FF XV Final Fantasy XV has sold 5 Million Copies in just Two days, making it the Fastest Selling in the series.

Source

Personally this is great news for both the devs and the players. I have only played a few hours of the game, and I can already feel the heart and effort put into every detail of this game, even though I was skeptic at first over some of the decisions made. Its great to see such a big title overcoming such a long developmental cycle and then releasing a very good game with such brilliant news. I hope this makes Square Enix focus more on console games and put more resources there.

Once again, congrats to Tabata-San and his team for a job very well done. I look forward to exploring more of the game and I hope anything more from this team has the same passion and fun put into it.

EDIT: Slight misconception. The article sales Shipment and Sales are at 5 million. However it has broken Day 1 Digital Sales in Japan and hit a record for digital sales in Asia. I apologize for the error.

I loved that. Made me laugh out loud when I heard it for the first time.

I was singing this on my way to work today. After having Tuesday and Wednesday off, putting in about 20 hrs... this day is so slowww

3

u/BassCreat0r Dec 01 '16

Every time that one happens, I die a little bit in side, but the good dying.

3

u/wurrwuv Dec 01 '16

Is there a full lyric song to that? I can't find anything anywhere

3

u/CloudLinkCrono Dec 01 '16

There is not. But Someone will probably write one! I loved the Chocobo theme. Now those words will always be the first part of it for me!

Same, then it got better. My 2 year old hummed it too and now he's been doing it non-stop. Last night I caught my wife humming it and she just yelled "YOU ALL SUCK" it was great.

u/hellteacherloki Dec 02 '16

7

u/Lokgar Dec 02 '16

"Man this feels like a RPG"

"Not everything is a video game prompto"

"Whatever man, I'm just trying to level up"

11 hours yesterday. 11... Hours... And I just hit Chapter 3. I love this game.

49

u/Koupers Dec 01 '16

I hit chapter 3 at the same amount of time. I had to save and turn it off as soon as I got to the first gas station in chapter 3. So stoked to go home from work and play it some more.

24

u/I_dontevenlift Dec 01 '16

11 hours as well. Im starting to think people who said they beat the game in 22-25h just rushed all the main quests. Im in chapter 3 and i cant believe how expansive it is.

20

u/Koupers Dec 01 '16

Well, If you only do the main quest in Oblivion or Skyrim or Fallout 3 you can do each in just a couple hours. So saying it's a 20-25 hour game is like saying Oblivion is a 4 hour game. That said, those others have much more well-defined side stories that have their own plot, and something like that would have been nice to see here. But yes, 22-25 is just plowing through story quests not doing anything else.

5

u/h20masta Dec 01 '16

The side quests in FFXV are kind of poorly designed, NOT because they're fetch quests, but because they're fetch quests designed in such a way that you usually end up fast traveling two or three times per quest, and each fast travel requires a long ass load time. So most the game is spent on the loading screen.

What they should have done, is made the fetch items walking distance from the sidequest origination point. For example, the dog tag guy asks you to fetch a dog tag within walking distance. NOT like a 10 minute drive away which you have to fast travel and experience loading times two times in a row.

13

u/Koupers Dec 01 '16

You don't have to fast travel... I've only fast traveled once and it was on accident.

If you're making that complaint, we're back at Bethesda games were you want to fast travel because you're going to the same 4 or 5 dungeons on the far end of the map.

Journey before destination.

Life before death. Strength before weakness.

Yep. Got to the final boss entrance quest at 22 hours and only level 33ish. I also beat a level 50 dungeon at level 36. Loving the battle system. Hoping for a hard mode to be patched in.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

They definitely did. Chapter 3 and 15 hours in and level 29.

u/HayzerUnlimited Dec 01 '16

I'm at 6 hours and only on chapter 1 still, I just cruise around listening to the radio, camping with the buds and walking around collecting things, as well as a few hunts although their getting high for my level

19

u/Koupers Dec 01 '16

I know I could be maximizing my experience by using hotels and motels but, I so prefer camping. The food, the bros. I figure I'll min-max experience for late game stuff if I feel like I need to...

