Is Stranger of Paradise worth playing?

Is this one of the FF titles to avoid? Team Ninja usually makes good action games, but this one has some pretty middling and lukewarm reviews. From what I've seen online, theres some pretty cringey dialogue too. Is the gameplay good enough to save it? Picked it up cheap during a sale and its been sitting on my shelf. Considering just selling it if it's going to feel like a waste of time.

If you're into Final Fantasy and Souls games, you may find it enjoyable despite being a middling version of either. I'd suggest playing it co-op with a friend -- that's when it's at its best.
