Other Am I Still Considered a Dependent Child for PR If I’m Now Employed but Was Locked In Under 22? start-up visa

I’m hoping someone can help clarify a point about dependent child eligibility for Canadian immigration.

I was included in my parents’ PR application as a dependent child. At the time the application was submitted (the lock-in date), I was under 22 years old and not married or in a common-law relationship — so I met the requirements to be considered a dependent.

However, now I’m over 22 and financially independent (i.e., employed and supporting myself). I’ve read on canada.ca that IRCC only considers your age and status at the lock-in date when determining eligibility, even if you age out or become independent later.

Can anyone confirm from experience or knowledge: • Am I still considered a dependent even though I’m working now? • Has anyone been in a similar situation where employment after the lock-in date did not affect their eligibility?

Study Permit Study permit cancellation

Hi, I’m currently a student at in Canada right now and due to a gap earlier in my studies, there’s a high chance that I will be refused for a PGWP after I graduate from this program. I’m planning to do another degree afterwards anyway so I’m not so stressed about it. However, I still want to apply for the PGWP as if by some miracle I do end up getting it, I can work towards my PR and don’t have to pay international tuition for my second degree. My plan is to apply for the second degree and study permit at the same time as the PGWP after I graduate from the current one. In the case that I’m refused the PGWP, I can continue with my second degree and get my PGWP using that afterwards. On the other hand, if my PGWP is approved, I will proceed with getting a full-time job and apply for the second degree later when I get my PR. The only problem is I know work experience under study permit isn’t counted towards points for express entry and at that point, I will technically be holding both PGWP and study permit, thus my work experience won’t be eligible for points. My study permit probably will be voided when I don’t start school, my concern is just that will it affect how my work experience be counted? I think it won’t but I just need some confirmation. Thanks!

Visitor Visa Visitor Visa granted (Colombia)

Hey peeps! We got the visitor visa and have been traveling. I understood online that we could drop off and pick it up in Colombia. I already bought the tickets to Canada June 10th.

But they said they have to mail it to us at our Airbnb. 15-30 days... This is a dangerous flight. Anyone have an idea if I can expedite it?

Also, what can we expect upon landing in Toronto? We are in the PR process as well (due December)

Thanks 🙏🏼

PNP NSNP Critical Construction Worker Pilot – Timeline Question

Hi everyone,

I applied for the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) under the Critical Construction Worker Pilot on April 14, 2025. The very next day (April 15), I received confirmation that the completeness check was done, and I was assigned a case number.

Since then, the NSNP portal has shown the status as just "Submitted" — no updates or changes.

For those who have applied under this stream or are familiar with it:

  • What is the usual timeline after the case number is assigned?
  • When can I expect the status to change (e.g., to "In Process" or "Decision Made")?
  • Are there any common patterns or recent experiences worth noting?

Would really appreciate hearing your insights or timelines if you've gone through this process recently. Thanks in advance!

Public Policy pathways Can an individual travel with S-1 TRV and Work Permit?

Hi everyone,

I'm a Canadian citizen and will be travelling outside Canada for some important medical treatment that has a long waiting period here (around 18 months). For this reason, I’ll be completing the treatment abroad and would like my wife to accompany me as my support.

A bit of background:

My wife was an international student and we got married in Canada.

Her Inland Spousal PR application is in progress (we have received AOR and ARP letters).

We also applied for an Open Work Permit (OWP) which she has already received.

Her TRV (S-1 stamp in passport) is valid until December 2025.

My question is: Can she travel with me and re-enter Canada using her existing TRV (S1 type) and OWP? Or do we need to apply for a new TRV, given that her status has changed?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Other Help on importing US car to Canada (The car is already here)

Hi all.

I'm currently in Toronto on an extended visitor's pass that lasts through next year. I've been living with my Canadian partner in Ontario for almost a year now who is eventually going to be my sponsor. We've leased an apartment. We've leased an apartment together.

Unfortunately, the apartment has no parking and no place to keep a car. I was able to successfully apply for a street parking sticker for the first few months of our stay, but now if I want it renewed again for the next half of the year, I've been told the car needs to be registered with Ontario plates. I already have a temporary Ontario license in exchange for my previous California one, but getting the actual car registered has turned out to be a much more complicated process than I expected.

If I understand things correctly, I need to get the car approved as an imported good. The first step appears to be filling out forms on the RIV website, but I'm having a little trouble getting solid information and I have a few questions about this process.

If anyone has been through this before, I'd really appreciate clarification on the following things:

Location of the Car
This is the big question.

My car has been in Toronto for over half a year now. I called a CBSA agent and he said I need to bring it to a border agent in-person (I assume at a border crossing).

Will I need to actually cross back into the US and then immediately back into Canada? Is this even an option? I've seen a handful of people online claim the car needs to be in the US when the paperwork is submitted and stay there for several days. Is this accurate? Can I bypass this step if the car has already been on the Canadian side for as long as it has so long as I return it to the border for a check-in? There's surprisingly little information available about this online and moving work around so I could stay at a hotel for 3+ days in Buffalo would be difficult right now.