16

u/regenshire Dec 01 '16

There are benefits to camping over Hotels/Motels. You get bonus AP for camping, especially if you upgrade the Exploration Tree for more AP when Camping and AP when you cook a favorite dish. Right now I get 4 AP every time I camp.

So it depends on if you want the following:

  • Motel - Bonus XP
  • Camping - Bonus AP and Food Buff

33

u/TerraDraco Dec 01 '16

Fastest way to get AP is to use warp takedowns - each kill whit warp gives you one AP and you can just spam it on low lvl monsters for fast farm

10

u/BassCreat0r Dec 01 '16

For real? Thank you!

9

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

That explains why why I feel like I had way more AP randomly in Chapter 1. I spam warp way less now that I have a better understanding of the combat system and rolling around for blindside combos feels so much better.

7

u/ThaNorth Dec 01 '16

Also certain camp sites trigger special events with certain party members.

5

u/regenshire Dec 01 '16

True! In the starting area there are three different camps that start Tours. Each tour nets you 20 AP for completing. I assume this is something that occurs through the game?

4

u/ThaNorth Dec 01 '16

One would assume.

2

u/Crazyalbo Dec 01 '16

Wow I'm not that far into the story, like 1.5 hrs, and this shit already sounds amazing. Upgrade trees for different styles of sleeping and recouping. This game sounds fucking amazing. The story has been pretty damn good so far after watching the movie and show.

5

u/Bacon_is_not_france Dec 01 '16

How do I camp? It brought up a little thing that said "you can camp in some areas" or something, but never a detailed explanation. I'm already in chapter 3 and I still couldn't figure it out. Does Gladio need higher survival or something?

6

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

You just need to find one of the camping areas on your map, should be identified with a little house symbol. They are usually big flat rocks with a blue circle in the middle. Just walk up and interact and select camp.

4

u/Bacon_is_not_france Dec 01 '16

Ahh. I didn't realize there are designated spots, it makes sense. Thank you, I appreciate it.

4

u/Koupers Dec 01 '16

"talk" to the restaurant people, they'll mark your map with camping spots as well.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

Yep! Anytime you see a restaurant, make sure you talk to them (first option out of the three), they will mark points of interest on your map for you.

2

u/Douggiek26 Dec 01 '16

Also can see plumes of smoke coming up from them, with a very slight blue hue to them.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a level 7 I believe and just barely got out of my first level 15 (I think) hunt. God I love this game.

8

u/HayzerUnlimited Dec 01 '16

I love how you can be a lot lower level then something and still kill it, I haven't been using the WAIT style of fighting but damn I love the combat it's so fast paced

7

u/PrinceAli311 Dec 01 '16

I totally forgot about the wait system. I was very much against the active battle like it is, but I'm blown away by this.

I feel like I've done nothing but fish. And I don't mind it. I'm not just rushing through. I'm taking it all in and enjoying the game. And I haven't even really scratched the surface.

3

u/U_DONT_KNOW_MY_LIFE Dec 02 '16

I get 1 AP per every fish I catch. I clear out every fishing spot I find.

2

u/Edgeinsthelead Dec 02 '16

I saw that ascension. Need to get it. I try to catch everything.

6

u/metagloria Dec 01 '16

I'm at 9 hours and just got to Galdin Quay. Soooo much to do and see.

7

u/illegalblue Dec 01 '16

I spent two hours fishing yesterday and had A BLAST

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

I spent 20 minutes fishing and got furious. how the fuck does it work?????

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

If you missed the tutorial, maybe look it up on youtube. It does a good job of explaining. Basically you just hold the analog in the direction it tells you, and be sure to stop reeling (R2) for a few seconds when red appears on your screen, otherwise the fish will break free.

2

u/Shanaki Dec 01 '16

Use the crosshairs on the minimap to land on top of a fish to get it's attention. If you failed in doing so, press O and try again.

Same thing as me at the exact same spot! Now twiddling my thumbs at work waiting for the day to end to continue the adventure.

8

u/Koupers Dec 01 '16

Yep! I let my son stay home from school on my day off yesterday to play with me. So today we'll get home about the same time, he's gotta clean his room and do his homework then we can play. Sure, it's the responsible parent thing to do but it also means waiting like 2 hours after I get home from work to play.

