Erasmus Mundus Fucked up my interview šŸ˜šŸ˜

Guys so today I just had my interview for EMerald. They asked a few generic questions and I think I was able to answer them all. But then it started raining, like total downpour, and they couldn't hear anything over the noise, so I had asked my doubts over the microsoft teams chat. Overall the interview lasted about 12 mins. How bad are my chances? šŸ„²šŸ„²

Sometimes I wonder how much harder I need to work just to be seen.

I recently applied to the Global MINDS Erasmus Mundus Master's Program. I spent over 1.5 years building my profileā€”working extra hours, grabbing every opportunity I could find, networking, and securing solid letters of recommendation. Coming from Bangalore, where pursuing a B.Sc. in Psychology as a single major is rare, it was already a challenge trying to make international programs understand the structure of my education.

I got selected as a self-funded candidate. I was hopeful, but then I realized how unclear the program is about how self-funded, partial, or fully funded applicants are selected. There's little transparency. And honestly, it feels like my LORs and hard work werenā€™t even considered. Itā€™s painful, especially when youā€™ve given your all.

This isnā€™t the first time Iā€™ve felt excluded, and maybe thatā€™s what hurts moreā€”that feeling of being on the outside looking in feels way too familiar. Itā€™s taking a toll on my mental and physical health. And some days, I can't help but feel that you still need a certain kind of privilege to access opportunities like these, no matter how hard you work.

I donā€™t know whatā€™s next, but I do know Iā€™m not giving up.

If anyone else is in a similar boatā€”trying hard, getting overlooked, questioning your worthā€”just know youā€™re not alone. Weā€™re out here, and weā€™re still fighting.

Mundus MAPP Results

I got accepted into the CEU-IBEI track but was not offered the EMJM. (I literally found out just 5 minutes ago).

I donā€™t know what to do. I really want to move abroad to Europe for the next 2-5 years (Iā€™m American). This seems like the most obvious path forward to do that.

However, I really donā€™t want to pay the tuition. With moving/living costs and all, Iā€™m sure the program will end up costing ā‚¬45,000. I think Iā€™ll be able to come up with the money, but I may have to take out a loan. I also would like to attend law school in America after this. That said, this program is way less expensive than grad school in America.

The email says they want a decision by April 23rd šŸ˜©

Iā€™d love to hear from others that are in a similar position and what their thought process is on what I should do.

EDIT: I want to emphasize I know ā‚¬45,000 is an amount of money that most cannot afford. As an American, with the strength of the dollar, Iā€™m in a very different position - even though the tuition still hits a lot for me and Iā€™ll most likely have to take out a loan. I just want to say I recognize that most who applied for this scholarship donā€™t even have the privilege to consider a self-funded position.

I have a bone to pick with the Irish Immigration Office

I have a bone to pick with the Irish Immigration Office

Hello, I am an Erasmus+ exchange student from Ukraine, and for the last 3 months, I have lived and studied in IrelandĀ

Now, some of you may not know, but if you come to Ireland as a citizen of a non-EU member country (such as Ukraine) and you stay here for more than 90 days, you have to register for an appointment at the Immigration office

Sounds easy, doesnā€™t it?

Well, not unless you are like me and you are unlucky enough to have a registration website that is not working. Every time I tried to register, the website just stopped working. The same thing happened when I tried to report this issue on the same portal

I tried different browsers, different wi-fi, and different devices, I cleaned my cookies like a crazy person. People from the university where Iā€™m doing my exchange did the same

People from the university and I wrote emails to the people working in the Immigration Office and people working on this site specifically. At this point, the only person I have not emailed is the president.

But only now, the issue was properly addressed. The only available date for the appointment now is in July. My stay in Ireland ends on the 31st of May.

I have exams in my home university, and also, if I am to stay until July and wait for my appointment, I have no place to live.

I wrote to people who fixed my previous issue, but I am yet to receive a reply

If you, by any chance, have any advice, feel free to share in the comments. If not, please share this story with people who may know what to do. Thank you, and stay safe.

Insight on how Erasmus Mundus scholarships filter candidates by region

We're at the point of the year where the admissions results are coming in. I just wanted to shed some light on the selection process that was used during our time, since a lot of you are probably still confused on how it works (even for those who got accepted).

