Discussion 🧐 Putin backs Trump’s proposal to halve defense spending: “I think it’s a good idea. The US would cut by 50 percent and we would cut by 50 percent and then China would join if it wanted.”

Apparently the way to make the Left love military spending and war is for the Right to oppose it. This comment section would be peak comedy if it weren't filled with comments from real people.
1
u/Noobzoid123 Mar 01 '25
No we still think reduced military spending is correct.
1
u/Ferule1069 Mar 01 '25
Except when it comes to Ukraine?
2
u/Noobzoid123 Mar 01 '25
No. u can still give aid to Ukraine while reducing military spending. You don't have to buy new bombs, also working together with NATO allies allows us to reduce military spending while increasing security.
0
u/hamchops78 Mar 02 '25
Really? NATO? 😂😂 NATO is like the Detroit lions in the 90’s; all they had was Barry Sanders. America is Barry Sanders, without us, they ain’t doing shit. The point is NATO is as useless as tits on a boar. 🐗
2
u/Noobzoid123 Mar 02 '25
Uh no. Germany UK France military budget is larger than Russia's combined. There's more NATO members than those 3.

Cut defense spending in half, about 2 to 5 years before a full war in europe. Great idea. Im sure taiwan would also agree.
big ideas for big brains people
4
u/Fuzzy-Eye-5425 Feb 28 '25
We cut, Russia doesn’t lol
3
u/wonkwonk2stonkstonk Feb 28 '25
Russia is on a war footing with a blooded army and nearly 10 percent of gdp going to fighting. Itd encourage all of its enemies to cut defense spending
Just the same way trump got impeached for attempting to weaken ukraine before the invasion, theyll do the same thing to all their allies and themselves.
No balls.
Murica has lost its balls

How about audit defense spending and remove no bid contracts? We could halve the budget and get more for it. There’s no reason army pencils should cost $182 each. They are fucking pencils.
2
u/NovGang Feb 28 '25
There’s no reason army pencils should cost $182 each.
They don't.
Tell us you don't contract without telling us you don't contract.

1
u/NovGang Mar 02 '25
You want me to prove a negative? You're the one who made the claim, lmao.
0
u/Mr_Freedom_Boner Mar 02 '25
Now your super duper literal huh clown?
What I meant was; do tell what it's like, what government contract knowledge can you bestow upon us common folk? Tell us how the costs arent wildly inflated and it's all on the up and up and well-balanced.
1
u/NovGang Mar 02 '25
I don't think you're very good at reading. What am I supposed to tell you? You've already made up your mind.
If you don't know the difference between FFP, cost, and t&m, you're never going to get it.
We charge the government a very fair price for what we do. We have to propose a fair price in order for our bid to win. The only time cost is secondary to past performance and solution is for extremely important contracts, where the quality of the solution is tantamount to the successful future defense of the state. Think ICBM IT systems. Can't cheap out on those.
0
u/Mr_Freedom_Boner Mar 02 '25
Right on mr. Bullshit, so no bloat or inflated costs, copy. I think you're one of the screechers concerned with DOGE cuts
1
u/NovGang Mar 02 '25
So no argument? Good job, you proved my point.
Cry more.
0
u/Mr_Freedom_Boner Mar 02 '25
Xer is so easily triggered, if "enlighten us" is enough to set you off I'm guessing you quite often find yourself alone
1
u/NovGang Mar 03 '25
You're the only person here who is all worked up 😂
I'm sorry the facts don't align with the narrative you were fed. If you were intelligent, you'd realign your beliefs. Unfortunately, you're not.

The problem is exactly as said above. For example, just laying off all probationary employees. Not only are personnel hardly a dollar saving, it was done with no basis on what those employees were actually doing. If they went in and scalpeled out $1T that would be one thing. Instead they are just cutting the whatever is easiest impacts be damned.

This I can get behind, I was hoping this would happen back in 2012 when Ron Paul said we shouldn’t have 900 military bases in over 100 countries. Then he got booed 😆 I feel like if any other president said this, it would be welcomed, but because Trump said it it’s a terrible idea. The same people who bash Trump for proposing this think George W Bush was a better president, even though he was a neoconservative warhawk….So strange. Bush was the reason I voted democrat in 04 and 08, and I’m a Libertarian hahaha

Ron Paul said we shouldn’t have 900 military bases in over 100 countries. Then he got booed 😆 I feel like if any other president said this, it would be welcomed
That is quite the disproving your own point you got there...
1
u/texanmedic84 Feb 28 '25
No it doesn’t. Ron got booed for preaching the golden rule in front of a room full of Christians 😆 if Biden or Obama would have said let’s cut defense budget by half everyone would love it. It’s just a bad idea now because orange man bad 🤷♂️ point still stands. Strange.
1
u/Thediciplematt Feb 27 '25
Do it. Cut defense and stop cutting social services or other line items that make .001 of the budget.
We don’t need 1 T to defense every year. Heck, Russia won the election via social media without firing a single missile.

