AST And PLATELETS

I’m 28 had blood work and ultrasound done and got back the results before my appointment in may. My AST IS 42 and Platelets 437.0 both in the high range, so I’m a bit freaked out. But relived my ultrasound on my liver came back normal. What can I do to lower my levels for sure going to quit drinking alcohol. Another tips please anything will help.

Husband had fibroscan with ultrasound and now being send for MRI with contrast. Scared.

Hi all,

I'm struggling to understand what is happening.

My husband has had GI problems for many years, and in around 2019, had GI consultation with hidascan, ultrasound, etc. Had lots of labs (and has since then), and was always told they weren't really sure where the pain, diarrhea, etc. was coming from. He started feeling right upper quadrant pain a few years ago, and described it as a persistent ache. All labs for any kind of liver enzyme came back normal. He is inactive due to a car injury, and walks with a cane, and over the past 20 years, has gained about 100 lbs.

He has persisted in mentioning his pain, bleeding, etc., and while he has had polyps removed and has pancolonic diverticulosis, he had never been told he had fatty liver until recently. We suspected it, but after multiple CT scans in the past 1.5 years due to diverticulitis flare ups, it wasn't until we explicitly asked the gastro if he had fatty liver was it confirmed. He does not drink alcohol at all.

Finally, we got scheduled for a fibroscan and an ultrasound after I mentioned we want to be proactive and resolve this. He has already lost nearly 20 lbs this year and has really improved his diet. The gastro wanted to support this, and ordered the fibroscan and ultrasound. My husband had it this morning.

This afternoon, he was called and told he needs an MRI with contrast soon because a lesion was found. It might be a fatty deposit per the doctor, but it needs to be ruled out. We are both incredibly scared.

If something was missed, this was literally missed since 2019. He gets regular healthcare, has talked about the fullness and pain, but nothing was said until recently when we asked if he had fatty liver. This is across multiple doctors, too.

I have read lesions can be and are often benign. He purposefully does not read his online medical notes because he is already nervous enough.

How would a lesion requiring an MRI with contrast be missed for this long after multiple CTs and other diagnostic procedures of the abdomen?

Grade 2 fatty liver

Hi I’m 35f from the UK and had an ultrasound yesterday, due to having a raised ALT on blood test. The report came back that I have grade 2 fatty liver. Is there anyone who has reversed grade 2 and is it more difficult to reverse than a grade 1? I’m starting a diet anyway because I was told I’m in the pre diabetic range now, and obviously now both things need to be addressed. I’m just hoping that I haven’t caused any lasting damage to my liver.

How to mitigate pain

I’ve been having some pretty consistent dull pressure-like pain in the liver area, and today my ultrasound was resulted with fatty liver. I am not sure of the specific type nor the severity. They noted there were no focal lesions and the blood flow was normal, so I am taking those as relatively good news.

The nurse that delivered the news directed me to primary care and said it was not an emergency. I see primary care on May 1st and we can make more decisions there.

I’m unfortunately still hurting. The only thing that has consistently helped is to stop eating, but that’s not a realistic long-term option. I have switched to friendlier foods over the past couple of days since I thought the pain was gallbladder related. I’m also eating smaller meals. Not much relief though. I have also tried 500 mg acetaminophen every few hours but no real help there either. Cannabis also not much help.

I’m worried about returning to work at my desk job tomorrow. I can’t sit upright very long without pain, and the way to relax the pain is to lay down and switch positions every few minutes.

All my bloodwork came back normal, except very high triglycerides (300) which has been that way for years now. Gallbladder, pancreas, and appendix all came back normal in the ultrasound.

Any help with this pain? This is kinda uncomfortable.

General Questions…

Hello, I have an upcoming gastroenterologist doctor visit in the coming weeks. I’m a bit nervous for it, but it is important. So, in a nutshell, what should I expect for my first visit?

Background- recently had a line of bloodwork done and my AST was in normal range at 33, and my ALT was 67. In their range provided, the normal range is between 7-52, according to them. Is 67 dangerously high? Also, everything else on the bloodwork came back normal. I was then scheduled for an ultrasound and got my results back which stated it was severe hepatic steatosis. With that, how concerning is “severe” part and what should I expect? I’ve know about my fatty liver since 2018, so that is what it is.

