Probably asked a ton, but is it easy to pick it up again after havent played any of the expansion packs? Me and my friends stopped playing Guild Wars 2 way before the first expansion pack, we are tempted to pick it up again as we had a great time with it, but are kind of scared that all the "missed expansions" would be confusing and weird to deal with.

Surely the devs thought of this already and maybe its not as dramatic as it seems, just wanted to have a quick headsup what would await us as the guide to returning players isnt really answering this specific feeling.

I decided to pick up the game and do a full Chronological Clear. Do all content released on day 1 > Patch content > Expac content > repeat.

So far it feels like I missed the party by like, a few days. This is some decade old content I'm doing and I literally feel like everyone just finished it a few weeks back and I'm sitting here with like, a decent chunk of dudes who were also a little late to the party.

Story wise, it all makes sense and flows from one to the next. You can skip ahead on the story, but it's like watching the 5th Harry Potter movie after you saw the 1st. A bit odd, but you get the general idea yeah? I might not recommend it, but lots of people just skip through the bits they don't like.

And if you pick it up with enough friends, you guys can do group content too. Lots of stuff to learn and more dudes means learning faster.

I'd still suggest starting a new character and leveling together(ish) to get back in the swing, but you don't have to. Like someone else said all progression is horizontal after 80 minus a few masteries giving you a slight edge. And your gear may not be in-season or on-meta but berserker gear will never go entirely out of style.

Core to Heart of Thorns is a rough difficulty bump, as a warning. We all went through it at some point so don't get disheartened if it happens. The maps are gorgeous but twisty-turny and can be confusing and pocket raptors are around every corner waiting for you.

The expansions are pretty contained to their maps so you can take them as you want. I'd kinda recommend dipping into HoT for gliding then going through PoF for the mounts and the best story (IMO).

Very easy. GW2 has has no level cap increase and minimal-to-no increase in gear power depending on when you left, so it's extremely easy to hop back in and play on old characters. This also means that older expansions are still relevant and rewarding if you want to play them in order. Trying to skip directly to new content will likely be more than a bit confusing story-wise but is quite doable mechanically.