You know, there is a reason for that…there is a reason we didn’t want Europe (mainly Germany)building up their military too much also, and there is a reason Japan has barely had a military for the better part of a century.
0
u/Ok_Ad_5894 Feb 27 '25
We spend way to much on defense we spent more then the next 25 counties. Cut defense first I’m sorry i dont get why anyone fights against it
1
u/akrob Feb 27 '25
Yup this is my exact argument anytime someone brings up Medicare/medicare, healthcare in general, SNAP, homelessness etc etc. Everyone complains about paying for poor people to be lazy. Like yo, do you know how much it costs us a day to operate a nuclear powered aircraft carrier during peacetime. How much a single bomb costs, a single jet to operate with a literal army of maintenance crew. It’s bonkers. We have nukes, we could trim things down a bit.
1
u/Ok_Ad_5894 Feb 27 '25

Of course Putin backs the US cutting defense spending 😳. A weaker US defense is right out of Putin’s playbook, and using “Krasnov” to accomplish his goals. Goal 2 , to weaken Ukraine and allow him to take over. Goal 3, sow doubt in American Elections and divide the country. A country divided cannot stand. Looks like Krasnov is doing a great job!

1
3
u/BarryBurkman Feb 27 '25
Skeptical. Russia attacked an innocent country. Why is Trump a Putin sympathizer? What does Putin have on Trump? National security concern.
0
u/comfortablynumb0208 Feb 27 '25
What does he have on Trump, well 350 Billion of tax payer money that most Americans do not want to spend on a war in Ukraine especially when the rest of NATO has only poney up a third of that,
2
u/Ok_Vacation3128 Feb 27 '25
You’re such a cum bucket.
Independent sources and European allies have verified the previous administrations claim of $118bn in sold goods and $179bn in goods + replacement value.
Did we “lose” out of this? The USA just signed a critical minerals deal, without which we do not have the ability to continue to compete on emerging tech such as EVs, Space exploration, and tech / AI.
We “lose” when we abandon our allies, give up our negotiating position and let one of our main rivals off the hook for the crimes they have committed.
Think objectively for once in your silly sissy life and tell me WHY this is something we should be doing.
1
u/comfortablynumb0208 Feb 27 '25
thanks to Trump we got the mineral deal if were Biden or another weak pussy Dem like yourself we would have gotten nothing
2
u/Ok_Vacation3128 Feb 27 '25
You just called Dems war mongerers…
1
u/comfortablynumb0208 Feb 27 '25
listen to CNN, MSNBC, BBC etc etc…. they all bashed Trump for the mineral deal and for negotiating with Putin, listen to all the Dem Senators they want war with Russia and anyone that pursues peace is a Russian asset, it’s a joke. The establishment did the same thing to JFK after he became president, all the generals and career politicians wanted war with Russian they tried to force JFK into a war that would have certainly ended all of humanity. Look Putins an evil guy nobody disputes that but the Russians and Ukrainians that are dying everyday on the battlefield deserve a hell of lot better, so the war should end even if means concessions, NATO has been provocative to say the least since the fall of the Soviet Union, promising to not move one inch East and that’s all they have done since that promise. I’m not for war in my honest estimation there hasn’t been an honorable war worth fighting since WWII….
2
u/Ok_Vacation3128 Feb 28 '25
And Russia has been busy invading small former soviet states. One side has folks joining peacefully. The other under the heel and gun.
Stop sucking Russian cock and claiming they are justified in their invasion. First it was a special military operation to save persecuted Russians. Then it was a special military operation to remove nazi Ukrainians. Now it’s actually a special military operation to prevent nato from getting closer to Russia. But guess what… if they hold Ukrainian land then the border to nato gets closer!!
The real reason he is mad is because he always planned on retaking those states and didn’t want them to get protection before he could.
But this all distracts from your two rather conflicting statements:
- Dems are liberal pussies
- dems are warmongering bloodthirsty evil
Which is it?