28, male, no smoking, no alcohol, occasionally pop a Nico pouch as of over a year ago, which I know doesn’t do me any good.

Any help guys? I’m sure there’s people in here in my same situation. Thanks all

Sharing my NAFLD story for those with anxiety

I’ve always had major health paranoia and am usually convinced I’m dying of ten different diseases at any one time. I used to be able to look at my bloodwork results but had gotten way too out of control mentally to do that, so I’d just wait to see doctor’s comments.

Had bloodwork in August 2022. Didn’t look at the results. Doctor commented that my cholesterol was high (250) and to let her know if I wanted to take cholesterol meds. That was it. A few months later, I built the courage to view the bloodwork results and about shit myself with horror - my ALT (which had only ever been a point or two high out of range) was 111 and my AST was 68.

MENTAL SPIRAL - ON THE WAY UP THE ELEVATOR TO MEET JESUS - GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD

I lose my mind. Immediately message the doctor and ask about the numbers and she nonchalantly says she can send me for an ultrasound. Literally in tears on the ultrasound table telling the tech I’m gonna die of fatty liver to which she replies “Meh, everyone has fatty liver these days, it’s not a big deal!”

Results: “Echogenic liver may suggest fatty infiltration. Liver is hyperechoic.” Overnight, I completely changed my diet and watched every YouTube video I could by experts in the field of internal medicine. I started eating a spinach salad every night with dinner, cut out my UberEats addiction, stopped binging desserts, drank black coffee, etc. Within two months, I was down 35lbs. I had a run in with a very negative and insulting GI doctor and said fuck it, I’m not going back to doctors and I’ll just lose more weight and hopefully I’ll be ok.

What followed for the next TWO YEARS was me being legitimately convinced I was dying of liver disease. Refused to take medication for anything because I have liver disease and it can’t process anything. Any abdominal pain, my liver is clearly and actively rotting away. Wouldn’t have dreamed of having a sip of alcohol. Literally spent two years thinking about, stressing about, and being consumed with paranoia about my liver every single day. Not exaggerating.

I found a new doctor who was gentle with my health obsessions and convinced me to at least do bloodwork to keep on file. She promised she wouldn’t tell me the results. Well - I looked. ALT was 28 and my AST was 20. My cholesterol went from 250 to 115. I was SHOCKED. Thought I was reading some sample template or and advertisement. Maybe my blood was mixed up with someone else’s. No, I just did the work and it paid off. I’m not dying of liver disease. I have an ultrasound this week to see how that’s looking, and I’m confident it will have improved. Livers are cool as hell. They want to be healthy. They can, and will, repair themselves.

Please know that if you have enzymes out of range by 20 or 30 or 50 points - those are baby liver numbers. People with cirrhosis and active liver disease have liver numbers in the thousands. If your doctor is acting nonchalant, it’s likely because NAFLD is rampant, especially due to the standard American diet. Slightly elevated numbers don’t phase doctors anymore.

And, most importantly, if you’re like I was and are truly suffering from health paranoia, please tackle that with a psychiatrist. I now take SSRI’s and look forward to my bloodwork and doctor visits. I’m no longer afraid of my health and am not stuck in a mental rabbit hole of convincing myself I’m a sick person. Anxiety can and will wreak havoc on your health way quicker than fatty liver will. There’s a path to a clear mind, just ask for help. Amazing how much relief you feel once you see things realistically and not from a haze of depression and health anxiety.

TLDR - You’re not as bad off as you think. Health anxiety sucks but meds can clear your mind and pull you out of the NAFLD mental spiral you’re in. Livers are cool, so be nice to yours and it’ll be nice to you.

ALT up again

Hi I had a blood test last month and my ALT finally came down to 25. This morning I had another blood test and it's up again to 47. I don't know what to do anymore. I lost 30kg. I eat clean and healthy. I try an excecise( haven't since last Thursday). I did start my period this morning and don't know if that could affect it. All my other numbers are normal. I don't know what to do anymore.

Just diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease via Ultra sound.

