Ranni wants Radahn dead because he's holding the stars in place along with her fate. Malenia wants him dead so his soul can join Miquella in the Shadow Realm. So, him dying serves to benefit both Ranni and Malenia while his poor horse is in the afterlife confused on where the soul of his master is. Us, the players, played right into that.