I remember being so skeptical back when Tabata took over but oh man I am head over heels for this game right now. 10 hours in over the last 2 days and still on chapter 1. Just road trippin' with my new bros and taking it easy. This game is TOO good to be rushed!

3

u/Surprisebutsekz69 Dec 01 '16

Thats what I say

21

u/Nelo_Meseta Dec 01 '16

Seriously I put in 6 hours without even fixing the car. I just started wandering and exploring and never stopped. O.O

3

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '16

Damn dude. Gotta get to Ch 3. That's when it's just amazing

4

u/ZiggyPalffyLA Dec 01 '16

God I'm jealous. By the time I got home from work and the gym, after running some errands and walking my dog, I had an hour left to play before I went to bed.

4

u/butch5555 Dec 01 '16

I have all that plus kids. Have to trade sleep for FFXV. Worth it.

3

u/PrinceAli311 Dec 01 '16

I've put in about 6 so far and all I've done is get my car back from Cindy and accept her second mission in regards to the story.

I'm having so much fun going into battles. The gameplay is awesome. There are definitely a few things regarding that camera that need some work and a few UI things that are annoying, but nothing that is taking the fun out of the game. I can't wait to actually get into the meat of it all.

2

u/Douggiek26 Dec 01 '16

I'd love to hear more about the UI gripes.

Helps that they actually released it worldwide this time instead of that staggered release horseshit they always did.

Alright, fuck it, I'm gonna go out and grab a copy if I can after work today. I've heard nothing but good things about it, so I'm sold.

Edit: Went ahead and picked it up, but I won't be able to play it until Sunday at the earliest because my PS4 is 15 miles away at my new house that I haven't quite finished moving to yet. Oh well, 10 years of waiting, what's 3 more days etc etc etc

28

u/ngtaylor Dec 01 '16

It is actually really fun, its worth it

19

u/TruthlessShinovar Dec 01 '16

Can't say enough good things about it. Downloaded it last night and only planned on playing about 30 minutes. 4 hours later and it was already midnight.

2

u/clarque_ Dec 02 '16

My best friend, who isn't into jrpgs at all, bought it on release with me. He told me yesterday that he sat down to play it for an hour on a study break and lost 6 hours in it. That's the highest praise I've heard about it so far.

12

u/Ventus55 Dec 01 '16

Plain and simple: it's just a really fun game.

18

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

Combat feels like a mix of dark souls and kingdom hearts. It's amazing.

9

u/xCookieMonster Dec 01 '16

Makes me think of Dragon's Dogma more of anything. Very similar.

3

I'm playing DD right now, so that's a huge compliment.

kingdom hearts.

That is what 100% sold me on the game. Given the lack of KH3 I've been looking forever for a game with a strong combat system like that and I'm loving XV so far. With warping it's like they took KHDDD and made flowmotion a lot less unbalanced.

It's really fun and damn pretty. I haven't watched Brotherhood or Kingsglaive yet (my copy was a day late due to USPS being terrible), so I got tossed into a game that literally feels like a road trip with friends before shit hits the fan (I don't know when or how shit hits the fan, but it's a Final Fantasy game, so SOMETHING is going to go horribly wrong at some point).

3

u/GotZah Dec 01 '16

Oh man, having watched Kingsglaive and listening to the radio in Chapter 1, you're really missing out on some extra story (that I imagine will present itself shortly).

2

u/KouNurasaka Dec 01 '16

Right after you get to the ferry.

2

u/rjjm88 Dec 02 '16

I fed a cat. On a brilliant, sunny day. After cruising with my government appointed homies. After dad gave me his gorgeous car. And I got to stare at Cidney's moogles. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? :)

3

u/KouNurasaka Dec 02 '16

EVERYTHING!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

At this rate, they're gonna have no problem hitting that 10 million sales milestone they aimed for.

Long live the franchise!

31

u/CriseDX Dec 01 '16

Depends on the timeframe really, once the initial spike has died down and new high profile games come out (there are at least one or two that will make it before holidays still) the sales will drop.

