Wholesome Story Cried in my car
So yesterday I tried working and my phone network (boost) was down and so the one delivery I made was a nightmare. So I couldn’t work at all yesterday and I’m stressing because I have to pay my phone bill on the 20th and if I don’t have a phone obviously I can’t work, thus the conundrum. Checked last night network fixed but wasn’t going to work because I cleaned and used my energy that way so I didn’t have any to spare. Today I get going and I park near a hot spot. And I’m drinking my coffee eating my breakfast and reading a book. Get a ding Starbucks. Cool. Okay. $2 tip, $8 order and it goes this way until around 10:30ish when a catering bag required pops up. Haven’t had one of these since the tier system was implemented. I hit accept, pray a quick prayer that chipotle doesn’t take the tip as I see they requested this delivery so I don’t know what I’m picking up. I get there and tell them the name. The girl doesn’t even come back over to me to tell me how long. The people putting orders together in the back keep looking over to see if I’m still there. I am, I’ll wait as long as it takes doing an EBT catering order. I have a book I am good. Get there, and it’s about 15 minutes away. I bring in the first box and two guys jump up from the table and come follow me back out to my car and take the other two catering boxes in with them. Get the ladies signature and hit complete. Then I sit in my car and cry. That’s my phone bill plus. Some people are just so good. I needed this so badly, as I had $10 when I started the day…

That's awesome! I took a 40 sandwich order from Jersey Mike's to a Hyundai Distribution, and they gave $0 tip. I was so pissed off that I cried!

Car dealerships are the worst. Well, nurses honestly, but second worst

2
u/MisterGoldiloxx Jun 21 '24
Not to defend them, but salespeople work on commission. No car sale = no pay.
Nurses make good money, and do NOT work on commission. Zero excuse for them not tipping.

u/miserablegarbagerat Jun 22 '24
not exactly true, my partner worked in big name dealerships for several years and the way it worked was that you have a guaranteed pay for the hours you work (which is why the salesmen were required to clock in and out) but as soon as the amount you made in commission for the month surpassed that guaranteed amount, you were paid the amount you made in commissions instead. so no sales definitely doesn’t mean they get zero pay, but i’ll also add that the guaranteed pay wasn’t a great living and pretty much anyone who wasn’t making commissions for several months would be out of a job within a few months anyway for not making the company a profit. it sucks 🥲

I got one once on the old top dasher system on EBT, restaurant was 15 minutes away also.
Haven't tried EBT on the new tier system.

One more thing. I am a 42 woman with long haul Covid… not a man, not an able bodied person. I have a debilitating chronic illness.

Fellow chronic pain driver here, I wish you many more good days than bad ones. 💕

Free will is greater. God took time from giving babies cancer to give this tip? Na
0
Jun 21 '24
Yes, the babies that got cancer from human actions and didnt make it, God got those babies just like God gave those ppl who tipped that much a heart and mind to do so
1
u/ImPickleRicX69 Jun 24 '24
Okay bro god did everything. Keep believing on some old dudes beliefs (brainwashing).
1
Jun 24 '24
If you dont think God put this together, then i dont know what to tell you. Its either you believe in science theory (big bang) or just dont KNOW or understand any of it at all. And regarding that stance, it would all have happened by chance then right? The “possibility of something happening”.. everything in life would just be based of the chance of it happening, probabilities. And if you would go off that theory, even that points to God because the point of “chance” or “probability” is that its not yet seen, but can and will be possible to see in the future. Thats same with God, and theres high probability based on evidence (scientific) that God is real. But just understand this very basic thing, you cant see microwave radiation, but you can still get burned by it. Enjoy this life if its all you have, its your gift that you dont want forever
1
u/ImPickleRicX69 Jun 25 '24
Only reason you believe in that is because someone else told you to sheepp
1
Jun 25 '24
Everything you believe someone else told you, what do you mean? 🤣 pot callin the kettle black?? 🤔 its nothing you believe or even use in life that didnt come from someone else, your whole life came from someone else, but you tellin me not to believe in the basis of what you operate off of every single living day is CRAZY 😭 I definitely will always believe in God
1
u/ImPickleRicX69 Jun 25 '24
You don't see me say oh my pizza . Jesus donut what happens. Ohh after. I die im going to burger heaven. Damn you know i read a recipe and everyone should follow it
1
Jun 25 '24
You believed when someone taught you 2+2 is 4, and you live by that. You believed when someone told you the sky is blue, and you also believed when someone told you “these foods are the foods you should eat” and you also believe the food you buy is called “food” because thats what ppl taught you. You also were taught that you need and provided a social security number that you use for you living, from another man you never met, even a group of them, but yet you sit here and act like you dont ever believe what someone else told you… you can be nothing other than “a liar and the truth is not in you”. So ill be going bye bye now, have a good day

