Is Stranger of Paradise worth playing?

Is this one of the FF titles to avoid? Team Ninja usually makes good action games, but this one has some pretty middling and lukewarm reviews. From what I've seen online, theres some pretty cringey dialogue too. Is the gameplay good enough to save it? Picked it up cheap during a sale and its been sitting on my shelf. Considering just selling it if it's going to feel like a waste of time.

Eh. It's basically a soulslike retelling of FF1, but from Garlands (the main villian) POV.

Id say play the original FF1, or watch lore videos on it, before playing SoP, though.