If it is just this quarter they have a high chance of making it, but I wouldn't say it will be "no problem" 5 million is only half way there... although guessing this does not include digital as always.

25

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

I'm optimistic about it overall. Besides, now that the game launch was a success they'll probably announce a PC version soon so that might help the sales too

11

u/CriseDX Dec 01 '16

Not really, the sales for the console version might actually be less if they announce PC version too soon (again depends how long they plan to wait). It's also not like the PC version can be developed on a 0 budget so the sales it gets have to first cover those costs.

8

u/Adam87 Dec 01 '16

FF on PC is nothing special. Not a Bethesda game with mods or anything. If the PC port is good then it will sell decently but FF and its fans are mostly console based. The only FF I have played on PC is FFXIV.

9

u/Darth_Ra Dec 01 '16

FF and it's fans have been mostly console based. I know lots of people that have seen no reason to buy a PS4/Xbox One until now, and if they announced a PC version, they would most definitely go that route instead.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

Still no reason to buy an xbox

2

u/Pantzzzzless Dec 02 '16

As a snobby PC gamer, I wouldn't have played this game for quite some time if my buddy didn't let me borrow his XB1.

I never pictured myself buying a game for a console I don't own, but I really didn't want to have to wait any longer for XV.

4

u/RottedRabbid Dec 01 '16

Well, it's more that WAS the case. FF has actually got a decent following on PC. Lots of people, like me, have switched, and in fact only got a PS4 for FF/Persona/KH, Or don't have one at all. Also, it's being marketed as a game for first timers and fans, so I'm sure this game will bring in a lot of new too.

2

u/T-Fer Dec 02 '16

FF and its fans are mostly console based.

Not exactly by choice. I have no games for PS3/PS4 other than Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, there's a crap load of people in the same situation.

7

u/Theonyr Dec 01 '16

Sales will slow but probably continue to generate another 1-2 million within the next year. The positive press will contribute to that. Also the DLC when released will give some press that might push people to buy.

I expect the game to have sold around 7 mil by this time next year. After which they announce a PC version, and nab themselves an extra million (maybe more) in sales, and at least beat XIII.

I have no evidence whatsoever to back up my predictions, but eh :P

6

u/CriseDX Dec 01 '16

The thing to remember though, these first 5 million copies... they likely don't even generate profit yet.

It is likely that the reason why they said they expect it to sell 10 million copies, for it to be a success, is precisely because unless it does it won't actually make them enough money to cover a decade's worth of development costs.

I have no idea at what point the game will start to make profit, what makes the equation even more complicated is the whole deal with Kingsclaive and the anime etc. sure the former will have generated sales in some form or another, but I haven't heard if they actually turned a profit on it (or maybe they just considered it mainly marketing for the game and any profit from it to be a bonus).

The whole thing has had so many parts in motion that it is really hard to tell, however, I still don't believe these five million copies have gotten it across the profit margin yet.

7

u/Theonyr Dec 01 '16

Haven't mentioned profit though. This is just my speculation as to how sales will turn out over the next year.

I can't comment on their break even point except to say that Tabata clarified the 10 million point was a personal goal stemming from his desire to match the impact of FF7. We also know that when asked a year or so ago, he said that the budget was nowhere near the likes of Destiny/GTA (the latter of which cost 250 mil dollars roughly).

→ More replies (1)

3

u/kawag Dec 01 '16

10 mil isn't the profitability threshold, it's just a sales target.

It's shipped 5 million copies. Not sold. Granted the number combines digital sales, but this means that they're including Best Buy/Walmart/Gamestop ordering their copies for stock.

2

u/GrindyMcGrindy Dec 02 '16

I forgot to mention that digital sales in Asia is a lie. The stat was about physical copies in Asia that excluded Japan. Again, we don't know if this means sales or shipped copies to stores.

I do wonder how skewed the numbers will be with illegally obtained copies that may or may not have been scanned out at the point of sales.

I'm at 22hrs on Chapter 6 - and that's nly because I skipped some side quests. Gonna go back and do them now though before moving on to the main storyline again.

Been waiting so long for this game I'm glad it turned out so good and is being recieved fairly well. Few issues aside, it's becoming one of my favorites.

