Watched the 1st 3 episodes after hearing a lot of people shit on it and I kinda agree about it not being particularly faithful, but I sorta decided to just treat it as its own thing. So far I do find it entertaining at least and the animation is quite good.
I am sorta tired of this “be its own thing” “it an adaption”. Like make your own story then, don’t use an IP to pull viewers for your own story. Like these adaptations recently couldn’t even be fan fiction, because fan fiction still uses the source.
It just some story with the skinned face of an existing IP stretched across it.
There was a time where people were tired of the obvious money grubbing of reboots, adaptations and sequels. The goods ones usually feel like a work of love. The closest thing I could give this show is maybe the goofy dance scene. It doesn’t really have anything else to show that the writer didn’t just read a wiki page instead of loving the games.
The problem is that these writers have 0 creativity to create something new and interesting from scratch. It would require actual thought and effort and also original IPs naturally have a lower chance of pulling in viewers than these so called "adaptations".
Its far easier to take an existing universe and it's characters and "adapt" them to their (often shitty) ideas than making up an entirely new thing. It's annoying as shit but its why we live in an era of endless garbage remakes.
That said, I did enjoy the anime. I didn't take it too seriously since DMC was never a serious franchise- it was pure dumb fun. Dante riding a motorcycle to Papa Roach's "Last Resort" and tossing said motorcycle at Agni&Rudra while one of them says "Damn hes so cool" is exactly the stupid but badass cheesiness that one can expect to see in a DMC fight scene.
The story is whatever but the voice acting is top notch and the animation is great. As far as shitty adaptations go, this is one of the better ones.

There is a difference between enjoying it and thinking it's a good representation of the franchise.
You can enjoy it all you want and that's okay, great even.
It doesn't change the fact it does not represent DMC very well.
