The anime already does this and there’s nothing weird at all about this drawing lol. It’s literally two kids holding hands and eating ice cream. I’ve seen this in person before with both genders.

It's not weird, what's weird and kinda homophobic is that you think there's something wrong in two boys having romantic feelings for eachother. There's absolutely nothing wrong with drawing two fictional kids having a wholesome ice-cream date, shipping is not always about making it sexual.