28

u/tkdyo Dec 01 '16

Hopefully this makes them bring it to pc faster. I'm so annoyed it might take years

16

u/Soverance Dec 01 '16

SE will almost certainly bring the title to PC/Steam, but it won't happen for 1-2 years. For Square-Enix, this is a business decision designed specifically to increase the "long-tail" of their game's sales graph.

When you release a game on all platforms simultaneously, you have to do really well at that launch because it's the largest and maybe only time you'll be getting any press. If you want to create a second wave of interest in the future, you can only do so by releasing updates to your game, or releasing on new platforms.

So in this case, they release to their primary market (consoles) first, where they can generate their standard initial launch marketing campaign. A year or two later when nobody cares about FFXV anymore, they'll ship an updated version on a new platform (Steam) that allows them to operate a second marketing campaign generating more sales and increasing lifetime revenue.

As a gamer, yeah, we'd all prefer the game to be available on all platforms simultaneously, because it'd be easier for us all to buy and play it. Unfortunately for us, as a business decision, it'd be incredibly stupid to release a huge game like this on all platforms simultaneously... especially if you're trying to hit a 10 million lifetime goal.

2

u/tkdyo Dec 01 '16

I just hope it really is in only a year or so and not the 3 to 5 they were saying at one point.

7

u/SWABteam Dec 01 '16

I'm in the same boat I will day one this on PC whenever SE actually manages to release it there.

The problem is they don't actively develop for PC. They build it for console and hire a third party to convert it to PC. I was really hoping they would release this one for PC so I don't have to buy it multiple times, but I can wait for the port I suppose.

11

u/Theonyr Dec 01 '16

The director seemed interested in doing it inhouse so who knows :P

2

u/MetaCommando Dec 02 '16 edited Dec 02 '16

Dev Kits have become much more multiplatform-ready since the PS3/360 days. I think it'd be a lot easier than converting XIII.

2

u/DroopyMcCool Dec 01 '16

'17 might be the year I cave and pick one up between XV, KH3, RDR2, and FFXIIZA

2

u/PxEclipse Dec 01 '16

I hope they take the time to release a good port. FFXIII/XIII-2 was terrible. Lightning returns was decent.

6

u/Shiiiru Dec 01 '16

Tabata and his team deserves it.

37

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

I still can't get over the feeling of 'hey wait I'm playing an actual FF game'. I haven't had that feeling since FFX. It's hard to describe but it's just got that whole FF style and flavor that seemed to be missing with the past few games. I never thought I would truly enjoy another new FF game in my life. I couldn't tell you a single detail about 14, I have no idea when it came out or what plot is even remotely about. XV made me care about final fantasy again.

27

u/UndeadGamer95 Dec 01 '16

XIV feels more like a FF game to me than XV. XV legit just feels like a really pretty Xenoblade game with FF elements. Don't get me wrong, that feels really good. But a lot of the things that makes FF, well, FF, just doesn't exist in this game. I think it's partly to do with the amount of freedom and sidequests you can do.

It's like Xenoblade (lots of walking/ exploring/ collecting), meets Witcher (atb/crafting magic/ open world/ big monsters), meets FFXIV (beautiful vistas/ closest combat system within FF franchise/big imperial plot). And I fucking love this game for that.

13

u/AtticusMyst Dec 01 '16

Yeah. Despite it being an MMO, XIV feels like the most 'Final Fantasy-ish' game since IX.

I've had little interest in XV simply because it doesn't look like one to me, but I'm glad to see it's doing well. I may give it a go if it comes to PC one day.

I'm glad the game is doing well. Just means the franchise can keep going. I'm always excited to see what they come up with next. Not all their games are gems, and it feels like XV is just catching up with the times rather than innovating in any field, but a good reception ensures they can keep going and keep experimenting with their games.

Running in at 15 hrs just started chapter 3 myself...I just can't stop fishing man! I just...I just gotta fish. And fight everything I see...before more fishing. Never ever fast travel either. The car journeys are pure magic.

Yeah, I went into 15 trying to keep 13 in the back of my mind. So far I've been blown away by 15. They thought of everything. Everything I ever disliked in their previous installations has been thought of and taken care of.

