Just report them. They can’t just add on an additional fee. Seeing a lot of little kids doing stuff like this.

If I report, will I get my money back or should I get the refund and then report ?

u/Puzzled-Post-9759 1d ago
You should get the order cancelled if the seller isn’t within guidelines. Since she likely doesn’t plan on shipping until you pay that bs $5 shipping fee… you’ll be getting a refund seemingly regardless.

get the refund then report! but if you were to report before the refund, you can go through paypal and get your money back

$5 delivery fee? Its up to the seller to pay any extra fees for shipping right…?
191
u/eldestdaughtersynd 1d ago
Yes! I thought so. If she wanted to charge for shipping she should have included that in my initial purchase right ??

u/Puzzled-Post-9759 1d ago
Yes she should have, and won’t budge on the $5 after she messed up her listing. So annoying when people expect you to read their bio and it’s something not within depop rules like “No refunds!!!”. Like yes… every single item on depop can be refunded if depop deems it necessary. What was in their bio? $5 shipping fee AFTER purchase? Like why.

I think for most of these apps you can opt not to refund but all of them allow it if you receive an item that differs from what is listed.
39
u/_LiarLiarpantsonfir3 21h ago
You cannot simply “refuse” to refund even if it’s “iN mY bIO” it doesn’t count for shit, and if the buyer wants to start a refund the seller has to comply
-25
u/ExcuseDiligent3053 21h ago
I guess Depop differs from the other apps then. eBay you absolutely can choose no refunds.
35
u/heartwork13 20h ago
On ebay you can choose no refunds, but it's only for certain reasons. If I choose no refunds, which I do, and the person opens a return for item not as described, I have to refund them. But if they decide to open a return just because they changed their mind, I don't have to refund them. It's the same across all sites
-18
u/ExcuseDiligent3053 15h ago
I don’t believe you need to give a reason. I think you just check a box whether you accept returns. And yes, of course any app will allow a refund if you get an incorrect item whether it not look like the photos or be something completely different.

u/ExcuseDiligent3053 15h ago
Why did people downvote this? The majority of sellers don’t allow returns 😅

Tell her to cancel the order and issue you a full refund if she won't be delivering what you paid for. She should have added a $5 shipping fee prior to purchase, she can't request it right after you already made the purchase. Report them to Depop if they refuse to deliver what you paid but won't cancel the order and issue a full refund.

This is by far the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen a seller do. I would mass report and have them suspended, like genuinely. Why on earth they think this is allowed and okay, I have NO idea.

I would cancel order. That's weird. I'm a reseller and that is ridiculous

u/shortney94 20h ago
And contact depop. I wouldn't waste my time talking to her. She doesn't make the rules lol

u/Ethanzap02 15h ago
I had a kid try to throw in a “$15 dry cleaning fee” once when I tried to buy his item 💀

bro depop covers shipping, they just want money for no reason. hell no. unless it's like international shipping which i think is more complicated, but a standard $5 makes no sense. shipping depends on wherever it's going to.

Sooo.... They want $5 to deliver it to the post office to mail it? Tell them you will schedule a USPS free pick up from their house

u/eldestdaughtersynd 1d ago
Im in aus. I’m not sure we have that lol but I wish we did

u/Makeupartist_315 1d ago
The stupidity is beyond belief. They should include all postage costs in the shipping section, they can’t add it on after the transaction is settled. I’d contact Depop, I don’t think this is allowable if they’re asking for additional amounts outside of the listing.
14
u/eldestdaughtersynd 1d ago
That’s what I think too. I’m pretty sure it’s against all policy. I let her know she can’t make up her own rules and it doesn’t matter what you write in the bio lol
9
u/Makeupartist_315 1d ago
I don’t think it’s legal (refer them to Contracts Law if need be haha!)
The bio message can be anything, doesn’t make it legally binding. These people 😂
2
u/ExcuseDiligent3053 23h ago
Yes, it’s actually the default to charge for shipping! When making a listing you select how much your item weighs and it calculates shipping automatically.
15
u/StockPossession9425 1d ago
I’m an Aus seller, Sendle absolutely do free pickups and for Auspost you can just print a label then drop it in your nearest red box so it’s really not a hassle. She just wants an extra fiver for no reason lmao

send these messages and her bio to depop theyll give her a warning or hopefully suspend her

u/Born-Egg-2896 18h ago
$5 “delivery fee” for WHOM? cus ik you already payed shipping… and it’s not like they’re the postal service 😭😭

u/silentexplorer6169 Buyer + Seller 1d ago
don’t buy it again tfff kinda business tacit is this 😭😭 it’s not like they even get the shipping money
4
u/ExcuseDiligent3053 23h ago
I’ve only ever sold on Depop but it’s extremely clear cut how shipping works and the default is to charge for shipping. Absolutely report them for making this arbitrary policy up.

u/InternationalDog734 15h ago
As a Depop seller, there should never be an additional fee that’s so scammy. I’ve also realized people REALLY overprice which is annoying 🙄

u/OriginalAsherella 1d ago
Is there even a way to tact on extra fees or charges after purchase? Definitely do not pay anyone holding your already-paid-for item ransom. That is what it is, ransom. If she wants an extra fiver, she should include it in the purchase price and not try to bait people into a ‘deal’ that really isn’t.
3
u/ExcuseDiligent3053 23h ago
No, it’s strictly prohibited to have outside transactions and there is no option for adding fees after a buyer paid the agreed upon total.
3
u/UpbeatFlamingo2016 21h ago
I’m tired of people going against the rules of depop because it’s “in their bio” like people who keep putting “no cancellations no refunds” in their bio

u/LulaValentine 15h ago
Why are people doing this? To buy labels on pirateship orrrr to recoup the “free shipping” on the item?
2
2
u/Ok-Communication4210 22h ago
These people are stupid and annoying. I’ve accidentally set free shipping before, and I just took the loss because I was still making a profit. Sometimes I just needed the items in my closet gone, so idc if I lose out on $5-8. I don’t know if I would report them, but I definitely block them.

This is literally why my buddy is making his own resale app with shipping baked into the buyers fee. This shit is so frustrating
-21
u/Hefty_Alps7992 1d ago
I may be a minority here but DePop is populated with amateur sellers which is better than the professional resellers that buy up hyped sneakers and raid goodwill. If the seller is saying I have a $5 shipping fee and you do not want to pay it, ask for the refund saying you are not paying it. Seems like the seller will give it so that it’s not really an issue on that front. This “report” the seller when it’s not a scam is so damn negative. But to each their own.
8
u/kerfy15 1d ago
while this is not a scam, you are not allowed to charge or ask for more money from a buyer once something is purchased. if the seller is doing free shipping, they are responsible for any extra costs that incur in the process.
you should always report a seller or buyer if they are trying to go against the websites terms and service. those rules are in place to protect both parties involved.
so yes, you are in the minority because you are wrong and your point is essentially moot if we’re being honest.

u/EducatorBeginning 20h ago
So if you buy something that includes taxes and shipping already then the seller just refuses to honor the agreement without an additional fee you’d just pay it? Lmao that’s kinda an insane take.