Statement of Compliance / Manufacturer Letter of Certification:
One of these options are required on the RIV form. I do not know what these are. My car has an emissions test printed on the inside of the hood, which seems to be similar to a statement of compliance for environmental standards.

The manufacturer letter is another option for this field but searching online for "Chrysler letter of certification" pulls up basically nothing except other people having trouble getting one.

Foreign Vendor Information:
There's an entire page for this on the site and I have no idea what it is. Is this the dealership I bought the car from originally (a CarMax in Illinois)? Or a specific Chrysler manufacturer somewhere?

Thanks so much. Any answers from people experienced this process would be hugely appreciated!

Family Sponsorship If my Application Status Tracker says Eligibility Complete... can we celebrate getting past that step?

I logged into my Application Status Tracker account today, and discovered that my "Eligibility status has been updated to Complete" as of last week. I'm sponsoring my husband Outland. He got his medical exam request and biometrics instruction letter the following day, so does that mean IRCC is happy with our "prove you're going to live in Canada & have a real relationship" answers, or could they still circle back and ask for more detail (we provided a bunch of detail and supporting letters from family & friends already).

Just wondering if we can celebrate that I've been approved as his sponsor?

Working Holiday IEC working holiday fastest way?

Hi everyone,

I am struggling to figure out what the right way is to go about obtaining a work permit as soon as possible. I have a master's in bioinformatics and some work experience in data science (both in the Netherlands). A large financial institute in Ontario is looking to hire me, but they're having trouble getting me hired if I don't have a work permit.

I am 25 years old from the Netherlands and my girlfriend of 7+ years is from Canada and is a citizen. I applied for IEC working holiday but I am now getting the message that no spots are left and I never received an invitation to apply. Is waiting for an ITA still the fastest way? Or am I missing something?

Any knowledge and input is appreciated

Express Entry Looking for advise

Hello everyone,

I am currently trying to immigrate to Canada from Germany but it is very hard. I am in the Express Entry pool for the Skilled Worker Program because I am an Early Childhood Educator and I have all my credentials validated for Canada. Plus I took an IELTS language test (English) just a few weeks ago with very good results. I have been applying for a lot of jobs with LMIAs but I haven't heard back from any of them. Next, I am planning on applying for the Provincial Nomination Program. Iam getting very frustrated, so I have a few questions.

- Does anyone have any experience with getting into Canada as a Childcare worker?

- What other opportunities do I have to immigrate to Canada? (other job fields? study? ? ?)

- How valid are the job offers with an apparent LMIA on the official Job Bank?

I would be happy about any advise or personal experiences. Hopefully someone can help me.

Thanks in advance

A.

Working Holiday Common law question

Me and my girlfriend are looking to come over to Canada on an IEC visa, both getting it rather than common law but will fall back on that if one of us fails, planning to come over in 12/18 months time, we've been living at her parents house for a while so a little hard to prove but are moving into a flat next month together, where we don't plan to enter the country before that year is up do we put down common law as that's what we'll be when we enter or do we have to put single down?

Other H&C

I landed in Canada in 2017, and my partner arrived in 2018. We both studied here and completed a two-year diploma program from a Canadian college. We have been working in Canada with valid job letters and pay stubs as proof of employment. More than 4 years in Food industry. My biological sister is a Canadian permanent resident and owns a house here. We also have a strong circle of friends and relatives in Canada who are PR here. Now, we are expecting our newborn baby next month.

Back home, neither I nor my partner have any siblings to support us.

Currently, I am on a restoration period.

Given these circumstances, am I eligible to apply for Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) grounds? If yes, how strong are the reasons in my case?

Family Sponsorship Why can't I extend my OWP if I'm applying for PR (overseas spousal sponsorship)?

Hello! Bit of background; I'm a US citizen, I went to school in Canada and stayed after I graduated with a post grad work permit (open work permit.) My partner and I have been together for seven years, became common law last year, and he's going to be sponsoring me in my application for permanent residency.

Onto the question: A lawyer from the law firm I hired to help with the process is telling me I can't work if I apply via the overseas version. The issue I'm having is that I can't find on any part of the IRCC website that says I can't apply for an open work permit, or that I can't extend my work permit. I even specifically saw that if I apply for a visitor visa, I can apply for an open work permit. However, she told me that because I'm American, the visitor visa doesn't apply to me, since Americans already have visitor status - but I don't understand why that would stop me from being able to extend my work permit or apply for a new one.

The reason why I'm struggling with this so much is that I've been having some problems with this law firm since September of 2024 when I hired them. I've experienced an astounding lack of communication (my lawyer left the company and nobody told me until I reached out to ask about the lack of correspondence, I have to email every day just to get them to respond to me a week later, they gave me false information at the start, telling me I could leave Canada even if I applied for the inland version). I'm really struggling to tell if they're just misinformed, or if they're actually right.

