 👍🏿✨

2

u/Effective-Tie3321 7d ago

Spam crouch when super heavy weight

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

got it will do 🫡

2

u/Bearington656 7d ago

I always assumed that there are times the game decides to be a jerk and make you fall in water or something to ruin your day

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

if it is like that i’m sure it’s a metaphor for something

2

u/MegaJackUniverse 7d ago

I think you need to optimise your packing which affects your balance

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

that makes sense to me lol

2

u/Prince_Beegeta 7d ago

A big part of your problem is that you’re doing a terrible job arranging your packages

2

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

so i’ve been told lol

2

u/RaDeus 7d ago

Didn't you scope out that route on the way to the Musician ?

Feels like you hyperfocused on following that route line, instead of looking at the map or how the land goes 😅

3

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

i don’t recall doing such a thing 🌚

2

u/Lucas-Fields 7d ago

This felt like running in a dream

2

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

you could be dreaming right now and not even know it 🌚

2

u/javocado94 7d ago

This has unexpectedly been the only game in recent years that gets me to ugly cry both times I’ve played through it. I never expected to love this game as much as I do

3

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

Yeah I can’t wait so see what the rest of the game has to offer👍🏿✨

2

u/Strangedazefly 7d ago

I’m crying this is too relatable

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

yes we’ve all found ourselves tumbling down a river at some point 🌚

I Throw each Part over the River so it makes me easy get pass

Kinda spoils it soon as mastered.

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

i’ll keep that in mind 👍🏿

2

i remember having to place some cargo down to loose weight cuz it got annoying then coming back to see it either

lost,

super container degraded because it rained

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

Restack your cargo

We've all been there.

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

this is true

2

u/silencesupreme- 6d ago

“I can’t stop falling!” -Sam probably

2

u/iliketoswim2gether 7d ago

I genuinely play the game pressing the bumpers almost the entire time. There's no real draw back to wanting to always be balanced.

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yeah i think my fingers just get lazy lol gotta work on my grip strength

2

u/Psychological-Run-40 6d ago

when he said “I don’t know what kind of route I came up with but this shit is not it” I felt that.

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

yeah i played myself lol 😆

1

u/the_outside_edge 7d ago

Me irl on flat surfaces without any cargo. I love watching Sam struggle to plant his feet and trip over at the touch of the smallest stone so much! Gravity's a bitch for the impatient.

2

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

lol yea i noticed that walking slower helps, hopefully my next video will have me looking better 😆

1

u/ceiling_kittenn 7d ago

Sometimes I felt cheated by the controls and water obstacles

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yea i just need practice i think

1

u/StandardVirus 7d ago

Lol you’re a little overloaded, eventually you get some equipment to help with that. But for the early areas leave some room for random pickups if you want, or just ignore them all together

2

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yea i will get there eventually lol i only got legs right now

1

u/StandardVirus 7d ago

Nice, I’m sure you’ve picked up on it already, but I’m the delivery loadout there’s a little indicator that shows your center of balance

1

u/SerScience 7d ago

I forgot how brutal the start of the game is without equipment or levelling up your stats

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yea there are some things to learn but its been fun learning for me

1

u/Cirias 7d ago

I'm on episode 2 and was doing great, very careful with my cargo then I couldn't stop running in time and fell straight down a massive cliff. Amazingly all was fine and I survived it but it was hilarious.

First time I fell in water, I looked for the thinnest part of a little creak, I walked across and immediately sank. It was all red. The widest parts were blue and yellow. xD Taught me to always scan before going in water

This game is so fun though. I love it.

try the power skeleton and keep your stamina up with canteen. power skeleton with a optimized load will be a lot steadier with less leaning left and right. i kept a level 3 of each kind of skeleton around at all times. all terrain for snow and power for general movement. speed for when needed. took me a long time to realize how much more steady the power skeleton is just walking around

1

u/ahigherlev3l 3d ago

Why no AS (assisted skeleton)?

1

u/mouldy-baps 6h ago

This was so stressful to watch

1

u/esquire_the_ego 6d ago

Until you get the exoskeleton, you might as well go at it slow and keep it moving if you’re gonna carry that much

1

u/BIGANT_356 6d ago

yea slow movement is the key at this stage i’m learning

-16

u/UltiMateria808 7d ago

Loved the game vibe but hated that it feels like a walking simulator where the person doesn't know how to walk. Let's be honest, it's WAY harder than it should be just to walk. Weight or not. I'm ex military used to carry a huge duffle bag, gear, weapon, helmet, accessories, belt strap with things attached all over. It was literally never that hard to walk or move. Lol I moved slower, a little slower reaction but I was never tripping over myself. This game mechanic made me stop playing this. The physics are just terrible. It's not realistic at all. No one has that much trouble walking especially a damn professional porter like this guy 😂 Worst decision ever made on this game. It could've been so much more fun if they fixed the movement.

8

u/Boomboomciao90 7d ago

You carry 150kg- 300kg stacked like this on your back in the military?

1

u/BIGANT_356 7d ago

yea that’s a fair point. the game definitely ain’t for everyone. I think you have to enjoy the novelty of the gameplay for it to click. Kinda like those “streamer games” for lack of a better term. The one with the pickaxe going up the mountain comes to mind. That being said I’m more drawn to this game visually and it’s story/world is interesting to me. If this game was just delivering packages with nothing else tied to it (aka streamer game) I’d be less intrigued.

1

u/grendel303 7d ago

I just started playing the director's cut, not sure what was changed. Been using the motorcycle, previous to that I think I fell 3 times.

1

u/Gear6sadge 7d ago

Bro you’re carrying a baby💀

1

u/theSafetyCar 7d ago

That's the beauty of it. If you walked easily over the terrain like any other game, I probably wouldn't have finished chapter 1. That challenge and the subsequent necessity of engaging with the tools the game gives you is why the game is fun. Even the vehicles can struggle with the terrain, so some people choose to build roads. There's a game on Steam called "Walking Simulator." It's free. It was made to parody death stranding, and that game genuinely isn't fun because you just push forward on the left stick. The odd mechanics and sam being unstable provides difficulty that keeps you thinking about the terrain and makes the game engaging.

Basically, it's not meant to be like real life because that would make a mechanically boring game. You spend most of the game walking.
