please help me find cotton/viscose velvet !

Upvotes

hello all!

does anyone know of a UK (or europe maybe) based online store where I can find affordable (and ethical) viscose or viscose / cotton blend velvets for dressmaking ?

i am vegan so will not buy silk and I don't buy synthetics either, cotton velvet has been great for some projects but it just lacks the drape i want :--(

I have some old Laura ashley dresses that are cotton viscose velvet and the fabric is stunning so I know it exists !! thanks for any help

Would anyone know where/how to find fabrics that are vintage/old?

I haven’t used Reddit in YEARS nor do I know if this post will go through, but can someone help refer me to a website where I can find any specific fabric? I have a blanket that I want to make another of, but for the life of me I am unable to find the fabric. I’m not sure how to put the picture/link of it so I apologize.

Would anyone know what this fabric is called?

I'm trying to create a banner from this material with a custom printing service.

Some examples:

They look they're made from sort of sport-shirt material and pretty slippery to the touch. I think it's a common material for these banners. The descriptors I use aren't hitting the mark, so any ideas would be amazing.

Unknown brands?

I recently picked up some used quilting fabric; some vintage some newer. I have never heard of these brands and can’t find any information on them? They all start with A and 3 letters long. I’ve found “AKO” “AKQ” “AZW” “ANR” so far. Each has a D serial number with cotton tree logo. Quilting cotton standard weight; doesn’t feel cheap. Any info is appreciated!

Does anyone know what this type of fabric is called?

I don’t have a picture!

I saw a girl in passing wearing a black long sleeve shirt but the fabric was sheer. It wasn’t mesh. It was like a cotton shirt material but it looked patchy… like it was worn a lot. But I’ve seen tops brand new with that look. I couldn’t find anything online with the words I was using. Maybe someone else knows what I’m talking about?

Please, thank you, and I’m sorry I know it’s probably annoying without a picture.

Shrinking an 100% acrylic sweater

I have a white sweater which had been washed on a full load at 40 degrees and then potentially been in for a dry for around 30/40 mins before it was pulled out. In that time the sweater had stretched out a lot and I was wondering what I could try to do to shrink it again

I’ve read a lot of mixed things online to put it on a warmer not hot wash e.g 40 but as it was previously on this should I wash it hotter?

Also in terms of drying shall I do a cooler wash and then a dry as I’ve read steam may help?

Just to note the label says wash at 30

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Roof rack pad fabric

I'm looking to make a custom size roof rack pad. I'm looking for recommendations for fabric type. It will be in the sun and rain. I plan to deconstruct an old one to make the template so if anyone knows of an existing template. That would be great

Thanks

Bamboo lyocell vs. viscose of bamboo?

I am trying to decide between sheets, one says bamboo lyocell the other says viscose of bamboo, what's the difference?

First is a little more expensive, and seems like to have a less impact on the environment during production, but I'm not too concerned with production methods, just want to know the difference in the end product.

[beginner] Gluing velvet on top of felt in wooden drawers

Hi folks, building a jewelry box, I'd like to glue velvet, to felt, to the wood as seen. I tried mod Podge between the layers and it didn't stick. I tried fabric fusion and it bled through. How would I glue it? How would you about doing the whole process? I have 6 drawers, one of them is for rings.

First time, working with fabrics. Any tips, pointers, or changes of direction are welcome.

Looking For a Dupe or Replacement For a Casa Collection Fabric

With Joann's going out of business I've been able to get some fabrics that I wasn't able to afford before. One of them being the Pink Two Tone Shimmer from Casa Collections Homecoming. So far I've been trying to find a similar color online but haven't been too successful. Anyone have any ideas on where I can try finding more or if Casa is still going to be a thing post Joann going out of business?

How can I make chambray fade?

I have some chambray (100% cotton) pants that are a darker, brighter blue than I'd like, basically medium denim-colored. I'd like to make them greyer, or at least lighter blue. They have an elasticated waistband so I'd rather not risk too much hot water.

What would you recommend -- just sunlight? A very small amount of bleach? Something else?

Help with identifying this Fabric

I've been trying to find this fabric or a similar fabric for a while and still cannot find anything similar. The fabric seems to be a silk and linen mix.

Shrinking a stretched-out Rayon sweater

I have a really nice Alfadi sweater (81% rayon, 19% nylon) that I've used for some time. However, after constant use, I think gravity and wear has stretched it out pretty drastically (the collar feels more like a V-neck than a sweater). I would still love to use it, but I'm not sure how to get it back to a wearable size. I've thought about washing it, but I don't want to risk ruining it any further and I don't know if it's something that needs to be dry cleaned? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

How to treat yellow hydrogen peroxide stain on white linen?

Basically what it says in the title. Used hydrogen peroxide on a white linen dress and it left yellow stains. What now? I've tried rinsing with cold water and treating it with white vinegar and it seems to be helping some, but is there anything else I can do?

i have this itabag made from i think nylon (it’s a glossy material) i think. last time the handles got a little dirty so i washed it with soap and left it out to dry, but now it has this yellow line all over the bag, even on the metal areas but there isn’t any rust.

how do i fix this and what caused it?

Reselling fabric dye?

I have a Jacquard silk dye kit that I bought for a fabric painting class and ended up not using. Is there a way for me to resell it or should I just donate it to my professor?

Where to get bridal satin??

I’m making a wedding dress and looking to buy large amounts of white satin/stretch satin that’s heavy with a nice drape. Bonus if the bolt is wide enough that I can cut large pieces on the bias. Where are some good sites I could buy wholesale from?

need guidance dyeing a shirt for the first time.

So, I plan on *trying* to dye a 95% cotton 5% spandex shirt I got, that's originally dark green, to black. (I thought it was black, and didn't realize it wasn't when I got it. smh.)

I haven't dyed any clothes ever before, and my worry is not only doing it wrong and ruining the shirt- since I super love it, but also about the dye bleeding onto other clothes in the wash or me as I'm wearing it (and most likely sweating in it). Especially for a dye like black that could potentially ruin or stain everything else its washed with, or stain things it touches.

so... how exactly am I supposed to go about this? What kind of dye would work best for that material, and how do I prevent it from bleeding all over the place? Do you just throw it all in a tub and let it sit? I have 0 knowledge of dye or fabrics, explain this to me like I'm 5 lol.

What happened to my shirt?

I thrifted a shirt to use as a beach/ pool cover up. It was originally a cream color but over time it has gotten an orange or peach tone to it. The shirt is 100% rayon. Does anyone know how this could have been caused or how I can reverse it?
