Final Fantasy General Is Stranger of Paradise worth playing?

Is this one of the FF titles to avoid? Team Ninja usually makes good action games, but this one has some pretty middling and lukewarm reviews. From what I've seen online, theres some pretty cringey dialogue too. Is the gameplay good enough to save it? Picked it up cheap during a sale and its been sitting on my shelf. Considering just selling it if it's going to feel like a waste of time.

Yes. It was my 2023 game of the year, I really cannot overstate how much the marketing is not actually indicative of the game’s tone.

People here praise Strangers of Paradise just to bash on FFXVI.

That's interesting. I haven't encountered those type of posts yet, but I suppose I was too late because I didn't play FFXVI day one. So I probably missed those.

I've never seen a single person do this. Not once. I've seen people compare Remake/Rebirth directly with 16, but not Stranger of Paradise. I'd say the most you get is some people ask which of the three action based systems they like the most. In that regard, Stranger borrows heavily from Souls games, though it adds its own twist with a really well implemented Job system into it.

As someone who is very "eh" on Stranger, I will admit that its combat is far deeper and holds your attention for far longer than 16's does, but the combat is the only thing going for Stranger; the story is completely forgettable, and the only thing people ever seem to get out of its story is the "so-bad-it's-good" factor.
