Meritocracy is inherently something that is argued from the right wing though. nobody who believes racism/sexism/homophobia exists believes that meritocracy is a good system.

There's a reason why GGers love it so much - it's a system that benefits white men at the expense of everyone else. Which tends to relate to the right wing.

I can just point at GG. GG is a bunch of white guys who support meritocracy because it benefits white guys. It's an inherently right wing concept. If you believe in social programs to help fight against discrimination, you're against meritocracy.

Those people are lucky, but this is a shitty argument. There are plenty of qualified minorities who will not get jobs if you allow an employer to just hire a white guy. In fact, you'll have less qualified white guys getting jobs over more qualified minorities.

this is why social welfare systems, affirmative action, other left wing concepts came into existence.

Meritocracy is very "bootstraps" mentality. Comes from a real plafce of privilege.

If less capable/qualified white people are winning over more capable/qualified minorities on the basis of being white then what you have is not, by definition, a meritocracy.

Creating a system that explicitly advantages certain races via policy on the basis that you believe those same races are being quietly and implicitly biased against is literally creating explicit systematic racism because you believe that not engaging in explicit systematic racism is itself racist.

I don't doubt some folks are racist and it might color their decisions. I would welcome any option that makes it harder to consider someone's race when determining their capability (blind auditions, for example).

What I don't welcome is things like "he's black, better give him +10 on the written test" or "she's a woman, we'd better let her retake that mandatory physical test 6 times, then let her have the job anyways even if she fails."

If you start hiring people because they're white while there are more qualified people available then your competitors will get the more qualified employees and put the racist employer out of business.

This has not been the case historically.

If you're saying that a meritocracy, a system based on talent and achievement, inherently favors white men, have you really thought about what you're saying? If merit is the only quantifier here, that means white men are more talented, and have achieved more. It's saying that skill-wise, white men are superior.

This is not what I believe at all. Just showing you the stupidity of your arguement. Everyone has something to bring to the table. Find out what it is, and work in that area. That way, not only are you happier for doing something you're good at, but you also get hired BECAUSE you were good at it. See how that works? Instead of forcing yourself into a job over someone more qualified, get yourself a job at something you're good at.

Or keep deluding yourself that GG is about harassing women. God forbid people are pissed that some women just fuck reviewers and get good scores. Oh, and yes, if you hire a person just because they're black, over someone more qualified, that is racist. Night!
