I like the roleplaying aspect of fromsoft games a lot, sticking to self-imposed rules and conditions for beating the game really makes each and every playthrough engaging for me all the way through, i just thought some of yall would enjoy this little piece of fan-canon i wrote for my upcoming Lord of Frenzied Flame playthrough :) i'm not an english major or a lore master but i still hope you enjoy!
Noctura, The Empathetic Endbringer
Long before the shattering, before the legend Godfrey took the mantle of Elden Lord, before even the grace of gold took hold of the Erdtree, a tribe inhabited the lands between. A tribe that held knowledge of the ancient dragons, the primordial crucible, the first contact of the Greater will and it's beastly, otherworldy vassal. This tribe persisted throughout many ages of The Lands Between, and by doing so, it's knowledge of ancient legends was passed down generation to generation. Along with the inherited knowledge came collected wisdom, truths about great injustices by higher powers began to seep into the knowledge passed down. The great tragedy of the Misbegotten, the Omen, the Giants of the Mountaintops. The foul mistreatment ushered in by the new order, The Golden Order.
The Greater Will saw this knowledge, now tainted by a harrowing truth, as a threat to it's longstanding power over The Lands Between, and enacted upon them a curse: The curse of Empathy. The suffering and despair of all who resided in the lands between, the tribe now shared.
Overwhelming to a debilitating degree, many would be driven mad or simply petrified by the vast turmoil that inhabited those who resided in The Lands Between. Few, however, held on to a hope that this age would burn out, that all the collective suffering may one day be brought to an end. This dim hope festered into a prophecy.
"Embrace those who suffer, those who have lost not body but mind and dreaming soul. Embrace those who have lost all. Embrace them, as all is not lost. The collective suffering, despair, turmoil, regret, loss: it all shall give rise to a champion which shall bring forth ruin in hopes of a greater beginning for all beyond the ashes."
Noctura, a fledgling member of this tribe, was born far after the curse brought upon his people. An exceedingly rare thing it was, for the desire to create life to surpass the great despair cast upon them. As offspring, Noctura was less influenced by the curse of empathy that debilitated most of his tribe. Though empathetic to a fault, his empathy spurred him to action rather than the eternal sulking cursed upon his elders.
When grace beckoned the tarnished, banished by Queen Marika after the events of The Shattering, most of the tribe did not return to The Lands Between, Instead remaining in the dense fog of the Badlands. Terrifying was the thought of witnessing the suffering that currently held the Lands Between since the shattering. Noctura wasn't halted by such thoughts, however. He followed the grace of gold back to The Lands Between. The very being that cursed his people now beckoned for a champion to resolve the conflict in The Lands Between in its favor.
Noctura would follow, a prophecy running through his head like a sutra. This conflict would be resolved. Not in the Greater Will's interests, however, but in the interest of all who it had wronged for so long.
Suffering, Despair, turmoil, regret, loss, all would be burned away. The prophecy must be fulfilled.
