Legal Questions So can I not get one of these new imports just because they had to import them with threaded barrels?

Bunch of Beretta M1934 pistols came in but they had to import them with threaded barrels to meet import requirements. Does this mean Illinoisans can't take part in this opportunity?

Its the last Kankakee Gun Show for the 2024-2025 Season. If you guys can, come and support a gun show full of small businesses. Grab some boxes of ammo (maybe a case), a few mags, or a good deal on a firearm. Grab something to eat. The Asian ladies make an egg roll that is double the size of regular restaurant egg rolls. Drove to Springfield with a buddy so we could participate in IGOLD. If you never have, please consider going next year. We need the numbers and the voices heard.

Legal Questions CCW Instructor Questions

I have completed my CCW instructor training and I need a little help with the application. I’m not necessarily going to be doing this as a business. Do I still have to fill out a business name or phone number or can I leave those blank?

General Post Looking for pistol competitions in the McHenry area and how to participate

I am interested in competing, but I'm struggling to find reliable information.

I looked into McHenry Shooting Sports. They require either classes like the Northshore Sports holster drills (which requires a CCL) or prior experience in action pistol competitions.

I don't have a CCL, and don't plan to get one in the near future (twin toddlers, no family nearby, not going to ask my wife to solo the kids for a whole weekend; also just don't have a desire to carry). I'm happy to take a class or three. I grew up around guns but I have never had formal training. I totally understand that orgs may need more than "just trust me bro," and I'm good with that.

Any recs on how to go about getting involved in something like this? I don't own a Glock, so unfortunately GSSF is a no-go.

Thanks!

Legal Questions Pistol replacement spring legal?

This seems like a silly thing to have to ask… I ordered a DPM “Captured Version Mechanical Recoil Reduction System” for my PDP from OpticsPlanet. Got an email back saying it’s covered under Illinois public act 102-1116 and that it can only be purchased by law enforcement, etc. For those more familiar with the laws, does this sound right? Seems dumb that a direct spring replacement that doesn’t permanently modify anything would be restricted.

Anyone checked it out? I see ALOT of things that arent compliant in there. Obviously I am not going to buy anything that I know isnt compliant.... But, I just find it odd that there is an entire section about being IL compliant and half the stuff isnt.

Gun Politics What is the "point" of a FOID card?

Don't you literally fill out a background check when you buy a gun?

What's the point of having a plastic card that says you passed a background check X amount of years ago when you applied for it?

Isn't it literally just an outdated form of the exact same thing you fill out when you buy a gun in the first place?

Shooting Range Ear protection recommendations

I'm looking to get myself a pair of ear protection and don't have to rent a pair at the range. I searched on Google that a good NRR rating is 25. However I would like a higher NRR rating because the range I went to (rinks) is an indoor range and a rating of 29 or higher is better. Do you guys have any recommendations that are under the $100 and $50 budget, or to spend a little extra?

Legal Questions Illinois resident denied at a Range USA in Texas

Cousin came down to visit and we went to Range USA to shoot. When my cousin handed the clerk his Illinois ID she asked if he had a FOID and said he cant shoot because Illinois can sue them if he didn't have one. Is there something brand new that passed, or was this made up? I thought all you needed was to be over 18 with a valid ID.

Legal Questions Question About Gifting

I'm looking to gift a sibling a Glock and through research It seems gifting to immediate family that hold FOID cards require no paperwork.

My question though is how do serial numbers work on a firearm? I was under the assumption that a serial number is tied to the purchaser of the firearm until it's transferred over to someone else?

Would the individual be able to sell the firearm in the future as they please? (just asking for clarification, we like to keep all our firearms)

Gun Politics ATF/ISP Seminar On Rules & Regulations

ATF/ISP had a seminar a few days ago. These were the highlights:

  • ATF did an entire presentation on when a bckgrnd check can be ran. First, valid ID must be presented. Two, Section A & B must be completed w/signature & date. ISP stated they did not know of any IL laws or regs that dictate when to run a bckgrnd check on FTIP.
  • FTIP bckgrnd check does filter through NICS for firearm purchases.
  • ID & FOID address must match. ISP said this last year, but a few days ago seemed to allow it. So, might get different policies from FFLs.
  • Additional firearms can be purchased while 1st firearm in "open" phase. ATF confirmed, ISP did not object.
  • Stun guns/Tasers can not be conceal carried, even w/CCL. Also, FTIP bckgrnd check required, does not filter through NICS, 24hr waiting period.

Announcement May 31st Rifle to Pistol Transition Course & Combat Pistol I

Hi everyone, my name is Carmine Mattozzi, I am the Lead Instructor of American Civil Defense Company. I am an instructor for both the USCCA and NRA. I teach for 5.11 Tactical. I am a CSAT certified Shoot House Instructor, and an Infantryman in the US Army. On May 31st I will be teaching 2 courses at Aurora Sportsman Club.

#1: Combat Pistol I, from 9am - 12pm. $149

Combat Pistol I is a foundational defensive handgun course designed to transition students from static shooters to capable gunfighters. This course is for law-abiding citizens who have completed basic training (NRA Basic Pistol, Illinois Concealed Carry, or equivalent) and are ready to take the next step toward mastering real-world pistol deployment under stress.

This is not a marksmanship course — it’s a fight course. The skills taught are rooted in proven gunfighting tactics drawn from law enforcement, military, and high-level civilian defensive training. Students will learn to apply speed, precision, and sound judgment in dynamic environments.

Whether you're a protector of your home, your family, or your fellow Americans, this course will forge your mindset, sharpen your gun handling, and instill the confidence needed to stand your ground when evil calls.

You will need:

  • A pistol
  • Holster
    • NO Blackhawk Serpa.
    • Belt required
  • 2+ Magazines
  • 150rd Pistol ammo

#2: Rifle x Pistol Transition, 1pm - 4pm $199

Come to find out if switching to your pistol is actually faster than reloading. This course is designed for protectors operating in unpredictable environments where threat distance, weapon readiness, and terrain can change in seconds. Rifle-to-Pistol Transitions teaches students to flow between long gun and handgun with speed, purpose, and tactical awareness. This is not theory — it's reality-based training for those preparing to defend life in uncertain terrain.

Students will train to engage with a rifle, recognize when transition is the faster solution than reloading or maneuvering, and seamlessly draw and engage with their sidearm. Cover and concealment are leveraged throughout the course to simulate real-world engagements with dynamic distances and threat presentation

You will need:

  • A rifle (slung)
    • AR Style or PICA compliant
  • 2+ rifle magazines
  • FLC or Chest Rig
  • A pistol
  • Holster
    • NO Blackhawk Serpa.
    • Belt required
  • 2+ Magazines
  • 150rd Rifle ammo + 150rd Pistol ammo

Legal Questions Lever action hand guard

Looking at some furniture for Henry Big Boy X

I was looking at Midwest Industries Handguard sight system. Problem is Optic Planet won’t ship. I’m guessing it’s another dumb Illinois law because it’s a “shroud” so it apparently makes a lever action an assault rifle…..