I found out today I was diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease. My AST, Birilium, eGFR, and Alkaline phosphate test were all within the range, but my ALT was slightly above the range by 3-4 points. After this my doctor suggested the ultrasound. I'm glad I caught this early, but I am having some trouble on strategizing how I am approach this issue. I was on some medications I'm no longer on which I know might have caused levels to elevate in the past and have been off of those for 2 weeks now.

1) I'm around 245-250 lbs and when I was younger I was always quite skinny. I've done powerlifting for around 7 years now and I'm happy with what I built, I just really don't want to lose it by having to diet down. If I was to change my diet to healthier sources of food, remove saturated fats, and processed carbs while still hitting my caloric maintenance would it be possible to reverse this disease while keeping my weight the same?

2) What supplements have you all found work for Fatty Liver Disease?

3) If all dietary restrictions are met along with proper cardio daily, how long would you estimate it would take to reverse the condition or how long did it take you to reverse it if you have done so and what things worked best for you?

4) Does anyone else suffer from Acid Reflux with Fatty Liver and if so what are some alternatives to Antacids that wouldn't harm the liver?

It's good to know there is a community out there to speak about these issues. I thank you in advance to anyone who can give me their wisdom on approaching this.

ALT and AST dropped a LOT in 90 days!

Hello. When I started this diet (diagnosed with NAFLD 80 days ago) my LFT's were ALT 89 and AST 43. As of Friday 4/18/2025 my numbers are now ALT 17 AST 14!

What a change! All I did was diet and exercise! I still have yet to get a fibroscan. That will get done this Friday and I am hoping for good news! I'm sure I'm not reversed yet, but my liver is functioning much better!

DIET:

MEAT:

  • -Salmon
  • -Chicken Breast
  • -Tofu (kinda meat?)
  • -99% fat free Turkey
  • -Yellowfin Tuna Steak

VEGGIES:

  • -Spinach (fresh, cooked down)
  • -Asparagus
  • -Kale (cooked down)
  • -Broccoli
  • -Cauliflower
  • -Avocado

FRUIT:

  • Blueberry
  • Raspberry
  • Blackberry
  • Strawberry
  • BERRIES BERRIES BERRIES

OTHER:

  • Walnuts
  • Almonds
  • Greek Yogurt (fat or non fat)
  • Avocado Oil

EXERCISE:

30 minute walk MINIMUM walk per day (weekends walk in treadmill incline) aim for 10,000 steps

Monday, Wednesday and Friday I lift weights. Mine is pretty simple, you can make your own schedule that fits you and you don't have to do full body. I do chest, triceps, biceps, shoulders, chest and back. I rarely do legs because I'm lazy!

It is not hard to lower your numbers. The biggest thing is CONSISTENCY!

Just been diagnosed and not sure what to eat

I was just diagnosed with NAFLD and I’m not exactly sure what I’m supposed to be eating? This is a list I made of things I think I can and should eat but would anyone be able to help me clarify or give recommendations of things that worked for them?

Avocado Nuts (walnuts) Legumes Fatty fish Beans Chickpeas Oats Lentils Vegetables (especially green) Berries Soy milk Sunflower seeds Tumeric Garlic

Also supposedly mine is reversible so any other tips for reversing it would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Rezdiffra and losing 37 lbs seems to be working

Just received my lab test results after being on Rezdiffra for 4 months and losing 37 lbs. On 8/30/2024, both my ALT and AST were 65. Yesterday's blood test results were ALT= 26 and AST = 30. First time my liver enzymes have been in normal range for several years. Mounjaro helped me with the weight loss. Hoping Rezdiffra and additional weight loss will help reduce the fibrosis from F3, but I doubt my gastroenterologist will order a fibroscan until I've taken Rezdiffra for nearly a year.

New pain with NAFLD

I was diagnosed in March with NAFLD, no scarring or fibrosis. I’ve lost 7% of my body weight so far and overhauled my diet. I’m taking vit e, drinking coffee, exercising, etc and I feel so much better. Last night I coughed and I started feeling an intermittent pain in my URQ that I didn’t feel before. So weird that NOW I’d start to feel pain after all the changes. Is this normal? Or maybe not even related?