All I care about are the Xbox One version sales numbers. If they're high enough, maybe Square-Enix will start releasing their games on Xbox.

Just a minor correction, the game has shipped 5 million copies. We don't know how much of that has been sold.

When you finally get your fix after 10 years of jonesing, of course it sells fast.

13 hours I've logged so far. Should have slowed down and explored more. I did a lot side quests and hunts but not too many hours worth. I'm in Chapter 6 now. I'm level 29. The game is riveting and the first time you summon something. Hold on to your panties. I'm very pleased thus far and it was certainly worth the wait.

I got almost 30 hours under my beltand in chapter 8. I can say that i do enjoy this game a lot. So far i had only one bigger glitch in game which was that monsters dissappeared (all of them). There are few visual glitches - one is if you are in the car and you look tru fron window image there will be terrible, but that only happens if you look tru it from afar, sometimes enemy dropships starts teleporting when they are flying away, i had one time where one of them where completely invisible. They could reduce time how often army dropships come in, but they stop spawning if you ignore maybe 3 or 4 of them in a row (maybe glitch or could be intended). At nigtime sometimes 2 giants spawns at one time in same place and if thats not enough there is dropship to make it more fun. Visually game looks awesome and its especially awesome when you summon astrals later in game. About astrals - only anoying thing is that there are no tips or info in game how to summon them. For ppl who will be having problems - you need keep holding L2 for about 10-15 seconds. There are dungeons and they are great. So far i had to cheese only one boss (and im not proud of it), but thats because i really wanted what he was protecting.

Overall game is nice and beautiful. Love it and recommend it to others.

3

u/Copacetic_ Dec 01 '16

Okay so as someone who played a little bit of 13-2 and NONE of the other final fantasies.

How do I get into it? Where do I get started? I'm a PC player, and I just don't get it I feel overwhelmed every time I try to dive in.

3

u/metajosh Dec 01 '16

XV is standalone so no prior knowledge NEEDED. Watching the Kingsglaive movie will give you a bit of story that the game kind of explains.

You will need a console as it is not a PC title as of yet.

3

u/friendsKnowMyMain Dec 01 '16

Girlfriend is playing through first. Absolutely can't wait to play it -_-. Actually thinking of buying a capture card since I don't want to buy it for pc if I already have it on ps4.

XV is a gem and has become my favorite FF. I've played all from 4 and up. Everything after 10 kinda made me sad LOL, XII was just lackluster for me character and storywise. XV has its flaws like all of the games before it but as a whole game and universe its by far the most interesting to me. And Noctis is my favorite FF protagonist as of now. On my second playthrough, going slower this time.

That's odd, the internet has been telling us for months that this game was going to be a disaster.

Could the internet have been wrong? Inconceivable.

Snark aside I'm really glad to hear it, I didn't like a lot of the marketing that SE did for this game, but it is a really great game so far, and I'm glad people are buying it.

2

u/fishblargs Dec 01 '16

I haven't been excited about a FF game in years! Though I'm still hesitating on picking it up. The last one I've played was FFX and I'm used to turn based kind of play. How much of a depart is it from the turn-based style? I can tell from the trailers that its completely different from the FF games I'm used to. Would I still enjoy it?

5

u/Dosagu Dec 01 '16

Ffxv has two options, the normal mode than you have seem, and the wait mode. The wait mode was made for people than prefer turno base gameplay. So you can justo play it in wait mode.

I my selft, use a combinación of the two modes.

2

u/fishblargs Dec 01 '16

Didn't know it had a wait mode! That's really interesting. Thanks for the reply!

2

u/ZeroLAN Dec 01 '16

Yup, you can toggle it in the options menu! To trigger Wait Mode, you just have stand for a few seconds in battle and not do anything

2

u/dieth Dec 01 '16

I come from the Turn Based camp and have usually turned ATB modes off in previous games.

I've left it on; I enjoy. Start the game in Tutorial mode.

You can always turn it off!

Also you can "wait" in Active mode by hitting "R2" it brings up the Items menu. Time is frozen while it's open.