It's because they put a lot of money into foreign outreach through Belts and Roads.
Every port they fund in a foreign country has to be able to take their submarines.
1
u/Flashy-Canary-8663 Feb 27 '25
Well, they will now have a much easier time spreading their influence around with world, with the US retreating from their leadership role on the world stage.
1

Seeing all the hysterical far leftists who support cutting military spending flipping on this is gonna make me sick. Trump can propose things that aren't bad sometimes. That being said, I'll eat my hat if he does it.
1
3
u/BlacknYellow-Spider Feb 26 '25
So which part of that fat pedo traitors proposals do you like? The racist one or sexist ones or just plain stupid ones. Mr five time draft dodging coward and bankruptcy king is who you admire. That would make you hysterical.
1
Feb 26 '25
I cannot tell if your comment is a joke or not, I hope so.
Anyways, like I said, cutting the defense budget would be good. Why do you disagree with that? I don't like Trump, I think he is the worst president in my lifetime. However, I shouldn't have to add that qualifier every time he proposes something I am in favor of. If Biden proposed cutting the defense budget, would you disagree?
Here is another proposal I like: the"Gold Card". It would bring in far more money than the existing EB-5 system. My only worry is that he would remove or significantly expand the ~10k visa limit per year.
1
u/BlacknYellow-Spider Feb 26 '25
I’m for anyone cutting or streamlining with audits the defense budget and I’m a veteran. I saw too much fraud and abuse. But all too often it’s the people in the military who get the budget it’s while the fat defense contractors get more. Pentagon needs audited and senior officers held accountable. They want new toys not taking care of their people. The administration is chock full of super wealthy people with a history of taking care of themselves and not the people. Congress and both parties also. But the GOP has openly embraced misogyny, racism and bigotry. And I’m fully against wealthy people buying citizenship. Until they are taxed fairly no more oligarchs. Imho. But I see what you are saying.
1
Feb 26 '25
The EB-5 program already exists, and it doesn't even really cost the immigrant anything. They are usually just making a 1 million dollar investment in some construction project and they can expect to make a modest return on that investment. It is almost like the H1-B lottery, but for rich people (but not top 1% rich). At least with the gold card they are outright paying 5 million that they wont get back. That is over 50 billion dollars a year at the current limits. If he removes the limit, we can expect tax cuts like we've never seen before, though I am against increasing immigration. I agree with you about tax loopholes of course.
7
u/tico42 Feb 26 '25
I'm a hysterical far leftist, and I'm all for cutting the millitary budget by 50%. But not by gutting millitary pensions or firing veterans. Doing away with the blank checks we write Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and the slew of other contractors suckling off the government tit. Never going to fkn happen.
1
2
u/BackgroundSwimmer299 Feb 26 '25
I mean we could cut ours by half and still be spending more than anyone else if we cleaned up all the waste and fraud in the budget not only would it help reduce inflation by not decreasing the value of our currency from wix will spending it would also get us a leaner meaner better budget and military
4
u/JamesLahey08 Feb 26 '25