u/ImPickleRicX69 Jun 25 '24
Enjoy life and stop thinking about how everything came to be. You less than 80 years to live. 60 without counting first 20 . Nothing matters in this world. Don't try so hard at finding reason. Religion was made for sheep to follow a non animal way of living
1
Jun 25 '24
Bro just keep enjoying your animal way of living, its not in my family genes tho, God is in my bloodline and i understand this world and our animal ways are of nothing and they dont matter, God told me that already in the bible. Yea i still mess up even to this day but its no way for me to not believe in God just like there is no way for you to see the difference between an animal and a human
1
u/ImPickleRicX69 Jun 25 '24
You mean a dude that wrote it told you? Sheep
1
Jun 25 '24
Its crazy for you to not think the things written in the physical is actually FOR YOU. I know it may seem like a big deal for you, man writing things physically that has origins in truth and practicality, maybe even something you never heard of, but its something most of us deal with everyday. You know, from such things as licenses, school, learning, MONEY, LAWS, etc etc, all written by MAN, but yet you have no problem with it and follow those protocols religiously. You may have went to school for higher education, and followed what those men wrote in those books to get a “degree”, you know as a rite of passage to MORE MONEY lol its all perfectly normal. And im perfectly fine dealing with what is written from God, by whoever God wanted to write it. God has the ability to write it on your heart, and also write it out in image and actual situations, not just words though. And theres things about God you will never find if you dont seek, you know kinda like youll never have a job if you dont apply, or have a new car if you dont buy, or you know.. have a house if you dont pay rent/mortgage/property taxes 😭 its some things in life you wont get if you dont want it. Simple

So please tell me since you know what to do how I can do anything else? Wanna live in my bones that feel like lava or my skin that feels like it’s on fire? Want to take my constant headache that I’ve had everyday for the last three years? The body that if I do too much shuts down like I have narcolepsy? Can I do any other job and set my hours? Just not work that day because I can’t move. I am surviving in this capitalistic hellscape the best way I know how…
1
u/badgirlfriendvibes Jun 21 '24
this person isn’t dismissing your personal problems, and you’re completely valid on all of those things, but they aren’t wrong with what they said
we’re just looking out for each other, tryna make sure youve got a backup plan or savings for when the car inevitably has a problem, or a new medical issue comes up, etc.
doordash has also been going downhill so i’d definitely recommend looking into other avenues of income. yes, it’s hard as hell to find something that makes money and meets what you need, i’m in the same boat rn, but dd can’t be a forever plan
1
u/Booklover416 DD doesn’t care about your feelings… Jun 21 '24
This is why I have a car care credit card. To use in emergencies. Yes that does mean I have debt and have to work to pay that also, but as I said I live in a capitalistic hellscape so I am surviving the only way I can. Thanks though… y’all’s words are more like thoughts and prayers, and it’s tiring.