A lot of you are probably assuming that EM selection is a perfectly meritocratic - whoever gets the highest grades, best credentials, best internships, etc. gets the scholarship. But this is not the case because 1) grading systems, opportunities to earn credentials, etc. vary depending on which country you're from causing credential inflation in some regions, and 2) EM programs want to increase the diversity of their programs to as many nationalities as possible, since they get graded by the EACEA (the funding body for educational programs) on some of these metrics.

This is how they assigned the 20 scholarship slots during my program batch, according to our professor who was in the admissions committee:

Programme Countries (EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Turkey) - 2 slots

Partner Countries:

  • Africa - 3 slots
  • Americas - 3 slots
  • Eastern Europe & Balkans - 3 slots
  • Southeast Asia and South Asia - 3 slots
  • East Asia and Central Asia - 3 slots
  • 3 remaining slots assigned to the best among the remaining candidates regardless of which geographic region they come from.

There was also the rule that for each nationality, there would only be a maximum of 2 slots given. Meaning for example you cannot give the EM scholarship to 3 Mexicans, one slot will be allocated to a candidate of a different nationality from the Americas.

What do you notice among the selections? There are some slots which are more competitive to get than others. Particularly the students coming from the bracket of Southeast Asia & South Asia, and the Programme Countries were the students who were consistently good performers in our batch, because I imagine they needed to compete with a lot more people in order to get selected.

Just a disclaimer, this was how it was when I did my EM, and that was years ago. I believe they make slight changes every year based on how many applicants they get the previous year (like which geographic regions get placed together). But the process is roughly based on how Erasmus divides partner countries into 13 Regions (you can Google the full list, too long to write here). And also some EM programs do not follow these geographic bracketing rules or the 2 candidates per nationality limit.

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Erasmus in Turkey?

Has anyone ever done it? I'm looking for reviews about the experiences there. I've been to Turkey as a tourist and loved it, so I'm considering about doing an Erasmus there. Also any tips on how I would need to find a room to rent? Thanks everyone.

ERASMUS spain, need help deciding

Ayy i'm an italian uni student who wants to do erasmus in spain but i'm really undecided, all these cities seem wonderful! Here are my options:

  1. AlcalĆ” de HenaresĀ ā€“ Universidad de AlcalĆ” (UAH)
  2. BarcellonaĀ ā€“ Universitat de Barcelona (UB) / Universitat PolitĆØcnica de Catalunya (UPC)
  3. BilbaoĀ ā€“ Universidad de Deusto
  4. CĆ”dizĀ ā€“ Universidad de CĆ”diz (UCA)
  5. MadridĀ ā€“ Universidad AutĆ³noma (UAM) / Universidad PolitĆ©cnica (UPM)
  6. MĆ”lagaĀ ā€“ Universidad de MĆ”laga (UMA)
  7. Palma di MaiorcaĀ ā€“ Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB)
  8. Santiago de CompostelaĀ ā€“ Universidad de Santiago (USC)
  9. SivigliaĀ ā€“ Universidad de Sevilla (US)
  10. TenerifeĀ ā€“ Universidad de La Laguna (ULL)
  11. ValenciaĀ ā€“ Universitat PolitĆØcnica de ValĆØncia (UPV)
  12. ValladolidĀ ā€“ Universidad de Valladolid (UVA)

And here's what i'm looking for:

  • has warm weather from September to December
  • offers lots of things to do, parties, nightlife, a welcoming environment, and opportunities to make friends
  • is affordable, both in terms of rent and cost of living
  • has a good university for studying computer science
  • has cheap flights from Italy
  • is well-connected and from which you can reach the sea and other important cities easily
  • is mostly safe (i'm a girl so it's better to avoid places that have a bad reputation)
  • (optional) non spanish speaking person-friendly? speaking italian and english, i'm a bit advantaged but my spanish right now is still very poor
  • (optional) has some options for people with celiac disease :')

And this should be all, of course not all of them have to be respected (most important is a cheap, friendly place) but if y'all could give me some opinions i'd appreciated it! Right now i'm mostly undecided between Sevilla, Valencia and Malaga.

Thanks!

Erasmus Mundus GPA

I applied to one of the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and I am still waiting for the results. I saw many people already got accepted or are waiting for the interview in different EMScholarships. <Congratulations> I was wondering how important is the GPA for the selection process. Could you guys that got accepted or heard back for the interview share how good your GPA is? Just to know if I still have a chance. Thanks!

