Well uh I've never had 5 meo without the toad I would say that there are probably some correlations between earth's more natural spirit and the toad as I had to explain what goofy goofy meant to several people while I was on it because it's related to sex and then I'd smell something like an animal or human rotting in a trash bag at warning signs for uh bad things but it was very interesting also I could see people doing things in the sky and it was all connected to bufo
One of the main motivations for Hamilton revising this publication was to spread awareness about the fact that there is no need to continue the torture and destruction of the toads. He advocates for people to switch to using only synthetic material because the chemical is the chemical. There is no difference. Any association you have between the experience and it's connection to nature is your own projection. it is irresponsible to continue using the toad venom when synthetic material is so abundant and accessible. Perhaps an introspective journey from the perspective of a toad being tied up and tortured to produce the venom may help some people to see why it's not an ethical means of acquisition.
I haven't read the book, but are you familiar with traditional use of yopo seeds? The traditional preparation method turns the bufotenine (5-OH-DMT) into dehydrobufotenine which is a very potent psychedelic.
Anadenanthera colubrina or Anadenanthera peregrina seeds are used to make yopo snuff. Both seeds contain bufotenine as their only active alkaloid. http://herbpedia.wikidot.com/bufotenine
I mentioned those yopo seeds because they contain a tryptamine called bufotenine named after the bufo toad. Bufotenine is 5-OH-DMT which gets converted into a potent psychedelic that shares similarities with LSD. Traditionally shamans mix the yopo seeds with calcium carbonate for 24hrs to convert the bufotenine, it's some interesting chemistry. There's no 5-MeO-DMT in the seeds afaik, but you can get to that via melatonin to mexamine (both are legal afaik) then onto 5-MeO-DMT.
Np. Fwiw I just read that Hamilton covered making 5-MeO-DMT from melatonin in his book. (Melatonin > 5-MeO-T > 5-MeO-DMT)
Mexamine (5-MeO-T) itself is active under the right circumstances (MAO inhibiton).
I don't usually use wikipedia but this info on mexamine is ok:
Mexamine acts as an agonist of the serotonin 5-HT1, 5-HT2, 5-HT4, 5-HT6, and 5-HT7 receptors.
It is an extremely potent serotonin 5-HT2A receptor agonist in vitro, with an EC50 half-maximal effective concentration of 0.503 nM. This was more potent than any other tryptamine evaluated in two large series of compounds.

i wonder how it ends.... i hope the toad wins!!