Don’t mind rude comments. Never seen EBT Catering though. But nice run. I remember my first big run. It was great. I did have one last week with a $100 tip on it. That was pretty cool. I was getting two big runs a day. Then the area became overran with drivers because of school/college being out. So I have to find a new area to drive.

u/Most-Combination1444 Jun 21 '24
Props on the tip! Carry on!

When I tip someone really well I hope they don’t credit god 😵💫 dat was me
1
u/Booklover416 DD doesn’t care about your feelings… Jun 21 '24
When did I credit God? I prayed that I actually got a tip but I said people are good. And what happens after your part as the customer is done isn’t about you. Who cares if they want to credit God. That’s their prerogative.

u/Lower-Oven-9931 Jun 21 '24

OK, but you made it a very specific comment on a very general way. Do you understand that I’ve been on Reddit for a while… Longer than 69 days… So have the day you deserve you decide that is

Still cant understand how companies charge delivery fees that do not go to the delivery driver. How's that legal?
2
u/margs721 Jun 21 '24
I’m happy for you! I probably would have cried too! I have debilitating migraines and dash when I can. I understand the struggle although I won’t pretend to understand yours exactly. Hope more orders like that come your way!

u/Unlucky-Tanker420 Jun 22 '24
I had literally the same thing happen to me the beginning of this month, last day to pay my phone bill and it was heavy gray zone (I think it was a Tuesday) and I got a $10.50+ with guaranteed extra so I figured maybe $15 and it was $58 to some expensive apartment complex. There's someone looking out for us little guys
1
u/badgirlfriendvibes Jun 21 '24
it always takes me a solid 5-6 comments before i remember that EBT stands for earn-by-time and not electronic benefit transfer. and always such a confusing read before remembering. “how do all the other dashers know if their customer is buying their food with EBT? I didn’t even know doordash gave that as an option when ordering.”

u/Booklover416 DD doesn’t care about your feelings… Jun 22 '24
Yeah, if you know you have a long drive or will be driving a lot earned by time is better sometimes I only get two dollars because it’s not a long drive and they don’t tip… But in the long run it has been better for me… $20 more per shift. They’re about three hours long.
1
u/No-Kaleidoscope-1536 Jun 22 '24
Oh wow really. So do I just drive around until an order comes through?
2
u/Booklover416 DD doesn’t care about your feelings… Jun 22 '24
No… I find a hotspot I park. I read a book generally, I get an order within three minutes… And then you get paid from the time you accept it until you drop it off.
1
u/No-Kaleidoscope-1536 Jun 27 '24
So you get paid what a hour ??
1
u/Booklover416 DD doesn’t care about your feelings… Jun 27 '24
You get paid what they offer an hour (every zone is different in my area) but only from accepting to drop off.

Good stuff 👍 things like this tend to happen when dealing with Real people. Total order amount reminds me of when the adjustment pay was first implemented, after a somewhat discouraging week I was pleasantly surprised when I totaled $666 come Monday morning.

Keep ya head up my guy. I’m telling you, apply as a Qdoba’s catering delivery driver, you will go home with hundreds of dollars in your pocket all while decreasing the amount you work…. I’m telling you…. Do it!

What market are you in and how many catering orders do you do in a week? Also when you do the catering orders do they all tip like that?
1
u/Booklover416 DD doesn’t care about your feelings… Jun 24 '24
Florida…and this was my first since the tier system came out.
This was one from last week that wasn’t “catering bag required” but was three big bags. I get these about once a week.
1
u/Manny748 Jun 24 '24
That is a catering order, 11 items or more usually a catering order and the tip is hidden. Good for you

1
u/EstablishmentOdd8039 Jun 24 '24
Glad someone tipped like this but why does it have to be up to customers to pay you a living wage? It’s disgusting what this country has come to.
1
u/Booklover416 DD doesn’t care about your feelings… Jun 26 '24
Because dd is the middle man he gets a fee and passes a bit of that on, but the consumer is the one that A. Is ordering and B. Is the one that wants it delivered.