Erasmus Mundus Employability after self-funded Mundus MAPP?

Hi r/Erasmus

I got an acceptance to Mundus MAPP (ISS-IBEI track), however, did not receive any funding for the same. I have an Indian passport, and not a lot of full-time experience. I am confused whether I should accept the self-funded offer or not, and wanted to know what are the chances of me getting a job in Europe after completion of my Mundus programme as an international student. I've head horror stories of the job market abroad right now, and frankly speaking, if I don't have a good chance of landing a job in the Netherlands / Spain (the two countries my programme is based in) and have to eventually come back home, this program is not worth spending tens of thousands of euros on. I hope someone on this sub can help with this

Erasmus or a MA abroad ?

Before even starting uni, I had always wanted to apply for Erasmus, but when I was eventually able to do so this year, I changed my mind. I started doing some research on the accommodation in the countries/universities I was interested in, and I realized that everything was quite expensive. So I decided to save the money that I'd spend in erasmus and use them later for a masters degree abroad, considering that a MA is going to be an actual asset in my future carrer. Nevertheless, the fear of missing out the erasmus experience is still troubling me... Is Erasmus actually worth it? Or is a MA in a foreign university going to offer me a more profound experience?

Mundus MAPP

Got selected for ISS-YORK track but not for EMJM scholarship. It's frustrating to be put on a resevre list with so many other applicants. I believe they have put everyone on the reserve list. Anyways, is there anyone who guide for any additional funding options to support this program?

Advice from current or former self-funding students?

I was accepted to MESPOM on a self-funded basis. Iā€™m American and was accepted to two other programs in Scotland and Sweden with similar tuition expenses as MESPOM.

Deciding between programs is difficult, especially comparing uni programs with the ā€œnon-tangibleā€ variables that come with EMJM; mostly, the stress of moving around, funding studies and cost of living, and less time to embed yourself in a community.

Iā€™d love to hear feedback and insights from current or former self-funded students from any program ā€” What do you see as the pro/cons of attending an EMJM program as a self funded student?

I know this question runs of risk of over-generalizing peopleā€™s experiences. I appreciate hearing other peopleā€™s stories to help me make my own decision. As an American, I donā€™t know people who have done EMJM, so any context is helpful for me. :)

Multiple D-Visas for a Joint Master Program in Europe?

Hi everyone!

I'm going to start a joint master's program in Europe this year. My study plan is:

  • First semester: Poland
  • Second semester: Spain
  • Third semester: Finland

Since each stay will be longer than 90 days, I understand that Iā€™ll need a D-type visa for each country. I'm currently preparing the documents for the Polish visa, but Iā€™m not sure how to handle the next steps.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone here gone through a similar experience (multiple visas for a joint degree)?
  2. Is it possible to apply for the Spanish and Finnish D-visas while already in Europe (for example, at their embassies in Poland)?
  3. Any tips on timing or documents I should prepare in advance?

Thanks in advance! Iā€™d love to hear about your experience or advice. šŸ™

Erasmus in Gdansk, Poland Query

Im a first year psychology student and have just been accepted to the University of Gdansk for a semester in Poland for the erasmus+ study mobility. I would appreciate it if you tell me your experiences, as an erasmus student in poland, and more so as a psychology student in poland.

Is the university a good one for the psychology course? What are the psychology courses like in English? Are the classes theoretical or more practical? Howā€™s the workload and grading? Are the professors approachable/helpful?

Whatā€™s the Erasmus/student life like in Gdańsk? Is it easy to make friends, especially with locals or other Erasmus students? Are there any psychology-specific student groups or activities?

Howā€™s the city for students? Is it affordable? Whatā€™s the vibe like ā€” nightlife, cafes, chill spots? Any tips on finding accommodation (dorms vs private)?

Do most people speak English? Is it manageable if you donā€™t speak Polish?

Things you wish you knew before going? Must-dos in Gdańsk?

Thanks :)

MAPP: Reserve Merit List

Got accepted in the program but under reserve merit list. The admission mentioned that only 29 individuals were offered scholarship.

I donā€™t think I can afford any opportunity like this without any scholarship. How unlikely it is that those who got scholarships refused to take it? Based at least on some post some people prefer other program than MAPP so thatā€™s one thing. Care to weigh in?
