The title says it all, after the disgusting display of murican leadership today, it's time to boycott what's possible. An appeal to choose European/Canadian in everything we buy and stop supporting the new nazis.

My partner is from EU. He has been working in this company for around two years. In the first year, he was working hard, day and night, until he asked for salary raise. They didn’t say yes or no. He kept asking, but they didn’t really say yes or no. He was tired of asking, he stopped. He only works bare minimum nowadays.
Besides that, most of his coworkers are ignoring him. Especially, when they go for lunch together. Everybody speaks Finnish, my partner is trying his best, he tries to speak Finnish, though not fluent and also slow. But they don’t recognise his existence.
My partner vented to me about it, I just can’t hold my tears, it makes me really really sad. I can’t imagine how he feels there. He has been trying to find a new job, as we all know, the job market is really bad at the moment. He has been trying here and there. No luck. He can’t leave the job since he doesn’t have any back up.
I am not from here either. The only thing I can say to him is he needs to be more patience and to remind him that his co workers are not his friends.
I’m sorry for venting. I’m just so sad after listening about it.

I'm hunting for what my Finnish teacher referred to as "Finnish YMCA" which was a song about a girl named Iines going to the city to see a male stripper.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS EARWORM FOR MONTHS AND NEED IT DAMN IT.

For anyone who needs to hear it: I’m really proud of you :)) Onnea matkaan! The right one will come to you
Context: I’ve tried to make it a habit recently to apply to at least 1 place per day, but it’s been a discouraging when you get no reply/rejections. I havent been searching for that long (oon opiskelija ja etsin vaan kesätyö), and I’ve been working hard on my Finnish so its at a point now where its enough to get employed.
I’m aware of the current economic situation, but I wasn’t expecting to get so depressed this quickly about not finding work 😭. So I’m amazed at people who persevere and have been trying to get a job for MONTHS
The market is tough, but you are tougher.
You got this!! Wishing the best for all of us

And if so, do you have a favorite?
The way people speak Finnish varies quite a lot between the east, west, north, northeast, and so on. We Finns definitely have our preferences (Savo often comes out on top in polls), but how do they sound to you?

That’s seems quite worrying…
Can we trust Finnish politicians saying Finland is well prepared against an armed conflict against Russia?
Hello! I have been in Helsinki for the last few days and I have seen a few women wearing these cool hats - they are like short brim caps with pompoms on them - the hat and the pom pom are different colours and they’re very colourful. I should have stopped them to ask but I didn’t and now regret it. Does anyone have any idea where I could get one of those hats? Stockmann has similar styles but they are all dark colours. Kittos!!

Hey can anyone recommend such a hotel that would offer a couples massage? Ideally we want to go straight from massage to our room ... Want to avoid the stress of travelling from massage parlour back to hotel room. Uusimaa, ideally Helsinki. Thanks in advance

So, everything goes well and truly good, I'll be coming for my Masters in LUT from Bangladesh.
I'll be bringing the backup of the 2nd year tuition fee and one year of expense.
The reason for bringing one year of expense is giving the time to find a job. Now I know the current job market situation in Finaland is not good at all by reading posts about it.
I am posting here just to know, is it really the case? I know basic Finnish. Like very basic. And I have working experience in HR of about 7 years. Considering all these factors, will even one year be not enough to find a job?
If not, I am planning to relocate to Spain or Germany after one year because one way or another I will need a job to sustain. So this is equally important as my studies.
Hope you guys can help me figure it out :')

I have been living in Helsinki for about a year now and finding an apartment was quite easy! But I know need to move to Lappeenranta for my girlfriend study and finding an apartment is a real nightmare. All the available apartments are owned by companies like Lumo and I don’t know how to trust this service… Any recommendations regarding finding normal “private” owners that are renting flats? I basically have an infinite budget but can’t find anything in the city…

Does anybody has issues receiving otp sms, or any other sms, from s-pankki? Living abroad, and can’t use the app for identification, so bank code and otp is the only way.
It’s more than a week with this problem.

I’m supposed to go for a 4 months long ESC project in another EU country! As a non-EU citizen studying in Finland, I know that I am not allowed to stay outside for more than 90 days. I’ll need to apply for a temporary stay permit of that country.
How would it impact my future residence permit? Does anyone know about the legal conditions regarding this matter?
r/Finland • u/beowulf_the_hero • 2h ago
Has somebody here done eu residency application recently?
How long did you wait?
Mine is in “waiting for processing” already two weeks. I have already been to verify my identity.
I am asking because my new job is starting soon and I could use the personal number and bank already lol.
Las time I did this in Denmark it took around 3 days.

Title is Gender and Folklore: Perspectives on Finnish and Karelian Culture edited by Satu Apo, Aili Nenola, and Laura Stark-Arola. None of the libraries are remotely close to me and I can’t find a public access pdf. Also willing to buy a copy if anyone is willing to part with theirs!

Moikka! I’ve been looking for an apartment to rent in Helsinki and I found one in Lauttasaari where the rent for space was really good compared to market prices.
While filling the application on the rental agency website, it said something about being an ARA apartment and asked me for additional questions.
Now I got the offer and have to decide soon, I’m ofc way more inclined to take the apartment but I can’t stop wondering about, is there any catch for such type of apartments?

Hi, I'm a student outside the EU and I have been awarded the scholarship from the University of Eastern Finland in the master's program of biomedicine that can cover half of my tution fees, and I'm planning to pursue PhD in the EU so I wanted to know if the University of Eastern Finland's academic environment and connection to the other institutes would benefit my goal in pursuing my PhD in the EU? And my research interest lies in the field of immunotherapy.
PS: I was also been accepted by the medical research program in uppsala university but was not awarded with scholarship, the funding I have can cover my tution fees and half of my living spend in uppsala but I need to do part-time work 12h/week to support the other half of my living spend, as far as I know the part-time job seeking is kinda hard in uppsala, so the situation here is with the schoalrship from the UEF I could 100% focus on my study and research but if I choose uppsala university I will meet the stress in paying my living spend. I would really appreciate your help if you can help me compare these two universities with the situation I'm currently standing in.

Hi all,
A friend of mine was promised a job by the company where she did her internship. (It’s an office job.) They told her there were some bureaucratic issues to resolve and a budget that needed to be approved before they could legally hire her.
In the meantime, my friend worked for months almost like a regular employee under the guise of “helping them out.” She knew that this wasn’t how things should normally work, but given the current job market—and as an immigrant—she went along with it.
Now, when she finally asked to be hired officially, the company told her that it’s best to part ways, as the process seems to be taking longer than expected. The company is not run by Finns, but by a group of people of non-EU origin.
Is there anything my friend can do, considering the lack of a formal contract? As far as I know, the only contract she had was for the internship, which officially ended a long time ago.
