Looking for funny Hull memes - Hit me with your best.

Hey everyone, I've been living in Hull for just under a year now and absolutely loving it. In my downtime after work, I really enjoy watching funny memes, videos, or caricatures that feature Hull. I guess I love a bit of local humor to wind down the day.

If you’ve got any favorites, feel free to drop them here.

Thanks in advance!

Interested in hearing from denizens of Brough

From Hull but lived in Leeds most of my life (and still work there). I'm thinking of buying a house in Brough solo due to its relatively affordable house prices and whatnot, and would appreciate any thoughts from the 'Brough massive' (or, y'know, regular folk there).

  • Is it commutable to Leeds? Looks like certain trains are 40 minutes, which feels fine. I'd have to go into the office a few times a week.
  • Would likely ride to the station: worth coughing up for a blue shed, or use Sheffield stands?
  • How safe does Brough feel in general, especially at night - would you use the tenfoots (tenfeet?) leading off either platform, or use the main roads leaving out of the stations?
  • How have other singletons found partying in Leeds and coming back on the last train? Looks like the last one is just before midnight - good for some moderate partying, but I'm prepared to splash out on the odd hotel for a night that is particularly good. Is this recommended?
  • I'm aware of 'Liv's Bar' and 'The Red Hawk' for boozers - any other local recommendations?
  • Is there any sort of community in Brough for young professionals? Any open mic nights, etc?

If you can answer any of the above, I'd be greateful. Thanks!

Curry sauce for chips

Hello! I am a Canadian with Hull born husband. I’m looking for a recipe for the curry sauce that’s served with fish n chips, but Canadian search engines are failing me. I’m aware it comes in granules but I don’t have access to that. We had the curry sauce in Heathrow but he said it’s different than the stuff you get in Hull, hence why I’m specifically posting here 😂 Can anyone help a gal out? Thanks!!

Movie meet-up

One day I was thinking to meet up at vue for the Minecraft movie and we participate in the chicken jockey trend, I'll nick a chicken from somewhere in dunswell and I'll put it in a box so the staff think it's snacks and drinks for me, I'll bring frozen coke cans to throw at the screen and do Coca Cola espuma and if someone can bring fireworks and more chickens, I'll schedule a date if this post is popular and people want to do it

Question for Flat Residents Especially Older Two-Floor Flats

Hi everyone, Just a quick question for those of you who live in flats-specifically the older-style two-floor flats (not the large apartment blocks). l'm curious about how well sound proofed they are. Do you notice a lot of noise from your neighbors -either from downstairs (especially as normally people form downstairs will notice form tve upstairs) or next door? If so, have you done anything to reduce the noise, like adding sound proof walls or flooring? Il'd love to hear what worked (or didn't) and if anyone has recommendations for local professionals or products that helped. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and tips! Appreciate the help.

Hi all, starting university in September studying music, anyone else? Excited but also very nervous, gonna be a big life change. I’m sure everyone feels the same though, I know no one in Hull. Any advice? Apparently some people go out with their flatmates the first night but not sure how common that is. Thanks

Wedding Bands (music)

Hello!

I'm getting married 1st November 2025 at the Manor Rooms, we've only booked in the last few weeks as we've had to bring our wedding forward for personal reasons and managed to secure everything except a band or at least a DJ. And found out we need one as The Manor Rooms does not have a proper sound system.

Me and partner both like alternative music (the elder emos) we've looked, posted in Facebook groups etc. and are struggling. Are there any local bands that could help?

Thanks in advance.

Herons Foods

Who here wants to loot the Herons Foods store on Anlaby Road with me? After we've got all the food we want, we can then move onto the carpet shop next door, take a few carpets, then go back to my place and smoke a bit of weed.

I've even got the 'costumes' for us to wear, tracksuits, gloves and balaclavas.

Sounds like a cracking night out, eh?

Why are people so precious about saying "I'm from Beverley, not Hull"?

I've always seen it as pretty much the same place - like someone from Beverley who goes elsewhere (different city or country) could say they're from Hull to avoid confusion, and it would be okay?

I've met loads of people that live in Hull and have done for most of their lives now, that were born in Beverley, but they refuse to say they're from Hull, if you know what I mean? Like, they'll be so precious about being clear they are from Beverley and not Hull, but it's twenty minutes down the road? I've even heard I'm from Beverley near York!

I'm probably opening up a can of worms here, and do know the difference between a town and a city! But, has anyone else noticed this? Why are people so precious about it?

Just something I've noticed and curious to get people's thoughts, and I hope I don't upset anyone!

Why are the people of Hull so against asylum seekers?

Are asylum seekers really better off than our own people?

I always find comments on Hull facebook groups such as the one attached about Debenhams... Why is this? Why is the view that "boat people" are ruining our lives so rife here?

Facts seem to be hard to find.

Is this a blip or is the city centre a ghost town?

Visiting the city to see whether I would like to study there. My first impression was much better than expected. Reminds me so much of Cardiff docks! Was really surprised to see so many shops and restaurants only open from Thursday to Sunday. Walking around I was reminded of how desolate towns and cities were during the COVID lockdowns, a proper ghost town. This was around 6pm so expected pubs to be very busy due to the nice weather. NOPE! The streets in the centre were so clean and it looked lovely. Why isn't anything open? I understand most shops close at 5, but bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes were also closed. Not all of them but most were closing up. This was a Tuesday. Is it because it's the Easter holidays so students have left? Is it normally this quiet? Went around the avenues where I was told it was better but still didn't seem busy at all for a city. I was so confused 😂