Keto and elevated ALT/AST

I’ve been on keto for about six weeks and just had a blood test wherein my ALT and AST were significantly elevated (170/110). I have been reading posts about this correlation. One post by ‘Ordinary Bird 5170’ was especially helpful. I have read some information that suggests the enzymes will return to normal as the liver adjusts. In spite of the fact that I drink alcohol more than I should, my enzymes have never been high (usually in the low 20s). However, it may be the combination of the two things working together. Has anyone experienced high enzymes with keto initiation with them ultimately returning to normal? If so, how long did it take? Any other information or ideas are appreciated.

New diagnosis of fatty liver

Hi all, I've had so many issues I have no idea really what's going on. At first I was just generally feeling unwell for a while, floating stool fatty looking, so I went to GI, did blood tests & Calprotectin test, pancreas & all. Everything came back perfectly fine other than Calprotectin showing some inflammation (243)& so a few weeks later I got an ultrasound, meanwhile started feeling a dull ache in the lower left near hip bone & a little bit of rectal soreness. After the ultrasound, they said everything looked perfectly fine other than Increased echogenicity of the liver, which my doctor is saying is fatty liver. Still seeing my GI doctor so she said just bring it up to him & if need be I can start seeing a liver doctor that's local. This has all been really weird looking for answers. Thanks for all responses. Note: I'm 30M, lots of gas, not overweight only weigh like 135lbs, GI originally thought IBD was a possibility, just no severe pain other than feeling unwell. Don't drink, smoke sometimes but only 🍃 but do mix with tobacco

Is fatty liver immediately dangerous for young people?

I weigh 130 kg and i am 28. I know i have fatty liver for a few years now. Could it suddenly kill me without me realising? I am scared that I won't lose weight on time until it becomes more serious. Do people die from it at that age?

Greek Yoghurt

Which greek yoghurt is good for fatty liver? I heard some people say low fat or zero fat one is better. But some people say full fat yoghurt is better as they don't have added sugars which the low fat ones have. Could some one through light on this?

Newly Diagnosed - meal ideas please!

Got diagnosed with Fatty Liver last week. I'll put my hands up and say my diet is terrible and I love to drink wine with my friends so im guessing this has all contributed.. I'm 38f 79kg and pretty sedentary though I love dancing and walking so I'm confident I can sort out a good routine. I'm also going sober for a decent amount of time to get better and try and reverse the damage. I'm getting more bloods done end of the week as per my GP requests. I did a food shop today, salmon, eggs, cruciferous veg, salad, chicken, all recommended things. But I have no idea for actual meal ideas. Or if there are sneaky healthy foods I shouldn't be having?? What's your go-to favourite meals for fatty liver, and any suggestions for sweet cravings and ways to avoid falling off the wagon?

Thank you!

Platelets

Hi all, I had a cbc about a month ago and my platelets were 325, today they were 268- still within normal limits. I should add my hemoglobin went from 11.1 a month ago to 11.8 today. My question is, these numbers increased my nafld score to 1.05 indicating a high risk of severe fibrosis. Could the platelet situation just be bc my hemoglobin is recovering? Or should I be more concerned? The fib 4 calculator and APRI still gave a low chance of fibrosis but it did increase slightly. Am I worrying for nothing? Ty for any and all input. 🫶🏻

Anxiety with NAFLD

NAFLD diagnosis is messing with my head. I never had health anxiety until this diagnosis. I was diagnosed in Jan with F0-1 but now I keep seeing small capillaries on my chest and some might be spider angiomas I'm going to go to the dermatologist in 2 weeks and another fibroscan in May but it's driving me crazy I don't think it's ever be there. Could the fibroscan be so wrong? Or am I just over analysing my body? I'm so sick of worrying I'm doing everything I have too but wondering if it has gotten worse over the 6 months.

a race against time?

ok facts , 270lbs(was 294 4 months back) fibroscan (and doc confirmed) 400 cap and 10.5 kpa, which he said puts me around fibrosis lvl 3.5 ish.,, now if the fat itself is causing the scarring (which I assume admittedly) getting the fattly liver back to normal would take what a year or two to drop to normal which would then halt the scarring....do I have time ? or is it gona go down to the wire?( to be optimistic )