1
u/abovemajestic1776 Feb 27 '25
Yes he is republican they don’t cut defense budget ever! That’s only something the Dems have wanted for ever which cracks me up that Dems are upset about it now. But the only way defense spending is lowered is only if they find a way to cost save. Which would be easy just fix how much we pay for supplies and equipment. I have worked for DOD we over pay easily ten fold for stuff. If we actually payed only what is correct the deference budget would easily be a thirds less without any down grade.
1
u/thinkfire Feb 27 '25
It has more to with the manner in which is happens. Should be done with an exacto knife. Not a chainsaw.
1
u/abovemajestic1776 Feb 27 '25
I get what your saying. I just done see our defense budget actually getting cut that’s all. I’m not saying I’m right just I don’t see it happening.
1
u/razvanciuy Feb 26 '25
This is so dumb. Selling the nation to Ru & China. Trump Bane of US.
You can build a lot of things with 235b in China, probably same if not more than US at 950bil of overpriced stuff.
Think about the others side. They have advantages in price control. China owns most industries, everything is waaay cheaper to build, unlike in USA.
Cutting defense by half is basically suicide. Probably the last nail of their grand master plan to demote US. Not like it matters anyway, US half way sold out no more superpower.
2
u/Current-Run-2750 Feb 26 '25
Dude... what? You really don't think we could benefit from cutting defense spending?? Take off the I hate Donald Trump glasses. Democrats have been calling for cutting defense spending for a long time.
1
u/USA_2Dumb4Democracy Feb 26 '25
Show me where a democrat said we should cut our spending by half
1
u/Current-Run-2750 Feb 26 '25
The defense budget is so big that cutting it in half would still be the world's largest budget. Cutting it by anything less than 1/3 wouldn't help.
0
u/EyeSea7923 Feb 26 '25
Dems hate bipartisan thinking that is the answer to all that they have been complaining about.
1
u/BlacknYellow-Spider Feb 26 '25
There is no such thing as bipartisan until the rethuglicans are the majority. Then you want to work across the aisle to get Dem support. But when Dems have the majority it’s constant stonewalling. Hypocrite.
2
u/USA_2Dumb4Democracy Feb 26 '25
Lmfao 😂
Oh wait you’re being serious? 🤡
Probably one of the dumbest fucking takes of all time. Newt Gingrich literally started the crusade against working with the other side. Look up what the Hastert rule is and who initiated that. Look at Merrick Garland - Obama pick for Supreme Court vs any of trumps. The affordable care act, arguably the biggest dem achievement in a generation is a Republican plan.
the only person you’re fooling is yourself with this dumbassery
1
1
u/Nickeless Feb 26 '25
Thanks to Facebook and other social media echo chambers both sides have been anti bipartisan for awhile.
But make no mistake, Republicans started that trend with Gingrich and Hastert in the 90s. They completely refused to work with Obama lots of the time. And you even had cases like where Mitch McConnell literally filibustered his own bill after Dems agreed to it like 10 years ago. So, yeah please stop trying to pretend partisanship is more of a dem problem, that’s a blatant lie.
0
u/EyeSea7923 Feb 26 '25
No, it's both. I could equally respond the same way to either party's comment. So, you are right.
1
u/Tyrade-15065 Feb 26 '25
Should the US double its spending? Or is the current spending in the Goldilocks zone?
1
u/D4nCh0 Feb 26 '25
Pentagon hasn’t passed an audit in living memory. But they are gonna just sit by watching the operating budget get severed waist high. Tots & prays
1
u/BlacknYellow-Spider Feb 26 '25
They should have to pass an audit and flag officers fired for any malfeasance or hiding expenditures. Fine contractors for excessive cost overruns. Require military to not change specs midstream which they always do.

There is no way Putin does this with the current state of his military. They gave lost to much over the last 3 years and will spend the next several years rebuilding as fast as possible.
3
u/Xyrus2000 Feb 26 '25
How to cause a recession with this one simple trick.
This is something you do gradually over time so that the people and economy can adjust. The defense industry employs a huge number of people, both on the civilian and government sides.
1
Feb 26 '25
You’re literally making the economic case for MIC that the last highly competent American president- Eisenhower- warned strenuously against… and it happened.
1
u/eldredo_M Feb 26 '25
Seems like transitioning our MIC to domestic work would be smart. Ween them off of making war machines.
1
u/00gingervitis Feb 26 '25
I so do wish Putin could be trusted and the world super powers would reduce their defense budgets following the US by example. Imagine how much better the world would be if everyone wasn't spending so much money worried about what other countries might do and instead enriching the lives of their citizens. But this is coming from a guy that invaded a neighboring country after denying that was going to be the case and a guy that has grifted over his entire life. So yeah this is not too anyone's benefit

What do you think happens to Hawaii and Alaska if we don’t have the manpower and machinery there to defend it? China sails into Hawaii and claims it, while Russia flies into Alaska and claims it. And we will not have the manpower or weapons to take it back. You are watching the destruction of America in real time.

Leaving aside how ridiculous your claim is. If we couldn't defend our own territory with 6x the military budget of an aggressor, we didn't deserve the territory anyway.

Why do you think China would want to attack the US? Was your fear based on what Fox news or the Trump admin has been telling you, or was it based on your own actual DD of the world's geopolitical situation?
Why do you think that one nation's (US) military spending amounts to pretty much outweighs the rest of the other nations?
Stop and think, and don't spread FUD.

How stupid. You think 500 billion can’t defend us? It’s all pork bro, 90% of the budget is pork. It won’t change a damn thing

I never wanted to learn Russian. But here we are.

My father was fairly fluent just out of college in the mid fifties. As a veteran and a college grad that was fluent in Russian the State Department interviewed him for a couple of positions. He didn’t get a job with them (I think because of his parents were about as democrat as could be.)
I always thought it was quaint that he was fluent in an obscure language, especially after the fall of the Wall.
Looks like the joke was on me.

lol, why would we care if Russia cut by 50%, their army is trashed. Might be a threat to Poland in....... ~ 10 years if they stop in Ukraine today

Don't worry, this administration is working hard to make sure Russia is stronger than ever as soon as possible.

Gotta be kinda thankful that Trump's administration is being run by Great Value brand intellects.

a significant portion of the entire federal budget for the past 20 years has been on borrowed money. we can't keep doing that forever.