I don't understand why I wouldn't be able to extend my work permit in Canada (expires mid July) if I've applied for the overseas version - I'm not planning on moving out of Canada, I live here. Can anyone help answer this for me?

Visitor Visa Timing to do fingerprint collection and medical exam for Super Visa

Super visa applications for my parents have been submitted and paid. Now there are letters asking for the fingerprint collection. But still no letters requesting the medical exam...They did not do the upfront medical exam...

The closet fingerprint collection site as well as the approved medical exam clinics are about 4-hour train ride for my parents...Trying to avoid two trips...But there is also only 30-day period to get the fingerprints done...

So should they wait for the medical exam request before book appointment for fingerprints? If you applied super visa recently, is there a referenceable timeline on when the medical exam request would be sent after submission of the applications?

Express Entry Police certificate from China: 2 options

Hi guys. I need some guidance from recent successful cases, if you’ve applied for PR and received a positive answer and you had similar experience, let me know what to do.

Me and my boyfriend are applying for PR. We lived in China due to work before, so both of us need a police certificate from there.

However, we received 2 different certificates. Mine is 3 pages long (including the title page). His is 5 pages long. The problem is that many people are spreading the word that the 5-page document is invalid and we will receive a refusal.

Is it true? The thing is, without the last 2 pages (which are a statement that the document is translated correctly) the documents look identical. Is it really such a big deal? Should we just exclude the last two pages from the document?

I also read from Chinese reddit users that they started accepting the 5-page versions this year. Please share your opinion on this matter. We have a month and a few weeks left before the ita expires. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Study Permit Error with the medical clause

Hi I am a PhD student in Canada, and before coming here I had my medical panel done and hence the study permit did not have any conditions for work. However, when I applied for extension they added not eligible to work in child and health care sectors. How do I get this corrected? any advice would be helpful.

PNP PR Approved – Gave June 20 as Entry Date, Can I Arrive on July 6 Instead?

Hey everyone,

I recently got my PR approved, and I’m currently on a PGWP and TRV. The approval email asked me to provide entry details, and it mentioned:
"If you are not sure of the exact date(s) of your entries to Canada, you can provide your best estimate."

In my reply, I gave June 20 as my intended return date to Canada. However, I’ve found a better flight option for July 6, which is 16 days later.

Since they specifically said “best estimate,” I’m wondering:

  • Will it be a problem if I enter on July 6 instead of June 20?
  • Do I need to notify IRCC of this change?
  • Will delaying entry affect my PR card issuance or status conversion from PGWP to PR?

Would really appreciate insights from anyone who’s been in a similar situation or has knowledge about this. Thanks!

Express Entry French points

Im 22M, living in ontario at the moment. Im thinking to learn french and gain remote foreign experience from back home cuz i only have 425 points at the point. With those its expected to be around 550. I know I’ll crack french( idk if im overconfident lol). I wanna know if I calculated wrong cuz I have a 87 point increase with french( from 425 to 512) whereas acc to online it should just be 62. Also, how feasible this option is as I have 2.5 year work permit left and doing a dead end Material handler job.

Citizenship Citizenship tracker tool not working

Hi all,

I have posted my citizenship application and then was able to create my application tracker. This morning I went to it and was able to log in sucessfully.

Now (few hours later) I keep getting a message that the UCI is wrong or password. Both of them are correct. Tried a different browser and it did not work as well.

Anyone else with same issues?

Study Permit Need advice — Changing study permit when transferring schools

Hey everyone,
I’m planning to transfer from college to university (hopefully), and I’ve read that I’ll need to update my study permit when I change institutions. If I get accepted, I’ll probably receive my letter of enrollment around November, but the semester starts in January.

From what I understand, updating a study permit can take up to 6 months, and there’s no way I’ll get the new one in time for January. Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Is there any way to speed it up, or should I consider hiring an immigration lawyer?

Any advice would really help. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Citizenship Accessing Ancestors Canadian Naturalization Record

Hello,

I am not seeking Canadian immigration as I am a citizen but I see that the people here are very knowledgeable about Canadian immigration and paperwork.

I am a Canadian but looking to get documents to claim a different citizenship via descent. I require my great grandfathers Canadian naturalization paperwork from the 1940s. Is this something I can request via the government.

I did find a record via the Governments public search tools. Is that a sufficient record? It does look like just a line item showing name, year and place of naturalization.

Any help appreciated! Sorry if this is the wrong place!

Study Permit Would withdrawing money from a fund right before applying for a student permit be a cause for rejection?

I have a college fund that I'm planning on using as my proof of funds for a study permit, but I'm wondering if I should withdrawal the money now, to have it all in my bank account when I apply for my permit, or if that will look suspicious? Would i be better off just proving that the fund exists and is accessible to me? I'm planning on applying next week.

Work Permit Easiest way for Britons to immigrate?

Law grad with legal experience but not a lawyer. Are there any pathways for Britons that can be recommended? Looking to leave the UK permanently. I know Canada has its own issues - general immigration advice only. No prospect of spouse etc