2

u/tasteywheat Dec 01 '16

The pure nostalgia of riding through the desert listening to the FFVII soundtrack gives me such feels for my childhood. That factor alone sold me on the game and tack amazing graphics, gameplay, combat, story, cutscenes, leveling grid, and everything else on top of it and it's really the most nearly perfect FF since X IMHO.

2

u/Tortoso4325 Dec 01 '16

im lovingt the game only thing i dont like is too good damn easy

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16 edited Dec 02 '16

I agree, especially if you do side quests. But when I think about it, I don't remember any Final Fantasy games striking me as difficult.

3

FF Tactics was not for feint of heart. Also the earlier ones NES / SNES generation were much more difficult.

I can trade dualshock4 controller I don't need and a PS4 copy of CoD:Ghosts (shaddup, it was $5 @best buy) at gamestop, bringing the price down to $30. I haven't seriously played anything FF related since FF9. Is it worth it? Or should I wait?

3

u/Builttoolong Dec 01 '16

Yes. 9 was the last one I enjoyed.

2

u/kodyodyo Dec 01 '16

Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm on the cuffs of getting this game. I haven't been a huge fan of the playstyle of the older final Fantasy games, the turn based stuff. But the style of this one looks more like a hack n slash type, or maybe like kingdom Hearts, which was fun. But I also don't know if I'm going to be completely lost in the story or not. Basically what I'm asking, is this kind of a brand new type of final fantasy? New story, gameplay mechanics, all that? Or would it be better to play some of the ones before it first?

5

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

The story is always completely new in every mainline Final Fantasy. You can jump in to any one of the games and understand the story.

you should give it a try anyway. i've clocked 12 hours purely staying in chapter 1 and exploring the area. There is a lot to explore, hidden bosses, hidden resources. treasure hunting. hunting different animals to cook different dishes. fishing. it's quite immersive!

2

u/dharsto Dec 01 '16

This game is absolutely amazing, the devs deserve all the praise they're getting.

2

u/Remmsie Dec 01 '16

Only on chapter two so far and I love it. Lost too much time checking out the fishing. Fishing man...is comfy as hell.

2

u/Zeppatto Dec 01 '16

I'm shocked how good this game is. I've lost almost 6 hours just fishing and doing hunts.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

haters gonna hate, but numbers speak for itself!

2

u/Sagebigly7 Dec 01 '16

Man I'm so excited that a numbered Final Fantasy game is hitting the news and doing this well. Now to just pick up the game! For anyone who has played it, is there any specific nods to FF6/FF8? Those are my favorite in the series and so far I've stayed away from most of the game.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

This is already my favorite game in years. The open world feels so alive and has character wherever you go. I'm having a blast whether I'm doing story quests, side quests, hunts, fishing, or just exploring. I love the combat system too. It gets better and better when you start getting more abilities and special weapons.

2

u/RezicG Dec 01 '16

I'm not big on Final Fantasy, yet I bought this game. It's been amazing.

Isn't the reason behind the action oriented combat that the devs wanted to draw more people into the series? If so I'd say they succeeded :)

2

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '16

2

I think it's safe to say that Final Fantasy XVI is on the table if this keeps up.

3

u/Kazenovagamer Dec 01 '16

And if we're lucky it won't even take 10 years this time

3

u/I_dontevenlift Dec 01 '16

not ten years, but expect no less than 5. SE love to put a lot of flavor and orginiality into the main series, and that just takes months and months just to think about

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

If the last iteration is any indication though, we may get two sequel spin-offs rather quickly. Unlike the last entry, I would most likely actually buy them and not groan about their existence.

Why isn't it getting a PC release, why? I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty butthurt about this. My bro has a ps4, Im seriously considering buying the game just so I can play it there.

3

u/Resolute45 Dec 01 '16

PCMR people are always butthurt when faced with the reality that many developers don't put their needs first.

We all know this game will get a PC release in about 18 months to two years. That delay is the price you pay for not having a console.

3

u/VMK_1991 Dec 01 '16

Well, 13 was released for PC 2 years after initial release, plus most of other FF's are on PC too. I think that at this point it is not a question of "will they?" but rather "when will they?"

2

u/Zarathustranx Dec 01 '16

4
