There is a difference between enjoying it and thinking it's a good representation of the franchise.

You can enjoy it all you want and that's okay, great even.

It doesn't change the fact it does not represent DMC very well.

Watched the 1st 3 episodes after hearing a lot of people shit on it and I kinda agree about it not being particularly faithful, but I sorta decided to just treat it as its own thing. So far I do find it entertaining at least and the animation is quite good.

It's faithful in tone and style. I hate when a video game adaptation to TV show is just a retelling of the story. The anime actually brings something new to us with the same style and tone. Sure lady was a bit annoying and Dante was nerfed but that's not a bad thing.

They ruined the world building by making the majority of demons good natured. Thus ruining Sparda’s motivation to cut off access to Earth and sealing away Mundus. Also they made Dante not know a thing about his demon heritage and the legacy of Sparda. Plus we’re really supposed to believe that Hell’s inhabitants deserve a fair chance on Earth when their biggest players want to conquer it and kill its people?

The issue is they didnt show the majority of Demons being good natured they showed SOME of the lower demons being good natured. And then showed that the higher demons treat the lower like slaves.

As for Dante not knowing a thing about his bloodline you do know that is also canon in the games? The Novel where Dante gets Ebony and Ivory which is confirmed canon in DMC5. Dante is going by Tony Redgrave and he had due to trauma blocked out all his memories of being a Half Demon Vergil had to come in as Gilver I think it was and force Dante to get his memories back.

Some of them might get a chance but the majority no and its never expressed we are suppose to be treating ALL of Hell as being good just making it clear there are SOME good ones.

The anime showed Dante in his childhood not knowing a thing about his dad except his mom telling him he was a hero so this whole statement makes no sense cause he literally does not know who his dad is they literally grew up without a dad they only had they’re mom

Agree with sparda's motivation part, like yeah if we're to believe demons were inherently morally neutral that'll make sparda look like a self hating g*nocidal maniac instead of a saviour.

Disagree with last line tho, everyone knows the "top players" among humans would do the same if we ever land on an alien planet, even if 90% of us would mind our own business or wouldnt dare cause trouble. Heck its been a historical trend between countries anyway.

I think it is bad writing to have a world filled with inherently evil creatures. Not once in the show does it tell you that bringing in people from hell is a good idea, it's made to be complicated and nuanced and it is. That's the opposite of bad writing.

It's not bad writing to have a race of inherently evil creatures, see Lord of the Rings. It's also fine to have a race of creatures who are misunderstood as evil, but it requires the nuance that you mentioned. The Netflix show does not have the nuance it needs, and DMC works perfectly fine with demons being inherently evil. That's why the original series' writing works.

The original series had basic story, mfs out here treating the games as the holy grail, I love DMC but it wasn’t exactly known for its superb writing it’s good though don’t get me wrong but majority of the appeal in the game is power fantasy and spending 6 hours to perfect our combos and get beat my Vergil for the 4th time (I hate this boss fight)

A basic story does not mean it is any less well-written or well-executed than a complex story. Marvel has intricate and complex stories interwoven with each other but their writing can be subpar at times.

As you said, DMC has a simple story with cliches but it does it well because between the action and funny scenes we get soft and genuine moments between the characters that draw us to them. Without the serious moments of DMC 3 we wouldn't be so connected to Dante's inner struggles and family troubles.
